Definitely a game where you guys decided the game was over too soon. There was still so much left on the board at round 3. Games can shift drastically in the second half, even if you feel like you're on the back foot.
oh my god you look great Matt, I've been out of the hobby for about 8 years started getting into it again and watched older (lower resolution videos) and this is my first one from 2020 with HD and you're looking really healthy! I think last time I watched you'd just started doing jogging/long walks for the chats!
For a very long time 5-7 endless spells was a common thing. Because players were using them to literally just deny the field, because you can't move through them, and they can end up within 1" of an enemy model. So basically someone would build a wall of spells, to stop players from actually playing the game.
Steve: "I play this force so I can run forward and smash your face. BUT!" Matt: "If you run forward, you might not be able to smash my face?" Steve: "Yeah." Me: "So you're gonna wait for him to run forward, THEN smash his face? I like it."
Sometimes I think they concede too early sometimes so I'm glad they kept going this time. these games can swing so much but I guess that's dice games for you.
They didn't keep it going, he conceded and they decided that Steve wouldn't take the double and let Matthew go instead... Kinda lame, would much rather just have a shorter game (or better yet, play it out?) I'm pretty confident he wouldn't be able to fit 3 trolls within the objective while keeping out of 3" of every Stormcast.
@@TheRealThirdME whats lame? He won, so they continued the game to see if things would happen differently if the double turn hadn't happened. Sometimes its fun to do things just for fun.
I'm loving the classic rock trolls being represented. I use the old metal Kroq Gar as a carnosaur, just had to build up the base to the same height. The size difference is crazy.
I enjoyed it being played out after the concede, to demonstrate some units that hadn't gotten a chance to showcase their abilities. As well as showing different tactical choices and me being able to learn by watching them. Thank you.
Loved this game. I know you're worried about people getting upset with the concedes, but as a more casual viewer I thought you two arguing over them was absolutely hilarious. I can see for people who play it more seriously to care about that, but my favorite battle reports are just when it seems like you guys are having fun, and this was one of them.
I'm not sure what you mean by your self deprecation, but yeah, it's a super fun game with a great community. I used to play at least once a week before Covid and I've been sad I haven't been able to play it in months!
Matt and I had a draw back in October/November. My sylvaneth against the new Ogres in relocation orb. Came down to kill points within 1 unit of each other that he got the minor victory.
This was really interesting. Some times I don’t like the consessions but others I like them. Sometimes it may seem hopeless but still can make a comeback and vice versa. Honestly though if it was at the end of the day on Friday and you guys are tired yeah I can understand the chaos and wanting to be done.
I think if Steve played the dabble turn then he would of clearly won. I for one hate the dabble turn mechanic so i'm glad you guys did it the way you did. Also this was a fun bat rap to watch and I love the part when Steve just walked off lol
love the table and you guys. great energy. ( i think u need to get a camera man though and use stable go pro cuz some times it was blurry and shaky ) but I'm just being picky. respect !
Troggoths with assassinate as an Auxiliary objective makes me think of the hobbit book when the trolls sneak up on ease dwarf as they attempt to get to the campsite and bag them. Thats what I imagine is going to happen during this battle, and it's going to be hysterical.
There will always be a soft spot in my heart for Stormcast. I can't help it. Plus, they're so much more interesting since Soul Wars. Assuming the double turn didn't happen, I do think you should have played it out, because you never know. I understand why you wouldn't though, since it really did look obvious that it was over several times. Bah, dice games amirite?
Kinda can't wait to see the Troll list with the new White Dwarf Sub-Faction and Battalion. It's a fun little list with some trolly (pun most definitely intended) rules and whatall that can cause them to play much better
here auxiliary detachments got more use in tournaments. those are used to give more granulation than win/loss to tournament scores. So you get points for tournament score for every auxiliary you score and those you deny opponent. This way you can have anything from 10-10 to 20-0. 16-4, 17-3, 18-2 also possible etc. So secondaries actually matter for tournament ranking quite a lot(for example last one I took I was 9th but with maxed secondaries I could have been even 4th)
I like it when games are played through. The dice are just so great at creating openings for the underdog to exploit, especially when a statistically guaranteed beatdown turns into a wet fart underwater. It irks me when a game is called at the end of turn 2 when each player still has a decent chunk of their army on the board because there's just so much that can still happen! But hey, I'm not spending a minimum of 8 hours thematically setting up, playing, and editing a game to entertain the voracious masses demanding a regular upload schedule. I just show up to a store once or twice a week, toss some stuff on a table, and go grab a Hot Pocket from 7-11 while my opponent checks out how his girlfriend is doing over at the FNM tables. So while it bothers me to see so many reports end in an early concede, I can see why ya do it. I still enjoy watching these either way.
