3 extra tips - 1 - ISO Auto works better cause when the apperture is not enough it will know and go up just enough to solve the exposure problem and whenever it checks the apperture is enough it goes down, so you only get as grainny pics as it's needed and never above that, I call it the Policeman cause it's constantly assuring effeciency / 2 - You did not suggested exactly what fast speed to use, I would recommend around 1/2000, more would be great (1/3200) but that can pull up the ISO too much / 3 - To avoid big deviations meetering area should not be on dot, but given sometimes the big difference in light from subject to background, centre weighted meetering shall be better than full matrix/evaluative, cheers and keep up the excellent work
Every Nikon and Canon camera should come with a copy of this video to get people started. I figured things out through much trial and error; I'm happy to see I have the right idea.
Simple and fast tips to execute as I head out the door to watch my son play football! The test at home seemed to work so I am excited for tonight's game.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love taking pics of my kids games and I didn’t know how to use my camera. Tomorrow morning I’m trying all these tips for my daughters soccer semi finals game. Appreciate it so much!
I think you Rock, I just bought a Canon rebel T7 and had no idea how to use it, I had looked at other videos and they talk so fast and they move their fingers in the camera so fast I will start keeping up with them. You make this look easy in your comfortable in your reach out to your customer and you know how to show the camera and you are patient you’re my kind of teacher I liked your style. Great work! Hopefully I will be taking wildlife pictures and of my dogs and so forth someday I’ll be good as youWith your help. God bless
Brilliant video. Total amateur here, with a great interest in sports photography. This was so well explained. Looking forward to going through other tips. Cheers.
Again Paul, another great video... I visited my local auto race track and tried to get pics of race cars on the track... My results were horrible... lol... It’s mid January and now I cannot wait for the race season to begin so I can get the pics I have wanted for so long... Thank you so very much...
No problem Wayne, thanks for watching - please let me know how you go when race season begins and you get the chance to try these techniques out. Paul.
I can't thank you enough for very informative videos. I am new to using my camera Nikon D3500 and your videos have helped me with settings that I have/had no clue about. Thank you so much!
Great video. The same method I tried for capturing birds. Really happy that I did correct one that you described. Initialy I was manual mode. But very hard to handle. Later I changed ISO settings to Auto ISO. Just keep adjusting my shutter only. Another great video. Thanks for making this video sir. Have a great day.
Subscribed, shared, liked. Hands down the most educational video Ive seen since I got into photography. Am someone who likes to take pictures of nature, and this is really something helpful. A BIG BIG THANK YOU.
Thank you. This is an encouraging video. Specially those who haven't a costly range of cameras. Budding photographers should see it. Thanks once again.
So I can see where single point AF would be great when you are focusing on one person/player. I am photographing a marching band. I want a large part of the field to be in focus. What setting would you use to accomplish this? I am using the Canon 80D with the Tamron 18-400 lens. The next event will be a 6 pm game so under the lights on the football field. Thanks
Thank you for this great explanation! Helped me immensely. What is the best shutter speed (I have a canon). I assume 1/4000 would be the quickest but I saw yours on 1/800?
"What is the best shutter speed" is one of the questions I get asked, I've made a video all about it that will answer your question full, here's the link and I hope you enjoy it : th-cam.com/video/98J200KEPog/w-d-xo.html Best wishes
Thank you, new subscription and like from me. If only I saw this video before my ski trip, but with some pre-focusing I managed to capture my jumps. Thus, I have a question: If it wasn't 'burst' mode, how would you actually take shots in focus? As I understand, half finger is focusing (continuous mode). If you want to take 2 or more photos, (e.g. 2 clicks when I really want) you would need to release and click again which would result losing it? Am I right? I guess this can be solved with assigning another button a focus option, but the beat solution would be what you had said - burst mode which I did not know to set on my camera :/. Thank you, now I am just interested in your response even though in your video you told a solution.
Thanks I just started learning about how to pics of sports of my grandkids. I have a cannon rebel t6. Just want to know what is the best telephoto lens I can get for my camera without breaking the break…any help would be grateful…thanks
I'm just about to get started in sports photography. This video is gold for beginners. I was on the fence about which camera to buy, as well. Thanks to this video the settings in Nikon make more sense to me. I no know that. Thank you!
