Who else appreciates the poetic irony of 611 running over C&O tracks?
Especially when C&O 611 (614) ran on those exact tracks back when it was used in passenger service.
I’m glad to see her out on a mainline and I hope these opportunities continue. While I love the Strasburg Railroad, running the 611 there was a bit like a Kentucky Derby winner pulling a hay wagon.
Nice coverage! So nice to see 611 stretch its wheels for once
This is a whistle I can get down with
That is one great sounding whistle, much better than on some locomotives.
Awesome video! So glad to see 611 on the mainline again after sooo long.
Technically it's been 6 years since 611 last ran a train on the mainline trackage, but still something I feel glad to see back. Also, i really hope they can continue for the foreseeable future as I myself want to try and attend one.
You know how 611 visited strasburg? How likely is it that another big steam engine will eventually do a similar thing? For example if 4449 or 765 went to some place like the western Maryland or some smaller place like strasburg
@@lucasquintanilla1673 That's very unlikely to ever happen. 765 has found a place to run while 4449 doesn't/would not likely be able to go that far just to ran on a 4.5 mile tourist line when there are others in the northwest
@@atsfevan0242 what about the new Pennsylvania T1 being built? Not only did the people making it say that it could go anywhere that 611 or 765 could go but also there been active suggestions for places like the western Maryland and Steamtown national historic site I think that it could run. I know for certain that they mentioned the steam railroading Institute in Indiana or Ohio gave them an offer. something interesting though is that since it can go anywhere 611 could does that mean we might see it at Strasburg at some point?
@@lucasquintanilla1673 Those are completely different/other topics.
Last shot felt like a scene straight out of the 1990s
To add on to that, I believe it’s running with its 90’s whistle
@@usstiger_cd4165 I thought I had read that somewhere.... guess it is true! It has that sort of squeak that I remember from older videos
It’s one of my favorites that she has had.
I love the new whistle
Sounds like her 1990's whistle
@@trainnut2012 if that’s true then HIGHBALL full speed ahead
@@trainnut2012 That's because it is her 1990's whistle
@@trainnut2012Definitely not her 80-90's whistle (I wish), but it's the closest match that she's worn since being rebuilt back in 2015. Two rumors are going around as to the current whistle's origin. One of them is that its from sister 609, the other is that it's a non-N&W Heritage hancock 3 chime purchased for use on the 611 by one of the crew members. The whistle used in 611's first excursion career is still in the possession of Preston Claytor after he left the Fire Up 611 campaign 9 years ago.
Amazing capture
Thanks for sharing!
My son is special needs and he loves trains 🚆🚇🚃🚋🚞🚝🚊🚉🚄🚅🛤🚈 especially steam locomotives like 611 and he is overjoyed to see 611 pulling longer excursion trains like she used to and hopes she will more often. He also hopes the 2 Canadian 4-6-2 Pacific's 1238 & 1286 will return to Virginia and doublehead passenger trains like they did in the early 1990s.
Listen to the most powerful steam locomotive she is very awesome to see her on the rails again
Very happy to see the queen of steam back where she belongs I’m wondering if that observation car was the same one used in the original Norfolk Southern steam program which ran behind Norfolk and western 611 countless times?
great video thanks for shareing it.
Lovely ❤
Duuuude! Helluva video man!
I knew mainline steam will make a great comeback!
N&W #611 getting tested before fall excursions. She sure is a beauty.
Your title said “test train”….I guess a full 9-car excursion train with dome and observation cars is a bit fancier than I expected! 😯 Beautiful video! (new subscriber, Charlottesville, VA)
I still remember my first and last attempt to ride behind her, in 1983, having crossed the Atlantic Ocean to do this, and when we arrived at Newport News we learned she was not ready for service on this trip. They did offer us our tickets for free, and we rode behind GP-38's.
What a shame! That’s terrible.
Great catches and nice video
Alway here for another post
Nice!
611's First Mainline Run
Hope to see you release more footage of the test run if you were able to get more.
I have no more footage of this run, but I will post more of the future excursions. Thanks for watching!
@@SmithConductoryeah no problem.
What's the heritage of the "Augusta" railcar?
I wish I knew Myself!
Don't forget to drive through Goshen Pass both going to and leaving Goshen. Take 39. This is well worth seeing.
I’ve been thru countless times. Love it out there
It was at strausburg railroad for abit
Right, but this on an Active Mainline with Class I ops
CSX has trackage rights over Buckingham
She's now back on mainline excursions. She sure is a beauty.
@@csxguy3002Correct
Let's hope they can go full throttle
Nope, BB timetables say max speed on excursions is 25-30 mph if I am correct
@@HuntOfficial1776 🙂😶 🟡
@@HuntOfficial1776I’m rusty on North Mountain Sub Track Speeds but we’ve seen em go at least 40 so far.
Loves his ground shots…he does. Wheels are all there
Isn’t that her 1991-94 whistle
I am 90% sure it is
@@SmithConductorDifferent one but it is a J whistle so it sounds similar
@@PrincessJennaTheHusky2149 Nope. The original is still with one of the Claytors.
@@NickTheCrossdresser2149It’s not, though it is a whistle from a long lost J.
No
