This song nearly didn't make the album, the bassist Mikey actually convinced the others that it was worth saving, so to speak, that there was potential to make it the song it became
I was listening to a fun song before this. I saw your notification then everything went down the emo hole. This song is just sad... MCR is just SAD. BTW, that Car Radio tangent was great XD
I find this song something I wanna sleep to, but I don’t sleep with songs that use go**amn cause I’m a Christian, D*mn isn’t that bad, but with god in it, I think it’s bad. And listening to certain things while you sleep affects your thoughts.
This song has always been a favorite of mine. The lyrics really resonate with me. Partially because I'm the same age group as the guys. lol The lines about your heroes selling cars on tv also made me think about the fact that as you get to adulthood the people that were your heroes have lost fame or whatever. Not just that they were trying to sell us stuff and use us for money, but that that's the only work they can get. This song is sad, for sure, but also really true. You become an adult and your heroes aren't heroes any more, they're real people.
One of my favs, and you uploaded on my birthday years ago, too. I come back to Disenchanted on nights like this and listen to it over and over to be reminded that I'm not the only one going through tough shit, it's a little therapeutic, and the message of Famous Last Words really draws out a determination to move forward. Disenchanted was the first song I listened to after the biggest breakup of my life, after a friend died, and after surgery. It doesn't make me happy, it just helps, because I usually can't express to people on hotlines or therapists why I'm sad sometimes. This was really great, I'll check out some of your other MCR videos after some sleep.
I love My Chemical Romance. I know that you think their lyrics depress people, but for me, they kind of comfort me to know that other people feel sad too, and that it's okay.
I always felt differently about the relationship between Gerard and the audience he’s addressing in this song. Rather than being disappointed in them or feeling misunderstood as they sing the words back to him, I think “it was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing” is about the heartache he feels in seeing that so many people feel the same way that he does. That they’re “roaring” the words back at him, as if to say they understand. It hurts him that life has caused pain to so many people, the same way it has made him suffer. “And if you think that I’m wrong, this never meant nothing to you”-and if you don’t relate, then this song won’t mean anything to you. It’s for the people who do understand. Gerard has talked a lot about how deeply empathetic he is, and how he’s prone to feeling upset for others before he’s upset for himself. That’s where the basis of my interpretation comes from :)
Wow thank you for explaining this song! When I listened to MCR a lot, I was pretty young and also just couldn't figure out what the songs meant. So it's really interesting to now understand what they meant by some of it. Whether I understood what they intended or not, it was still depressing to me. Thank you for saying that bit at the end of the video about the hotline. I really appreciate that. It's important.
I discovered them recently and still don't know all the words of the songs by heart, but I understand what they want to say (I guess)Like I'm obsessed...
Disenchanted is one of my favourite songs of all time. I've always said that there is a very specific feeling where all you want to do is cry and listen to this on repeat in bed for hours. The song is so dark but at the same time I find it oddly comforting and it got me through a lot of shit in high school
This is the perfect song to lead up to as well as be a natural foil to Famous Last Words. The messages conflict each other in that Disenchanted says "things suck" while Famous Last Words fires back and says "I am not afraid to keep on living". So the message is ultimately things suck, but you can still push through. I've always loved the ending of this album because of that juxtaposition.
I always felt like the following verse was a positive one: It was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing. I wasn't planning to feel that way, but as the thousands of different voices fused into one and my carefully planned words were shouted back at me like nothing else mattered, I realized that we were all the same, nobody left out, none of us alone. It was a lie when they had smiled and said "You won't feel a thing. Go on, get up on that stage and do your job." A lie. In that moment, I felt more alive than ever before.
I love this song so much. It's so sad, depressing, and just plain amazing! I know I'm, err, a lil bit late to comment this, but your breakdowns of songs are PERFECT!
This album came out after I lost my grandfather to cancer. He was the person I was closest to & it's always reminded me of that time in my life. I miss him & struggled with depression & anxiety ever since then. When I'm running on fumes remembering what I've overcome helps me a lot and I hope others who have felt this shitty darkness in their lives also realize that you're so.much stronger than you give yourself credit for.
I listen to sad songs not because it makes me happy but when I can't find anybody who understands a song can tell me I'm not alone that someone somewhere had these thaughts and write a song about so I come back because it just feels good to relate sometimes
The Black Parade is one of my favorite albums of all time. Yes, it's depressing but in the last song, Famous Last Words, there is a very hopeful message.
I'm a Cancer guy (astrological). Trust me man, this song would become even more soooo sad, esp when you have problems with your romantic relationship (disenchanted to her/him). But keep on going guys, you can channel your angry, sadness etc in other productive ways. Life's too short to be wasted in vain.
Disenchanted made me cry it hit close to home for me idk why but the parts "I hate the ending myself but it started with an alright scene""If Im so wrong,How can you listen all night long,Now will it matter after Im gone,Because you never learned a goddamn thing""Your just a sad song, with nothing to say, about a lifelong wait for a hospital stay, and if you think Im wrong,This never meant nothing to ya"I guess I just see the same perspective of Gerard
This for me is like a dialogue of the Patient to her lover (While "I don't love you" is his lover's dialogue to him). It feels like he wants to stop her from staying because he knows it will be hard for her to live alone, carrying on: I Don't Love You (the lover): And when you go, don't ever think I made you try to stay and maybe, when you get back, I'll be off to find another way." Disenchanted: So just go. Just go. But where do you run to? Where do you go to find another way? Also: Will it matter right after I'm gone because you never learned a goddamn thing? --- this goes to show How many times he tried to push her away by him "Going" (about him, "go" as in he went in war as indicated in mama, big bad wolves, and now "go" as in surrender to cancer) like why can't she just quit urging him to stay? In I don't love you, she keeps urging him to keep fighting and not to "go". (So fix your gloves and get up, better get up while you can) (first part of i dont love you could be the time he went to war while the next verses was when he was diagnosed with cancer) Furthermore, in the chorus of disenchanted: You're just a sad song with nothing to say, about a life-long wait for a hospital stay, and if you think I'm wrong, this never meant a thing to you. - it could be implied that she is still there with him despite his worsening condition and he hates to see her in pain because of her still hoping that somehow, he will make it and stay when he knows it will be a miracle for that to happen. what a bummer it is to know you will die and realize nothing really matters, losing the way you perceive things from Seeing your idols as just capitalists to seeing her lover silently hoping for the best (which is metaphorically speaking, a "Sad Song"). Nothing she could say can stop him going home, and she knows it (Yes, it echoes to the Famous last words, which is the last conversation between them as he face death), hence her just being there, silent (A Sad Song with Nothing to Say is how he puts it describing her Silently Hoping He will win the fight against cancer). As he contemplates his life, he felt disenchanted of how it went, hence the title.
Although, i dont think this song is 100% depressing " it was the roar of the crowed that give me heartach to sing" or " ans when we ran from the cops we laughed so hard it would sting " even tho tho the ptiant in the this point is sad and depressed and " disenchented" i think those are the point where he is still.kinda enchented and nostalgic even. " it was the roar of the crowd that gave me heartache to sing" that os a very strong line and it's not negative. He wanted to sing and speak out and express himself .
I don't think he's talking to the listeners, I think he's talking to himself and reflecting back on his life, but anyways this song played back to back with famous last words makes me ball my eyes out with tears of sorrow and then tears of hope.
its kinda liberating that at the end we ALL die...like no matter what we all die...rich, poor black, white, tall,short...its okay we all die...enjoy today friends ❤❤
My chem is really a trip in existentialism. They hate society and its predispositions on values and choices. They also keep this idea that sooner or later we all die; either is by our own doing or someone else’s and their journey of finding their purpose through this fan base and and music making business. Existentialism is really in almost everything they do and its really interesting to take in.
The Logic 1-800 song you wish MCR listened to before releasing Disenchanted came out in 2017, MCR released The Black Parade in 2006. you think they time travelers?

