My mom went to college at UGA in the mid-80s so I’ve been steeped in bands like REM, Guadalcanal Diary, Magnapop, The B-52s, etc. Guadalcanal has always been a comfort band for me ❤
This band was brilliant; this song is just one example. One example. American music media criminally ignored them. Thank R.E.M. for having them open during a portion of their 1986 tour for some exposure.
Guadalcanal Diary was a phenomenal band and Flip Flop was a great album. It was part of my collection I’d listen to in my car, along with cd’s from other great bands like REM, The Replacements, The Cure, The Alarm, The Hoodoo Gurus, and many more. And if I had the chance… Yes, I’d go back in a heartbeat!
I live in a rural area outside Athens GA. Fell in love with a townie girl from Athens at a skating rink on the west side. It seemed like every time I’d leave her house, this song would come on. Reminds me of the pure euphoria I felt being around her. I hope I see her again one day.

The 3 kids and Dog at the end , as the next door kids , having them run across the side walk .the crew wanted them to do it one more time , but the Dog wouldn't go , one take shot . Nice doggie . I love this video You are the best part of the video Timothy. Saturdays are always special, when I was growing up this video Described my Saturdays You said it was in the San Fernando Valley ,do you know approximately where it was? It looked like Altadena to me it must be further in the valley I saw the band a few times Always enjoy watching this Thank you
This came out when I was in High School and I loved it, along with pretty much everything else Guadalcanal Diary did. Thanks for being a part of a happy childhood memory.
This came out the spring of my senior year of high school. I gotta admit, I got a little choked up hearing it again. Who knew that era of innocence wouldn't be forever?
Life goes on was my introduction to this band and I have to say was one of my favorites. But Always Saturday is hands down the catchiest of all the songs for me.
I saw these guys play to a really confused audience at a frat party in Charlottesville, VA around 1985. I liked 'em, unlike most people there. Also....does anyone here think this video influenced the video for "Black Hole Sun"? I do.
I have worn those exactly same glass frames for the past 30 years. At some point you need enough room for the bifocals. Yeah I'm old now. Still amazeballs music.

So many amazing song from this great, great band!
What an amazing time to be alive!
A nice layer on happy-sounding music and lyrical delivery atop a deep layer of melancholy. Such a great song.
Thanks! An undervalued band with a spectacular song! I feel so upbeat when I hear this that I just want to live in a shopping mall!
Several spectacular songs.

My dad *loves* them! And after listening to them for 22 years, so do I!
I'd like to live in my local shopping mall, but these days I'd be the only one there.

That guitar tone makes me happy.

Wow, what an ear-worm... had did this not hit? Shame on SPIN and Rolling Stone and every music critic that acted like reduction valves for music fans.
This song said it all about white life in America…
Yeah, the good old days. Now it's a cesspool.
