This game was better than any NBA match I've seen in the last decade. The Germans were just unbeatable as a team this night. They literally showed some old German Virtues! Just as Ehrgeiz, Kampfgeist and Teamgeist, they were well organized and so precise that Greece had no real choice against them. What is usually enough in the NBA, is definitely not enough in Europe anymore, wow! Hut ab!
You know, it's so nice to see how true basketball fans congratulating the opponents. I said the same when Italy sent us home the other day. As much as I was heartbroken on Sunday and I am sure my fellow Greeks are today, it's only sports. No need to be rude regardless if your team won or lost. I wish every competition is like this. We need good ball in Europe, and deserve it.
I actually don’t want to watch another super soft NBA game after watching this Eurobasket. Curious to see how the American team plays in the World Cup after most players are used to the soft 3pt style of the NBA.

Felt the same way the other day when we lost to Italy. Simply can't defend against these threes. Our players are not that great shooters like we used to have. Giannis and Jokic can't do much when the perimeter players can't hit their shots.

I watched the game on Greek TV, They talked about how the Turkish basketball team was not good and had so many problems for 10 minutes and did not even focus on the game with Germany. Will Greece ever grow up? Germany deserved to win. They played much better than Greece; just admit it. Just be honest to yourself. Anywyas, I have to say that I miss Nowitzki. Great guy.

Germany have played a better "team game" in general while Greece was depended on Giannis basically. it's great to have a superstar in your team but sometimes it doesn't work. And this Greek generation is not very bright when you compare it with the previous national players to be honest. Diamantidis,Spanoulis etc were cold blooded players.

Greece without Giannis is not a contender to win anything. Those MVPs actually give their teams a chance. Serbia has underperformed for a while now but also I don’t think they have always brought their best players. Especially with the injury of Bogdanovic this year.
It's still a team sport, they can't do it alone. And yes, international basketball is quite different. But from all of these "Big 3" Doncic is the most adaptive to this game style.

His attitude is a real problem, two times his been send off to shower early since this tournament is undergoing! He cannot keep his cool and disses of his opponents, not really respectful!

An interesting observation: following the unification of Germany, Greece and Germany have won Eurobaskets exactly those times when they got to face each other in the knock-out phase. This seems like a good omen for Germany.
haha true, I still remember that 1993 semi. was such a hard fought game and I believe it was decided by just 3 points or so. And 2005 was a crazy game too. Always high energy between those two teams when it matters.

I enjoyed watching the Greek team so much this summer, from the friendlies right through to yesterday's defeat, every minute was full of excitement and I'm so grateful for the players' efforts. I really wish Kostas Antetokounmpo never got injured as he was really flying in the preseason games - especially against Serbia, and I felt like the team played better with him on the floor than with Papagiannis who is not well suited to fast play. Congratulations to Germany 🇩🇪 you played a flawless game. The whole tournament has been a great showcase for European basketball and I hope that Fiba can take advantage of this to reach new audiences.

I favored greece but germany played really well. Also I think we need at least 3 games when it comes to elimination phases, like a playoff system. One game, everything can go wrong. Like shooting percentages, some players not being in a good shape that night etc. One game is not defining enough.
80 games per season (+playoffs) and an additional World or continental championship with maybe 20 instead of 10 games in two weeks. You won't see any NBA player at those tournaments.