As a socialist I like disenchanted as it reduces my too high naive levels of idealism, I see it as Semi-ironic, too often life bursts my naive agnostic Christian-socialism, and this song gives my life greater meaning in the true free market dog eat dog society that even the best socialist societies can ever be, as of the way humanity and life itself is, I find this song illuminating, and when paired with a idealistic spirit helps me cope better with life, repairing my burst balloons, still being idealistic, but understanding the brutalness of life,

Another reason to add to the "Why I love Mikey way" list. I mean, this is definitely my fav MCR song!
It was actually said that in the middle of the night he would whisper in the other members ears "disenchanted" while they slept lmao
It's Literally my fav mcr's song wtf?
Thanks Mikey! I love this song

BTW, that Car Radio tangent was great XD
Thanks!
MCR makes me happy! They saved my life no lie! I love them!
Gerard is a genius. An introverted geeky genius who likes comics and cats
My brain must be broken. This song relaxes me.
Same! I listen to it on repeat to fall asleep to sometimes!
I find this song something I wanna sleep to, but I don’t sleep with songs that use go**amn cause I’m a Christian, D*mn isn’t that bad, but with god in it, I think it’s bad. And listening to certain things while you sleep affects your thoughts.

I interpreted it as your heroes will have started selling out for money and their art will be a shadow of what it once was
for some reason, this makes me love this song even more because it has meaning and yes, is may be sad but it also shows beauty and truth

Sir, My Chemical Romance in general depresses me
Oh no!
The Pop Song Professor dude it's MCR
IT'S ALMOST MARCH 22ND.
Mood
It makes me feel better. Makes me feel not alone.
I love My Chemical Romance. I know that you think their lyrics depress people, but for me, they kind of comfort me to know that other people feel sad too, and that it's okay.

My favourite song off the album wasn't expecting you to cover this, nice :))
Thank Christian!
This is my favorite song of all the albums. Then it's Thank You for the Venom, and Mama.

