This part of the Billy Joel 'Masterclass Concert' TV special was what made me finally go out and get a CD copy of that album for good (2001's 'Fantasies & Delusions'). Probably my all-time favorite album by Billy Joel as of this comment (JUST ahead of 1983's 'An Innocent Man', a longtime childhood favorite that one is still) and the fact that he was humble enough to bring in professional concert pianist Richard Hyung-ki Joo to fully bring his classically-influenced compositions to life during those recording sessions was a real game-changer for me. I just never tire of it and it truly reveals a side of Joel as a writer that not many honestly knew he had beyond his more familiar pop/rock material up to that point.
Except that it's NOT a Billy Joel album. He wrote it and probably produced and arranged it, but he doesn't play a damn thing on it ..... It was supposedly too complicated for even him to play, so he hired this other guy. To say this is a Billy Joel album is no different than saying that the artist of BAT OUT OF HELL is Jim Steinman, with Meat Loaf as merely the hired vocalist.
Of all the great albums and songs that Billy Joel has produced over two decades, if this album, which is really not a Billy Joel album, is your favorite of all his albums, then you have very questionable musical tastes, to say the least. Classical is pompous and boring.
@@televizorfan4349 ....... The only nonsense is calling this thing a Billy Joel album. He doesn't play a single note on it, therefore it's NOT a Billy Joel album, Dumbass.

So glad they played "Dublinesque", my favorite. Also love "nunley carousel" 🎠
The last one has a little "And So it Goes" in it.
Hadn't thought of that before but it really does.
I too love this album, it is simply superb.
My favorite Billy Joel album by far. Wonderful music.

In these compostitions, Billy Joel gives "classical" music a breath of fresh air. I don't find them "pompous" *or* "boring". 🙂
I took 13 years of classical piano lessons and like Billy Joel, trying to play something in another vanacular is something I really suck at 😊
