  • Join me in the studio in this relaxing wet-felting exploration where I create felt art on the fly using materials from my stash! What challenges will I run into? What mistakes will I make and what new techniques will I discover? Learn what to do and what not to do as I work through felt-making ebbs and flows.
    ♥ Hi, my name is Lori and my goal is to teach, inspire and live off the land in style by knitting my own clothes, creating essential survival items and living luxuriously warm, dyeing fibre using bright acid colours and occasionally plants, fungi, muck and mud.
    When I began wet felting 10 years ago, there were only a few basic tutorials. On this channel, I want to share everything I know so so that you can easily begin upgrading your craft by creating remarkable fibre art more quickly. From illustrative conceptual ideas into beautiful creative work that is ready to repeat quickly using minimal tools and resources.

    This is a beautiful piece and I love the others that you show at the end, too. I can totally relate to having SOOOO many ideas and having a hard time picking what to do. Your ideas for specialty felt sewed to a garment are absolute gold...bits sewn to the shoulders or the slash on the sleeve. I'll be looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Thanks for taking the time to do this video.

      Yes! The felt sewn in or knitted into a garment is a vision I have yet to try. It will definitely be a video once I get to it! Thank you so much for watching and your comment is helpful and encouraging.

      Yah, I’ve always wanted to find my style and stick to a few techniques and improve on them. It took quite some time to figure it out! Definitely testing out my favourite techniques several times over the years helped me so much. 💜

    Yay!… someone like me….Now I know It’s not just me….I’m challenge with focusing because of so many ideas….,

    • @muffsmerino
      @muffsmerino  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's definitely not just you haha! Over time I have narrowed it down to textiles and lately I have much more clarity with the knitwear (and TH-cam I want to continue). I think focus might take practice (through my experience as I realise this right now lol)... that is if you were someone who wanted to have more focus. It's been a life long challenge for me because of the boundless ideas. I used to call it taming my horse. So I continue to tame bit by bit. :)
      You're not alone!

      @@muffsmerino indeed…fibre art…is boundless….after taking over a spare bedroom room, half the dining and lounge rooms I had to focus and cull, my house had become the whole craft room and it was embarrassing. I’m a work in progress. I’ve settled on felting. I love dyeing silks, and locks. But when $$$ and a bigger house with a whole level dedicated to my craft I will get into spinning…I love art batts. So big chunky yarns made from my art batts…then incorporate into my felting projects…so delish! I love it! I love your channel. I’m a new sub from across the waters in Australia

    • @muffsmerino
      @muffsmerino  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@casscass1778 oh 👋 to Australia! I love it there so much. Lol yes the amount of mohair and yarn fuzz all over the place, I concur on the over taking of house. A cats dream. I have not worked with batts before, but I do have a blending board to make rolags…This is an entire other exciting fibre adventure. If I ever have time! love spinning so much. Seems like not enough time for all this fibre fun 😆

      @muffsmerino  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I should definitely show more finished items... you may have inspired me to incorporate more of the techniques into finished felt projects. I am more often experimenting or giving away the felt items I do make... but the idea of create new projects does excite me! I have recently posted a scarf video, where I do a quick run through of dyeing before felting it, but its not a specific scarf dyeing tutorial. I will make one though!

    Great video! I have never felted before and was going to make a jacket as my first project. 🤣 I think I will start small instead. I enjoy seeing the artist at work. Twinkling hand videos are not my favorite.

    • @muffsmerino
      @muffsmerino  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am so glad to hear your aspiration to start big! I am sure you will pick it up quickly and make the jacket in no time. I do think experiment making 10 or so small test pieces of felt using techniques you want apply on your jacket. Then make one or two small resist based pieces of felt to see how your materials shrink around the resist :)
      I am also thinking resist based templates for different shapes would be so handy! I would love to see how your jacket turns out!

    how do you get the sparkles to stick to the felt?

    • @muffsmerino
      @muffsmerino  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! first the fibre is laid out, then wetted and flattened. I will then add the sparkles, beads or anything else I would like on top of the fibre. Then lay my fabric on top (trapping) the sparkles, beads between the fibre and fabric etc. The fine nylon mesh works best, but tightly woven transparent silks also work. Then wet felt the project :) Definitely one of my favourite techniques!
