- LBC looks into the equipment UK police forces hold compared to the equipment US cops hold. American Police carry two firearms and a taser whereas only specialist police carry tasers and firearms in the UK.
LBC's Nick Ferrari is campaigning for more police to carry tasers as part of his Time For Tasers campaign.

If you watch the video he clearly just rips a velcro attachment from his undershirt off and the pistol is mounted on top of his vest. Did you ever think about what you were writing?
Most police officer's shirts actually unzip though it looks like its a button up. It unzips so the officer can access his backup weapon which can be carried on his bulletproof vest. So to answer your question he still has on a bullet proof vest. That being said not all officers carry the backup weapon like that. I have never carried my backup that way.

@@RealFemale69 and Northern Irish police literally used army helicopters and armoured Land Rovers to deploy whilst routinely carrying machine guns. Even now they’re routinely armed with Glocks and SMGs, with armoured cars for patrol duties and crowd control. Different threat level mate.

The UK doesn't have to deal with the same situations that US officers do. They don't have the guns on the streets we do so of course they don't need guns, they have them, but they don't need to keep them on their person. Take those UK officers and let them work in Chicago and see how comfortable they feel with a tazer, some pepper spray and a stab vest on. When the UK does have an incident where guns are involved, they get their guns out. You don't take pepper spray to a gun fight.

Long Rifles (rifles, shotguns, carbines, etc) can be bought at 18 years old, while some states allow for those 16 or older to purchase a firearm. The state with the youngest age available to purchase a firearm is Montana. Montana Gun Laws has no specific age, but a child law does state that 14 is the minimum age a Minor can have a Firearm

I’m 18, I bought my first rifle In May. I can’t take that rifle in public. Only for personal use.
Pistols are 21 and rifles even in states were you can buy them at 16 you need an adult and still have to go threw a background check and you can not carry them in public

This video is wildly inaccurate. My dad is a cop in the US and I’ll tell you he doesn’t have 3 straps on him with gloves, 6 clips of ammo, 4 sets of cuffs like this dude does.
He has a pistol, taser, cuffs, pepper spray, 2 extra clips, and his radio. All on 1 belt strap. I don’t know what the cop on the video is on. The only difference is that some cops in the UK don’t have guns and have stylish checkerboard patterns on their clothes

@@mlgprussian7115 Yonkers is the net town north of New York City. These cops are in a SWAT specialized unit which is why they are so heavily equipped with a triple magazine carrier, not 6, and wearing a military fatigue type uniform. Regular patrol street cops carry a double magazine pouch.
UK: we only have a taser gun.
US. We have a taser, pistol, a shot gun in the car and a AR in the trunk. Oh and did I forget to mention a 2nd gun under my vest?

It's extremely rare for a British police officer to be shot at by a criminal. It probably happens about 5 times every 10 years. Some years it doesn't happen at all.

British cops are trained to de-escalate a situation, american cops shoot first , ask questions later
no i don't. if you come at a cop with deadly force then they need to apply the same level of force. We believe that criminals are responsible for their actions, thats the key difference here. Keep UK sentencing and policing in the uk please
@@IconoclastX Um, so do we. If someone is shooting at our police, we don’t only try to de escalate the situation we will summon Armed police with firearms in a matter of 2 minutes to neutralise the suspect.
However, the point he was trying to get at was in circumstances where lethal force is not necessary. Such as when someone has a knife, a taser will work just fine and is non lethal. Or when someone is fleeing from police, albeit that is a crime it doesn’t deserve a death sentence.

The situation shouldn't have to be prolonged because of some perverse and low iq interpretation of "civility" which compels far left European countries like britain to pamper violent offenders at all cost to the innocent. "going at the mercy of the wolves" This phrase really stood out to me. I feel this describes the relationship and the problem between police and, not even just criminals, but basically the general public in the US. They are straight out enemies.
I don't get the same feeling when the UK officers are talking and I never had or heard of that here in Germany; not even when an officer approached me because I did something wrong.
There simply ain't this lingering sense of threat.
In my opinion, this is by far the bigger issue in the US, and and outweighs the entire gun-debate. The disconnect, the trench between the police force and the general public they "serve and protect". Every encounter is a potentially life-threatening event; for both sides. I'd say that the availability of firearms in the US is merely a multiplier, It makes an existing bad situation worse. But it ain't at the root of the issues.
Absolutely, more and more in the US the police develop this 'us vs them' mentality where the priority is to protect themselves and eachother rather than the citizens they're meant to serve. Policing in the UK isn't perfect, but they are regular people in uniforms as Peel intended.
@Opai-sama No, I don't. This wasn't meant as a "US Cops bad"-post. I am well aware about the hostility towards Cops in the US, that with every encounter he could face a gun. And that's equally insane. That's also what I meant mentioning the lingering sense of threat when hearing the US Cops speak, that's exactly what comes through in the phrase above.
I can understand that a criminal may see a Cop as an enemy, but average citizens?
The Point I tried to emphasize is the disconnect/the trench between the executive force and the general public, sometimes even including the other two forces of the state. And again, this goes both ways.
It's like a standoff between two armed groups, and everyone waits for the other one to put the guns down first. And nobody adresses how crazy it is, that in 2021 in the richest nation in the world, there's a standoff between two armed groups. This ain't the wild west anymore, and it's not a warzone, yet.