A big difference is that missions go 5 rounds, or until the time limit is complete. Which actually means running down the clock is possible, but also that scoring might not always be as run-away. I'm curious to see how things go down this year.
good game good battle report thanks. in the future when this pandemic thing calm down could you do an aos siege or a thriumph and treachery battle report please
Just watched it. Overall seems fun. Your lord Arcanum when fighting the gargant didn't charge though. Dunno if it was mentioned yet, or if it will be seen.
A big part of pre chosing the realm you lose that it's a tactical choice !!! Each player rolls off and the winner PICKS the realm! so for example a melee army could counter a Shooty army by picking realm of Shadow, and thus making all terrain Overgrown blocking LoS! BUT I agree it looks nice.
I totally agree. However, we like to build thematic tables, and then choose a realm that fits that look. If there is more than one option, we pick the one that looks the most fun. You can do it however you like though.
On the subject of Realm-lords, got my box on the way! Should be here in a few days :D Kinda wish there was more to get at the moment than the starter box, but if nothing else that means I can take an escalation league style approach to building the army.
Hi. Nice video. I am learning to play A.O.S. and this has helped some. Apart from the rule changes from 2.0 to 3.0. I do have a couple of questions. 1) Is there a reason that you didn't dispel and then recast the Comet of the Everblaze? Also, have the rules changed around the mortal wounds that it dishes out? It just seemed that a dispel in your opponent's hero phase to recast in your own might have swung the game had you dropped it on an objective. 2) I appreciate that you forgot about the ability of your General (automatic one wound heal) but you also seem to ignore the Blaze of Glory exploding 6's. Is this a straight up choice or due to the statistical likelihood of it going off? I know its only a 16.7% chance of going off. (I also realise that there was a change to B.O.G. meaning that it isn't just Thunderstrike units that get the ability in 3.0). 3) Do you think your General's ability to insta-heal one wound for a slain model in 12" will double up with Yndrasta's ability to return slain models? I kind of think it will. (I am still learning to play so there are still bits I get confused on.) 4) Do you miss the 3 removed Spells from SCE? The lore of Invigoration is practically gone which means the Invocators only get one spell - empower. 5) Would Vandus Hammerhand not have changed the play with his 24" Battleshovk immunity?
I like the models but is there any reason to play age of sigmar? GW quite supporting fantasy and I'm not getting screwed a second time? I want to play but how do we know they won't do it again?
Evocators are pretty powerful. Casters with that many attacks, wounds, and who can kick out Mortal Wounds? And those Ballistae can be lethal. I guess against a huge Monster list they aren't as powerful. I will say that I don't care for how AoS games can be over by turn 3 pretty easily. Thanks for the BatRep and another Trollish victory! :)
I agree. They’re “example setups” in their books have at most half as much terrain as what we use. I just love playing with lots of good looking terrain!
@@miniwargaming I agree the boards you guys use look awesome it is just the realization of the number of rules that deal with either not placing stuff close to terrain or making terrain hurt you are not designed with terrain heavy boards which sadly they should at least have something for boards with more terrain
There's only 3 units available for the faction right now and only through an expensive limited box. I think it will have to wait until late 2020 for the models to be released fully and then to be painted :(
Steve couldn't re-roll charge by Dankhold Troggoth as he is not a Hero nor there was a hero within 6" of this model. Small thing, but still keep in mind for future games ;)
"Can't do multiple ignore wounds rolls" *Looks at Verminlord Warpseer with his base 5+ ignore, the artifact that gives him a 5+ ignore, and the warlord trait that gives him a 5+ ignore at the cost of nearby units.* Well, that's unfortunate
Aye, so normal Dankholds got a price decrease? I love the model more than the boss, so I am glad that he got a discount. Once things are open he will reach the table again!
I have found that i get "draws" more in path to glory campaigns than anything else. not saying ive had a lot but ive had at least 2 in path to glory stuff
I personally am a big for the greater good tau player but I LOVE age of sigmar and probably would have gotten into it had my friends not already been playing warhammer
Great video guys. Can I ask someone to explain how Prayers work? (yes I know you didnt deal with them in this video, but I am having trouble finding this information and thought it cant hurt to ask here). How many Prayers can a Priest do per turn? How many Prayers do you get to give your Priest from the options available to your faction?(Prayers of the Stormhost for example, do your Priests always have all 6 available for to them or do you choose 1 per Priest pre-battle?) Can a Priest move/charge/attack/etc in the same turn it makes a Prayer attempt in? Its the only aspect of the game eluding me and an explanation would be much much appreciated.
This varies slightly from army to army, so you need to read the rules closely on your priests and in the prayers section of your book. For the most part (but not always), priests know the prayer(s) on their warscroll plus one from the general list.
Steve some day Ill get my spells painted and bring the 13 endless spell gloomspite list and you can run the Seraphon and we can laugh at the restriction.