I remember I went to a detlef schrempf camp in 1998 just watch my teammate perform. I was so amaze of on how many great German players was at the camp. I miss them army brat days in Germany 🇩🇪.
First of all, I'm an impartial observer, but I've always liked Greek basketball. What I saw again yesterday in the Germany-Greece game was that defense makes the difference. The Germans don't have as good a team as Serbia, France or Greece, but they're over-motivated and defend very well. All players (regulars and substitutes) play at the same level. By the others, the difference between the players who are on the field and the players who are on the bench is just too big.
Greece has good players both in the game and out!The big issue is that the games we saw was the last one month s work because the synthesis was decided the last two months or less.The coach also had not have cooperated with this team in generall more before!No chemistry or bond as a united team should have for better results fulfilled.
@@konair9952 I'm sorry but Greece doesn't have any world level players. Sloukas, Kalathes, Larentzakis etc. are good players but not world class players. Giannis is the only one. Overall, Germany may not have world-class players either, but they are all a step above Greece. Wagner, Theis, Schröder (even if I don't like his arrogant manner at all), Obst, Giffey, Maolo Dó, Voigtmann etc. None of them have the class of Giannis, but they are better than their Greek counterparts. That's my unbiased opinion.

But apart from Wagner and Shroder maybe the others are on the same and lower level than most of the Greek players (excluding giannis which is on another level than any player of the eurobasket except doncic and jokic)
On the scoreboard it’s a surprise for sure, but Germany was more motivated and concentrated both on defense and offense at key times. Loads of missed shots by Greeks. Proud of Greek team who lost with dignity. That's what sport is all about. Loads of disrespect from the other side, both on and off court (announcers talking over the game and song choices). In the end Germans played better, there was no need for this disrespectful behaviour.
Bad hosting from the Germans, I thought the same. You don't try to overlap the stadium's natural sound and fans' voices with songs and microphones. That was pathetic and bad sportsmanship for basketball. Not to mention that they changed the time of the game last minute... Anyway. May basketball bring peace and cultivate fair play messages to the people in general no matter the result.

Now, maintaining an impartial stadium (as far as possible) is a fairplay move. This is not a league where you are playing at home or away, it's a tournament, and the host has to maintain impartiality. It's just disrespectful to be talking over the game or provoke with songs. I would had said the same in any occasion. It was ugly.

Plus Schröder got 2 technical fouls for one situation and the coach got one. Giannis got 2 flagrant fouls for two different unsportsmanlike moves. To be fair. Germany has, after Finland, the secondmost fouls overall 'til now (again, not out-of-the-norm more fouls, though). And before the game I thought Germany would lose today. Greece is such a great team! It probably would have went the other way if the finals were played in a playoff format. The Greek fans in the arena were a delight. So, thanks! 🙏🏻
As a Greek I have to say: Germany played a perfect game and Greece seemed half hearted at times, especially in defence. They kept pace up to a point but there were way too many instances where they seemed like they didn't care for the rebounds. It's hard to be dissapointed when you see such a performance even from the opposite team. Those 3 pointers going in one after the other were unreal. It could be that Germany will have their own 1987 and the sport will become more popular overnight. Still, I kinda want Italy to win gold, just cause I'm curious about their coach's reaction.

Βασικό και τραγικό συνάμα σε ματς ζωής θανάτου.Από ΄κει και πέρα δεν είναι δικαιολογία η ευστοχία τού αντιπάλου ... Όταν τα ποσοστά σου στα σουτ, είναι αισχρά, όταν οι πάσες για σουτ είναι αγχωτικές και μη ορθολογικές, δηλαδή όχι κάθετες και σβέλτες ώστε να διευκολυνθεί ο εκάστοτε σουτέρ ... Going into this Eurobasket quarterfinal match memories of the heartbreaking loss in the semifinals of Eurobasket 1993 match in Munich against home team Germany came to my mind. Germany went on to win 1993 Eurobasket gold medal that tournament. Greece came into this 2022 Eurobasket with a record of 1 win and 16 losses playing HOME teams in Eurobasket play. It tells you a lot about home field advantage in these tournaments and the role it plays especially in knock out matches. Greece went on to defeat home team Italy in round roubin play in this tournament hence record went 2 wins and 16 losses against home teams in Eurobasket play. As for Germany, today everything and i mean everything went perfect.for them AND ALL WENT THEIR WAY.. played match of their lives versus Greece. I mean Gerrmany in 1st half shot 65% in 3 point attempts this is just ridiculous. For Greece Calathes went 0 for 4 , Dorsey went 2 for 7 and Sloukas went 1 for 4 and ill stop there.. it was just a nightmare of a day and one of those nights that nothing went right for Greece and everything went from bad to worst.That being said, I am very proud of the Greece team and Greece will be back in the podium very soon A GREAT FOUNDATION was build in this tournament. When you fall you get up and you rise. Finally the taunting from Schroder in the entire match is unacceptable in basketball and there is rules of respect and honour in these tournaments. This stuff is not welcomed.
Yeah Dennis took it a bit too far with the taunting, but I think Larentzakis sparked this today. You know that trashtalking is part of his game and he (Larentzakis) tries to get inside ppls heads. he tried it on Wagner and Schröder and they both burned him and I think this sent Dennis into a bit of an arrogant fit since he was also playing really well. I believe there was this one situation where Dennis went past him and got the and1 where they talked shit before and then he wagged the finger at him. But I guess that is what star players sometimes do. Luca behaved in a similar way when he had an amazing game vs germany but noone called him out for it. At least Schröder got 2 techs and got ejected so he probably will learn his lesson.

