I was a freshman at IU when Spivey was a senior. I was always playing pickup basketball at the HYPER. During the winter months when the weather was bad, Spivey would sometimes run on the HYPER track that circled the basketball courts. When Spivey entered the building there was always a hush and whispers. "There's Spivey...Spivey's here...did you see Spivey." Everyone knew he was a world-class runner.
this is the most bizarre 1500m race I have ever seen. two falls. 14 man field. 1st runner goes out in 53!!! under world record pace. Yet the commentators think it's slow because the field is bunched. Those guys were hammering! Why was it still so bunched? Then there's Spivey's emotional victory. The look on Joe Falcon's face. There's so much to this. What an insane race.
That definitely wasnt a 53 first lap, if you look closely the pack is still in the middle of the curve when the split appears. It was somewhere around 56-57, still pretty fast but nowhere near to WR pace
Jim Spivey is one of the best human being I've had the pleasure to meet.

This video is going to be popular mark my words...
Cheers to Charlie Marsala, the pride of Staten Island track!
I posted this on Jim Spivey's website. Thanks!
Amazing race!
Would you happen to have a video of the 1988 Mens Trials 1500 final?
This is not the Olympics of Barcelona 1992! Who is this guy?
trials
Masback keeps saying it’s a tactical race . 158 is a very honest pace at 800 for a 1500 .final . Duh