I'm still here! Been working at home doing a lot of painting for the studio, writing articles, and Facebook stuff! I'll get in to do batreps eventually :)
Glad to see mollog dropped, only reason for him in Troggoth army is for fluff, but he is better in Squig and Grot swarm armies, as he doesn’t cost as much as the Troggboss and provides the reassuring presence bonus still with a good bit of durability.
Answering very early into the video but I have had more than a few games end in a draw, especially during objective based games. Our last game of Triumph and Treachery was a tie between the two players and that was just last weekend.
What's the issue? No one used Realm Artifacts. Hell Steve apparently didnt even give his second artifact to someone (at least never said it in the list rundown). What you think is a realm artifact is also the Tempest Lord specific artifact that acts exactly like the Aetherquartz Amulet (it's called the Patricans Helm). Matt did literally nothing wrong (besides his normal let's not just play the game -the thing his company is paid to do through the Vault- and try to call it ahead).
Your Knight Incantor could have popped her flasks at start of combat instead of just dying! could potentially have done 3 mortal wounds to the troggoths and 3 to the giant, so he'd only been at 1 wound left.
It's so weird that you dismiss the bad moon rule so much. It's absolutely integral when I play gitz. Granted, I use boingrots and manglers, and the run+charge is key. But the mortal wounds for spiders, the free 1d3 mortal wounds, the DOUBLE regeneration for troggoths (relevant in troggoth fluffy lists), free CP, -1 to enemy casting and +1 to friendly casting...FOR FREE. I don't know, I don't think you should disregard it.
I think all of those abilities sound great, but in the 15-20 games I’ve played with it, it’s never gone where I’ve needed it to be. Even when it finally did, it happened on a turn where it didn’t matter as much. So yes, it CAN be helpful, but it is so unpredictable that you can’t rely on it at all when determining your strategy.
@@miniwargaming how it is unpredictable to roll 2+? And the loonking allows you to control it directly. Just make the moon rise from the side you wanna attack and in turn 2 it's gonna affect that quarter of the table or the whole table on a 6. 1/6 times it will stay still for a turn if you dont have the king, but it will happen in turn 3 then. I put my wizards and general in that table quarter and 5/6 times get free CP, casting bonuses and run+charge (mangler charging from 20+ inches away? Yes please). Recently I started using the loonking too, so it's a sure deal (generating a TON of CPs each turn and granting me a +2 total to casting)
@Qwerty Sure. Here you go. I used this list to win three local tournaments. It's not fully optimized: you could change the rockguts+gargant for a Mangler Squig or some screening unit and a battalion (I use them because I love the miniatures and painted them) Allegiance: Gloomspite Gitz Loonboss on Mangler Squigs (280) - Artefact: The Clammy cowl Skragrott, The Loonking (220) - General - Lore of the Moonclans: The Hand of Gork Fungoid Cave-Shaman (90) 20 x Shootas (120) - 3x Barbed Nets - 1x Moonclan Flag Bearers 40 x Stabbas (260) - Pokin Spears & Moon Shields - 6x Barbed Nets - 1x Moonclan Flag Bearers - 1x Badmoon Icon Bearers 12 x Squig Herd (140) 10 x Boingrot Bounderz (200) 10 x Boingrot Bounderz (200) 5 x Loonsmasha Fanatics (140) 3 x Rockgut Troggoths (140) Aleguzzler Gargant (160) Scrapskuttle's Arachnacauldron (40) Total: 1990 / 2000 Extra Command Points: 0 Allies: 0 / 400 Wounds: 175
GW needed something to balance the random you-go-I-go lottery. They created Endless Spells. They noticed people didn't play too much of them, 'cose they had a habit of bouncing in your face. They made them in a way that they either didn't harm you, your opponent couldn't even control them or they were just bat sheit crazy powerful and/or your faction made them all superpowerful, OR all those combined. Then "surprisingly" people started using Endless Spells. 'Cose why the heck wouldn't you use a powerful beatstick your opponent usually is very ill-equipped to handle or if they do it will cost them valuable castings and you just get to control them because GW-smoit? So now GW had to limit them, because even if they actually understood that they broke their own system, they're far too invested in different factions having their super-cheesy-no-you-can't-touchy-they're-mine Endless to nerf all of them. So they just have to tell people not to bring them.
I actually agree. It feels like they tried them and then immediately abandoned the concept for something else that looked similar, but plays totally different (such as Judgements of Khorne and Magmic Invocations). I wish they introduced more rules that gave advantages to the second player.
"This is about a *moral* victory."
"Well you lost that one too so that sucks. That's twice in one game."