The song is so dark but at the same time I find it oddly comforting and it got me through a lot of shit in high school
I like how this video is basically the same length as the actual song. :)
Is It weird that it's still my favorite song of the album and It makes me happy?
This is the perfect song to lead up to as well as be a natural foil to Famous Last Words. The messages conflict each other in that Disenchanted says "things suck" while Famous Last Words fires back and says "I am not afraid to keep on living". So the message is ultimately things suck, but you can still push through. I've always loved the ending of this album because of that juxtaposition.
Even though their songs are sad and depressing they give me so much hope, they make me want to keep on living
Wow thanks for making this video I freaken love mcr ;)

Songs like this actually make me happy in some ways because they show so much support and aren't afraid to address difficult topics
I love this song so much. It's so sad, depressing, and just plain amazing! I know I'm, err, a lil bit late to comment this, but your breakdowns of songs are PERFECT!

Oh my god thank you so much for adding the suicide prevention number at the end some people could need this thank you thank you
I already cry when I listen to it, it can't get much worse..
My father passed away, two weeks ago for cancer, and this song makes all the sense in the world. In fact, some mcr songs makes sense now
"My Chemical Romance is a band with things to say"
Wrong, they make sad songs with nothing to say.
Can you do a song from "A Fever You Can't Sweat Out" please?
Estrella Mendoza yessss
Estrella Mendoza He did I write Sins
it’s about fucc
Yes!!!!!
So many name drops I feel important

If you're already depressed, Disenchanted is comforting in some weird way
When the song is longer then the explanation video... But only by 3 seconds
this song can be dark and sad but somehow it comforts me i love it.
Keep in going, I love your Videos!
At least My Chemical Romance wrote meaningful songs that saved me and a lot of other kids out there! They are my heroes!
This art of music is incredible
MCR just makes me so fucking emotional yet they're my favorite band.I am already depressed either way.
this song was literally the first song that truly made me cry
There is something in my eyes....
ITS CALLED TEARS
Cassie MoonShadow do you know whats behind your eyes?
Lights!!!
Watching this has depressed me more than Disenchanted ever has.... 😂
The Black Parade is one of my favorite albums of all time. Yes, it's depressing but in the last song, Famous Last Words, there is a very hopeful message.
The whole video I was just waiting for his reflection in the window to turn around and look at the camera
That's my favorite song! I always listen to it whenever I feel like crying XD it helps
Now I realise what I probably felt during the mcr emo time...
I'm a Cancer guy (astrological). Trust me man, this song would become even more soooo sad, esp when you have problems with your romantic relationship (disenchanted to her/him).

Also:

Furthermore, in the chorus of disenchanted:
You're just a sad song with nothing to say, about a life-long wait for a hospital stay, and if you think I'm wrong, this never meant a thing to you.
When he said MCR should’ve listened to logic 1-800 song I was like 🤦🏻♂️
i already have depression so watching this shouldn't affect me hehhhhhhhhhh
:(
Can you please do trapdoor
Well, this is my favorite song, in general, but right now I feel weird.
You can also view this as a relationship breaking down.
IT'S ALMOST MARCH 22ND.
"IF YOU SUFFER FROM SUICIDE..."
Random guy: ME!
"Dude.... How are you here?"
Because what is dead may never die.
i know he didnt say that mcr should have listened to 1-800 five years before it came out
Although, i dont think this song is 100% depressing " it was the roar of the crowed that give me heartach to sing" or " ans when we ran from the cops we laughed so hard it would sting " even tho tho the ptiant in the this point is sad and depressed and " disenchented" i think those are the point where he is still.kinda enchented and nostalgic even. Watching someone I love die of cancer has made this song a true release. Cancer sucks! Music is life
I have these thoughts so often I ought to replace that slot with what I once bought
My Chemical Romance - a bunch of poets in our era
its kinda liberating that at the end we ALL die...like no matter what we all die...rich, poor black, white, tall,short...its okay we all die...enjoy today friends ❤❤
The window looks nice
We sing this on graduation 😥😥
If you suffer from suicide, I think it's probably too late to call the hotline.
It is a song all about dreams
My chem is really a trip in existentialism. They hate society and its predispositions on values and choices. They also keep this idea that sooner or later we all die; either is by our own doing or someone else’s and their journey of finding their purpose through this fan base and and music making business. This is my favorite MCR song
4:03 *currently suffering from suicide*
I think this song says a lot about the reason the band broke up and not wanting to be controlled by record labels and the music industry
In one of their live performances, Garard said that this song is about dreams. Until now I couldn’t understand what he meant by that. Could anyone be kind enough to explain to me?
Disenchanted is a sad song with something to say
This deserves more views it’s a really good interpretation
Thanks. :)
Suposedly, Gary dedicated this one to Bert McCracken from The Used.
"I wish that MCR had listened to 1-800-273-8255 before recording Disenchanted." The problem is that Disenchanted predates 1-800-273-8255 by over ten years.
*me bopping to this song at 4am*
You know, the intro already made me sad... :')
This song is fucken daaark.... That’s why it’s my fave song
