Today, I present to you the complete service of everyone’s all time favorite portrait vintage lens, the Nikkor 85mm f/1.4 AI-s. I got this copy very cheap because of stiff focusing ring, also, the previous owner tried to fix the lens, but wasn’t able to reassemble it properly.

you mean my voice or my daughter's. Let me know how you manage your Zeiss, construction may not be the same to this one here, but Zeiss lenses are generally well made and are simple to service (at least the old ones). Cheers.

I purchased a Nikon 28mm f2.8 AI-s that needs new grease. I think I will video record and take pictures to help get it back together. I will try as you suggested to clean grease first before taking heli coils apart.
the most important thing to do when working with helicoids is to mark the point were they separate. Take your time to do that, it will save you a lot of time better. If not 100% yes, I recommend not separating entirely but cleaning partially. It is not perfect but it works very well. Cheers.
@@diyextravaganza Hello, here is an update. It was an easy fix, not sticky helicoils. I remembered your comment that many lenses are not put back together correctly after cleaning. When I removed the front ring I had full motion from Infinity to 0.2m. Apparently a former owner cleaned the lens elements then when reassembling did not have the lens group extended fully forward to infinity. I screwed the front ring on with the lens at infinity and I have full focus range with a clean, very inexpensive, high quality lens. In case you are not already familiar. The construction of the Nikon 28mm F2.8 AI-S is very similar to the Nikon-E 50mm. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
@@jimschmidt7303 thanks, I appreciate a lot your feedback. I have myself bought, very cheap, lenses whose previous owners mounted wrong. The most memorable to this day is a micro-nikkor 60mm that I got on a plastic bag in pieces for 27€. Thanks for supporting the channel.

Not always, but when it happens, a little of nail polish remover does the trick 99% of the time. Cheers