anyone who followed this tournament knew that germany would win vs greece. greece was good but germany was great all tournament long and pre-tournament as well. i was flabbergasted when i saw the voting of how 70% almost went to greece, that's what you get with casual fans. serbia - italy is a bad example. majority of serbian players had a bad game, but aside from that, the major factor was that jokic only played 28mins. the serbian coach literally put jokic on the bench for no reason in the third and 4th for quite some minutes, and that's what cost them the win. just playing jokic for a few more minutes and serbia would've been playinv vs france.

First of all kudos to Germany, they played the game of their lives. Basket unfortunately for Greece and the old school basketball fans has changed. One strong player under the basket isn't enough these days, you need as many as good distance big shorters as possible that could defend also. Greek basketball is in crisis like the country used to be. Greek teams constantly arguing with each other no reason, a state that doesn't care to protect its main sport product. Covid was the final nail in the coffin. If something doesn't change dramatically, I don't see how Greek basketball could remain where it used to be and it's a pity because there is the human sources, very experienced people that can revive the sport with minimal help from the state. As an ex basketball referee member I am very sad today but I hope this is the final lesson for the Greek government and the Greek state that we are no longer to the level we use to be and we should do something immediately for the future generations. Protect the greek basketball from toxicity and support the athletes.

Another great game and surpsirsing result in a great tournament. By far the best and most competitive Euros i can remember. i have to say though that i would have loved to watch Giannis and Jokic in the final stages of the tournament.
Score is really high without even having an extra time played. With point guards like Sloukas and Calathes, i think Greece would prefer a lower scoring game as those two are great with set plays and not that great when they need to run back-and-forth. In any case, Neighbors were one of my favorites which didnt turn out to be true. Thanks to both teams for a great match. Expecting Calathes and Itoudis for the Fener preseason training asap. 🙂

This game was better than any NBA match I've seen in the last decade. The Germans were just unbeatable as a team this night. They literally showed some old German Virtues! Just as Ehrgeiz, Kampfgeist and Teamgeist, they were well organized and so precise that Greece had no real choice against them. An interesting observation: following the unification of Germany, Greece and Germany have won Eurobaskets exactly those times when they got to face each other in the knock-out phase. This seems like a good omen for Germany.

I enjoyed watching the Greek team so much this summer, from the friendlies right through to yesterday's defeat, every minute was full of excitement and I'm so grateful for the players' efforts. I really wish Kostas Antetokounmpo never got injured as he was really flying in the preseason games - especially against Serbia, and I felt like the team played better with him on the floor than with Papagiannis who is not well suited to fast play. Congratulations to Germany 🇩🇪 you played a flawless game. The whole tournament has been a great showcase for European basketball and I hope that Fiba can take advantage of this to reach new audiences.