Just a backup in case his main gun would have some kind of catastrophic failure (highly unlikely) or more likely in case he would drop his main gun in a car accident or a fist fight. Or maybe in case he would be in some huge shooting and some passerby would be unarmed but well trained (off duty military or cop), so he could give that guy a gun. Something like that. No reason not to tell.

I am Australian but once a police officer was giving a presentation at our school and she had a gun and I kept on thinking why would she even need a gun on her while giving a lesson in cyber safety to a room of 12 year olds.

@@justin3594 train the cops better. No amount in adding weaponry can fix badly trained staff. Ofcourse it is matter of priorities and resourcing. Long and well trained staff is more expensive compared to quickly and thus poorly trained staff. If people invest lot of tine getting trained for profession, they expect comparable return on their investment.
Also longer trained and more disciplined staff can them be given heavier firepower safely and responsibly.
All giving more firepower to badly trained staff does is increase damage bystanders and innocents.

If you're innocent and you're not white and reject an officer checking you out it will escalate to the point of your life being threatened VERY quickly. If you don't believe me watch the recording of this officer attempting to investigate a scene of this black man picking up trash at his own residence because the officer thought he was invading someone else's property even tho he was on the public sidewalk. The officer had no right to investigate this black man on a street picking up trash. INFACT YOU SEE A WHITE WOMAN WALKING BY ON THE SAME PATH YET HE DOESN'T INVESTIGATE HER FOR "INTRUDING ON PRIVATE PROPERTY." within 20 minutes the officer was putting his hands on his gun because the man continued to pick up trash at his residence.

As a cop here in NY. I’d rather have my service weapon and not need it then, need it and not have it. Thank god I’ve never had to use it. I hope my brothers and sisters in the UK stay safe out there.

If the UK ever became a dangerous enough place I'm sure ownership and public carry would become legal but as it's alot safer here than the American "everyone are essential to survive" brigade seem to believe it is... it's currently NOT legal to publicly carry a firearm, however if I wanted to I could legally own one as long it's kept safe. I just don't need to right now.

@St Cam it may be the same but the way it's done is different. In the UK it's much harder to get a firearm therefore there is little gun crime. More people die from stabbings and police almost never need do deal with these people face to face. The people are unarmed and so is the police

The reason police in the UK don’t carry firearms is that there is no need to. guns are strictly controlled in the country and, if the need arises, armed police can be dispatched to dangerous situations as well as CTSFOS (Counter Terrorism police) and other specialised teams.

I think people forget the fact that in the US there's literally more firearms than people and in the UK most citizens don't even know they can get firearms.

In the UK you can own firearms for purposes other than self defence. You just have to jump through loops. See Firearms and Shotgun Certifcates under the Firearms Act.

Comparing UK cops to US cops is adorable, especially when you don't delve into the fact we have guns and more people.
Our armed police are much more advanced than US cops because they are properly trained, not just handed a gun after a few months. Uk police force uses logic which give us an upper hand because the US don’t have any.

No, the average British cop arent equipped with guns because they arent needed. British Police are trained in de-esculation, talking and trying to sort out things in a civil manner, violence is the last measure and if they are in that situation then a taser and a baton is more than enough for someone who is trained in them.
If a gun is involved (which is practically never) then the culprit had about 2 minutes left of freedom before the UK Armed Police arrive and arrest them, most will surrender rather than face a firefight because the UK police who are allowed guns are actually trained in using them in an professional manner.
Meanwhile the American police receive little to no training in, well, policing and de-esculating situations without violence and also receive less than adequate gun training, meaning they are literally worse in every aspect.
When I was young, all they carried was a whistle, notebook and a truncheon. That was the 40s and 50s.

I live in the UK and find it very bizarre that the UK is one of the very few countries in world (with population of over 30 million) were officers aren’t routinely armed. Everyone also seems to use American officers as a example when it comes to carrying guns on duty, forgetting the fact that Canadian/Australian police also routinely carry guns and both have smaller populations than the UK.
We got Armed police for that and only police who carry guns is Northern Irish police
The police here don't need guns because 99% of criminals don't have guns, and those who do almost never use them against the public or the police, they use them against other criminals or gang members. They know if they did use them against the police or public they would receive a whole life sentence in prison. That's just firing one, even if it didn't actually hurt anyone.

Everyone has to know not all US police officers have the same equipment. For example, different funding, big city police Departments can be more wealthy with equipment than a small less populated city with low crime rate. Basics for US equipment is Taser, Glock, Handcuffs, Baton, Pepper spray. Of course high populated city departments will have other special equipment like less lethal Bean bag firearms.
