    Thanks very much Jors. Most interesting. What a beautiful sight to see so much water in the dam.

    Dankie Jors. Baie interessant die model. Is daar ander damme wat ook so iets het?

    Scale models are to quantify the spillway and check that design. That can't be done purely on paper, like most of the rest of the design. Brilliant, haven't seen a model on site before; usually at one of the university engineering departments.

    Hi Jors
    Thanks for that. What a wonderful sight. You are so fortunate to be able to spend time with your dad.
    Travel safely.

    Praise Jesus, i have been praying specifically for the area of Eastern Cape to receive rain over the last year roughly.... I'm from p.e but have lived in England for almost 20 years but I'm going home when the kids are abit more grown up!....Praise Jesus....great news for all surrounding areas✝️

    Brilliant. Had no idea that was a scale model of the dam. Went down there last year and looked at this structure... great, peaceful little video. Thanks Jors

    Middag Jors. Het jy dalk meer inligting omtrent to Ovis-tonnel? Kry hierdie dam water vanuit die Oranjerivier? Ek sal nogal daarvan hou om bietjie meer te leer hieroor.

      Ja ek het inligting , die Gamtoos en Grootrivier kry nie uit die Oranje rivier nie, dit was voorheen beplan , maar die besluit is later geneem dat daar nie genoeg water is om die projek te regverdig nie. Ek gaan nog meer videos maak oor die projekteen sal later meer inligting deel.

      As ek dit nie mis het nie kry dit water uit die Kouga revier. Ek was in 1984 in die Kouga kloof af tot waar die Ferreras aan die begin van die kloof gebly het. Daar het die Ragels revier n syloop van die Kouga begin. Dit was ñ belewenis. Die natuur wonder skoon en die mense opreg.

    Thanks. In the earlier footage there's a tunnel. Does it lead onto the dam wall? It seems a bit strange to me.

    • @JorsMalan
      @JorsMalan  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several tunnels into the wall with instruments measuring movement in the concrete

      @@JorsMalan Thanks. The one I'm referring to is at 0:44. It seems large enough for a vehicle. It seems to give access to the wall?

  • @pa6552

    Very interesting scale model - show this to kids to teach them how pressure works - most adults even would think the dam wall is too thin "to keep back so much water".

    Model dam ...falling to pieces.... lack of maintenance ...again ???

    • @JorsMalan
      @JorsMalan  ปีที่แล้ว

      It could certainly do with some TLC, but considering it has fulfilled its purpose some 50 plus years ago it is in not too bad condition. I do think a bit more could be made of it though, maybe we should petition the Irrigation Board to make a monument out of it.

    As a youngster I accompanied my father on a visit by the SAICE local PE branch to the site. The dam was under construction and the model was demonstrated to the bunch of engineers on that visit.
    One purpose was to study the optimal way to split the water cascading over the spillway. Without splitters the sheet of cascading water was unstable and made a huge flutering curtain of water

    • @JorsMalan
      @JorsMalan  ปีที่แล้ว

      The study of the spillway was also what I understood the purpose of the model was. I have not heard about the flutter of the stream, but hat could possibly have created vibrations in the dam.

    Huge relief to have so much water in the dam again. I am not in PE but have friends there. At least the possibility of water wars is averted for now! Also a lot of that water in the dam was donated by my Northern hills! 😁😁😁😁

    Those hills look so like southern California. They have a lot of dams too. The shape of this dam is interesti- like a thin clamshell.