I favored greece but germany played really well. Also I think we need at least 3 games when it comes to elimination phases, like a playoff system. One game, everything can go wrong. Like shooting percentages, some players not being in a good shape that night etc. One game is not defining enough.

First of all, I'm an impartial observer, but I've always liked Greek basketball. What I saw again yesterday in the Germany-Greece game was that defense makes the difference. The Germans don't have as good a team as Serbia, France or Greece, but they're over-motivated and defend very well. All players (regulars and substitutes) play at the same level. By the others, the difference between the players who are on the field and the players who are on the bench is just too big.

Overall, Germany may not have world-class players either, but they are all a step above Greece. Now, maintaining an impartial stadium (as far as possible) is a fairplay move. This is not a league where you are playing at home or away, it's a tournament, and the host has to maintain impartiality. It's just disrespectful to be talking over the game or provoke with songs. 24 fouls to 19 fouls is hardly out of the norm, neither the amount of fouls nor the difference. Plus Schröder got 2 technical fouls for one situation and the coach got one. Giannis got 2 flagrant fouls for two different unsportsmanlike moves.
To be fair. Germany has, after Finland, the secondmost fouls overall 'til now (again, not out-of-the-norm more fouls, though). And before the game I thought Germany would lose today. Greece is such a great team! It probably would have went the other way if the finals were played in a playoff format. The Greek fans in the arena were a delight. So, thanks! 🙏🏻

As a Greek I have to say: Germany played a perfect game and Greece seemed half hearted at times, especially in defence. They kept pace up to a point but there were way too many instances where they seemed like they didn't care for the rebounds. It's hard to be dissapointed when you see such a performance even from the opposite team. Those 3 pointers going in one after the other were unreal. It could be that Germany will have their own 1987 and the sport will become more popular overnight.
Still, I kinda want Italy to win gold, just cause I'm curious about their coach's reaction.

Going into this Eurobasket quarterfinal match memories of the heartbreaking loss in the semifinals of Eurobasket 1993 match in Munich against home team Germany came to my mind. Germany went on to win 1993 Eurobasket gold medal that tournament. Greece came into this 2022 Eurobasket with a record of 1 win and 16 losses playing HOME teams in Eurobasket play. It tells you a lot about home field advantage in these tournaments and the role it plays especially in knock out matches. Greece went on to defeat home team Italy in round roubin play in this tournament hence record went 2 wins and 16 losses against home teams in Eurobasket play. As for Germany, today everything and i mean everything went perfect.for them AND ALL WENT THEIR WAY.. played match of their lives versus Greece. I mean Gerrmany in 1st half shot 65% in 3 point attempts this is just ridiculous. For Greece Calathes went 0 for 4 , Dorsey went 2 for 7 and Sloukas went 1 for 4 and ill stop there.. it was just a nightmare of a day and one of those nights that nothing went right for Greece and everything went from bad to worst.That being said, I am very proud of the Greece team and Greece will be back in the podium very soon A GREAT FOUNDATION was build in this tournament. When you fall you get up and you rise. Finally the taunting from Schroder in the entire match is unacceptable in basketball and there is rules of respect and honour in these tournaments. This stuff is not welcomed.
Yeah Dennis took it a bit too far with the taunting, but I think Larentzakis sparked this today. You know that trashtalking is part of his game and he (Larentzakis) tries to get inside ppls heads. he tried it on Wagner and Schröder and they both burned him and I think this sent Dennis into a bit of an arrogant fit since he was also playing really well. I believe there was this one situation where Dennis went past him and got the and1 where they talked shit before and then he wagged the finger at him. But I guess that is what star players sometimes do. Luca behaved in a similar way when he had an amazing game vs germany but noone called him out for it. At least Schröder got 2 techs and got ejected so he probably will learn his lesson.

serbia - italy is a bad example. majority of serbian players had a bad game, but aside from that, the major factor was that jokic only played 28mins. the serbian coach literally put jokic on the bench for no reason in the third and 4th for quite some minutes, and that's what cost them the win. just playing jokic for a few more minutes and serbia would've been playinv vs france.