First! E: Muahaha 😁😂 Very good update on your previous video about shooting moving objects 👍 Luckily one of my tripod legs unscrews to make a monopod; haven't found use for it yet but I bet it'll come in handy. Great tips! I hope to try them out later this year during some local sports activities :D Keep up the good work Paul!
Thank you so much for the amazing info I am using Canon 1200d and I have set it on TV mode and did exactly what u did , however the pictures are very dark and f value never shows Please tell me what I might have done wrong
Awesome! Straight to the point! Every video that you produce is easy to follow + understand - I now never follow anyone else's video's because you are the master Paul. After watching your video(s), I finally got around to taking moving subjects with your sugested camera settings on my Nikon D5000. Virtually every shot that I took (141) turned out almost perfect with very little editing in PS. Keep-up the good work Paul. Many thanks for sharing!
Thanks Joe - great to hear the tips are working and you are getting some great images. Really appreciate the feedback and support for my channel. Paul @ Photo Genius 👍
I'm in love with your Chanel. So good that you share your knowledge with us (I feel bless each time you release a video). I'm learning so much from you. Thanks a lot.
Since I upgraded my camera to that of one that is a point & shoot with capabilities of a DSLR, I can better quality sports photos. I am sports photographer, albeit motor racing. Thank you very much... I have embarked into sports photography and videography for our daughters volleyball team (indoors). at present I have a D3000...we use the iPad for the video...the video is used to recruiting (as are the photos) and for Hudl. Due to inflation; the cost of camera equipment has skyrocketed.. so upgrading even to a Sony ZV-E10 off ebay is unlikely... So I'm trying to maximize what I have
Thank you so much for this video!! Straight to the point, easy to understand. Starting professional photography and I'm shooting a workout this sunday and this will help me a lot! THANKS!
I really like, the way you explain... cuz i really understand... you explain so simple... 😁👍 and there’s something i wanna ask about... if i would take a sports settings like that... does the settings of the lens would be remain manual focus or auto focus?
Lots of good tips like your other videos. I especially like that you speak slowly for us beginners. One suggestion - I like the videos where you show your final work with the settings in the pic. Thanks.
what cameras were you using in this video? i’m a beginner and i want to do sports photography. were the cameras in this video the ones you used for the pictures in this video? and....what cameras would you recommend to get quality pictures under $1000?
Very concise and great info. I would have generally known this but good to get a refresher course as I'm shooting a few pics today. Maybe you could have touched on how weather conditions affect shooting. Bright sunshine or a dull day. But I guess the camera will adjust and 'talk' to you. And also your position. I'm assuming you would always try have the sun behind you. But this makes the subject very bright....
OK THANKS FOR THE EXPLANATION BECAUSE I WAS THINKING THAT ONLY COSTLY CAMERAS HAS A CONTINUOUS SHOOTING ABILITY, BUT NOW I GOT THIS IDEA SO I CAN NOW DO A GOOD OR AWSOME MOVING BIRDS OR ANIMALS PHOTOGRAPHY, AND I WILL FORGET ALL OF THE COSTLY CAMERAS I WISHED TO BUY
Thanks a lot, sir. You give me what I need. This sudden job of shooting footbal match is stressing me out. You've helped me with this wonderful tips. One thumbs up and subs for you
Learning with the Rebel T7. Taking lots of sports photos with my son’s soccer team. Some games at night on the soccer fields- very bright lights. Can’t seem to get the pictures to come out looking quite right. Suggestions? I’m totally new to the camera world.
May I suggest a fast shutter speed - try 1/500 of a second as a minimum, if your son is older and the game is faster then try to get covert to 1/000. Aperture wide open (lowest f number) and just the ISO accordingly. If the light is good then hopefully you won't need to push the ISO too far, if however the light is not so good then increase ISO to help maintain a faster shutter speed.
@@photogenius Paul thanks so much...one more quick question, I have found that single point focus is working pretty well for me but in what situation would AF area mode be beneficial? thanks so much
Hi about to upgrade to my first DSLR, mainly going to be taking action photos of my daughters netball and horse riding tossing up between the canon 800d and the Nikon 5600 which would you recommend
To be honest either of these cameras would be good, in fact they ate almost identical in terms of specifications. I would go for the Nikon only because it has 39 focus points versus 19 on the Canon. Thanks for watching.
Thanks so much for the concise coverage of setting up the Nikon for sports photography! Mine is a little different (d5000) but I was able to get it done because of your explanation of what & why.