I am Greek and I was not sad at all with this defeat because quite simply the best team won and that is the beauty of sports. Germany played much better and got this win because they deserved it.Congratulations to Germany.
Ο κοουτς Ιτουδης ήταν σε τραγική ημέρα όπως και όλοι σχεδόν οι παίκτες μας, πλην Γιάννη και Λάρι. Δεν παίξανε με ψυχή, με καρδιά, με πάθος και με βάση την ποιότητα τους και την αξία τους. Το σιχαμα ο Σρέντερ ήταν προκλητικός απ'την αρχή του παιχνιδιού μέχρι και την στιγμή που αποβλήθηκε από τον αγώνα και οι δικοί μας αντί να του κόψουν τον τσαμπουκά, τον έπαιζαν άμυνα με τα μάτια. Γενικότερα οι αντίπαλοι (που δεν τους συμπαθώ καθόλο) επαιζαν απ' την αρχή με πάθος και οι δικοί μας τους κοιτούσαν με τα μάτια αντί να παίξουν λυσσαλέα άμυνα όπως έκαναν αυτοί..
Ντόρσεϊ, απογοητευτικό και κατώτερος των περιστάσεων. Καλάθης, λίγος. Παπαγιάννης, σκιά του εαυτού του. Παπαπέτρου, κάκιστο τουρνουά. Παπανικολάου, προσπάθησε αλλά δεν έφτανε. Σλούκας, έτσι και έτσι, και ναι και όχι. Κώστας Αντ., μηδενική συμμετοχή σε όλο το τουρνουά. Θανάσης, πάντα στην σκιά του αδερφού του. Αγραβάνης, Λούντζης, τα παιδιά όσο μπάσκετ ξέρουν, τόσο μπάσκετ έπαιξαν. Γιάννης και Λάρι, οι μοναδικοί επιζώντες ενός τεράστιου ναυαγίου. Η μεγαλύτερη όμως απογοήτευση ήταν ο κοουτς Ιτουδης που σε κανένα σημείο του παιχνιδιού δεν βοήθησε την ομάδα με αποκορύφωμα την τρίτη περίοδο που ουσιαστικά κρίθηκε το παιχνίδι.
Ούτε ο Γιάννης ήταν σε καλη ημέρα θεωρώ . Ίσως το παιχνίδι με τη Τσεχία Ήτανε κρίσιμο και μας κόστισε πολύ ενέργεια

First of all kudos to Germany, they played the game of their lives.
Basket unfortunately for Greece and the old school basketball fans has changed. One strong player under the basket isn't enough these days, you need as many as good distance big shorters as possible that could defend also. Greek basketball is in crisis like the country used to be. Greek teams constantly arguing with each other no reason, a state that doesn't care to protect its main sport product. Covid was the final nail in the coffin. If something doesn't change dramatically, I don't see how Greek basketball could remain where it used to be and it's a pity because there is the human sources, very experienced people that can revive the sport with minimal help from the state. As an ex basketball referee member I am very sad today but I hope this is the final lesson for the Greek government and the Greek state that we are no longer to the level we use to be and we should do something immediately for the future generations. Protect the greek basketball from toxicity and support the athletes.

Another great game and surpsirsing result in a great tournament. By far the best and most competitive Euros i can remember. i have to say though that i would have loved to watch Giannis and Jokic in the final stages of the tournament.

Score is really high without even having an extra time played. With point guards like Sloukas and Calathes, i think Greece would prefer a lower scoring game as those two are great with set plays and not that great when they need to run back-and-forth.
In any case, Neighbors were one of my favorites which didnt turn out to be true. Thanks to both teams for a great match. Expecting Calathes and Itoudis for the Fener preseason training asap. 🙂