Lmfao Steve

There's only 3 units available for the faction right now and only through an expensive limited box. I think it will have to wait until late 2020 for the models to be released fully and then to be painted :(
We are working on painting up that box set, after which we’ll show them off in a smaller battle report.
@@miniwargaming cool thank you so much for letting me know. I bought the box set as my first AOS army so would love to see them in play
That trogg army is basically the same as what I bring apart from the grots
How did you make those wonderful trees?
Did Matt hit on 4s with cellistar ballista? Pretty certain it’s 5s. Did I miss a plus one buff?
The Lord Ordinator gives a +1 buff.
Steve couldn't re-roll charge by Dankhold Troggoth as he is not a Hero nor there was a hero within 6" of this model. Small thing, but still keep in mind for future games ;)
Hey which game mat do you use and where is the terrain coming from? All self build or is there anyone manufacturing it?
Only youtube channel where I never skip the ads, just because I know that helps increase £'s per 1000 views. Doing my miniscule part ha
They get paid even if you skip, as long as the 7 second minimum is watched.
who did the terrain pieces?
Edit: I was right. The Badmoon Loonshrine wasn’t used once! That could’ve been 3 felwater then another 3 rockgut returned!
Pretty sure he can only do a regular save, and then a shrug.
Really enjoyable report guys.
Aye, so normal Dankholds got a price decrease? I love the model more than the boss, so I am glad that he got a discount. Once things are open he will reach the table again!
Yes technically, but just 10 points, so not much.
Upcoming Gitz tome update:
“Just having The Bad Moon on the table allows you to blow raspberries without being judged.”
Great game guys!!! lots of fun.
I haven't seen Vito for awhile - is he still with MWG?
Probably
I'm still here! Been working at home doing a lot of painting for the studio, writing articles, and Facebook stuff! I'll get in to do batreps eventually :)
@@vitovarano5171 Great to hear. Was a bit worried about that too.
@@vitovarano5171 thats good to hear man. Thanks for replying
vito varano who let you out of your cage?! Get back in there and paint!
Glad to see mollog dropped, only reason for him in Troggoth army is for fluff, but he is better in Squig and Grot swarm armies, as he doesn’t cost as much as the Troggboss and provides the reassuring presence bonus still with a good bit of durability.
Great to see some Troggoths! Welcome to Troll Country
i was surprised Tzeetch demons, kharadron overlords, and orruks had no changes in this generals handbook.
Books are too new. They are supposed to have PDF releases if their points actually change.
Nice board. Hello from France ;)
Answering very early into the video but I have had more than a few games end in a draw, especially during objective based games. Our last game of Triumph and Treachery was a tie between the two players and that was just last weekend.
I have never had it happen in Aos, or in the last couple of editions of 40k.
Is this kage748?
Thanks for the closeup on snot. I totally wans't eating at that moment.
Lmao same, made my quesadilla a lot less appetizing
amusing battle report but i think you shouldnt concede unless your going to let it count.....but still a good one to watch
Τhat snot giant was awesome!!
59:07, Rockgut Troggoths got dmg3 on their attacks ;) you assigned only dmg2 / piece, they should have killed 2 more stormcast over there!
We caught that later and adjusted accordingly.
@@miniwargaming you did twice the attacks with them still though
The endless spell thing probably has to with CoS there was a list that took like 8 spells and was really good
That is a really good stormcast army
20 min in........ Game has yet to start. God Damn Mathew talks a LOT.
Malign sorcery’s artefacts haa been banned for matched games in GHB 2020. Be careful with rules pls))
Yep, only the new realm artifacts are the Matched Play legal ones now.
@Alec Holland sucks to be Cities of Sigmar, they're locked to Realms already and have about 3 artifacts in their book per city.
@@sirbobulous however with the new custom hero rules, they can do a lot of fun things.
I mean give em some leeway, the book's not even a week old.
Rockguts feels a bit lackluster i think. For their points they should have at least a 4+ save and 3 attacks.
seraphon endless spells was making me consider getting into AOS good thing i waited so that's one investment i no longer want to commit to.
I thought Evocators can’t cast Arcane Bolt?
They can’t, and they didn’t. I only cast it with the Lord Arcanum.
Ah my bad. Sorry, thought the evocators casted it at the start. Looking forward to more battle reports.
This terrain is gorgeous.
Wait a troll army but the picture is a Goblin?
The picture is for Gloomspite Gitz. :)
@@miniwargaming Ah
Your Knight Incantor could have popped her flasks at start of combat instead of just dying! could potentially have done 3 mortal wounds to the troggoths and 3 to the giant, so he'd only been at 1 wound left.
I thought about that, and then forgot... ;)
It's not fully optimized: you could change the rockguts+gargant for a Mangler Squig or some screening unit and a battalion (I use them because I love the miniatures and painted them)

Lol no, but it sure felt like it!
Beautiful
Matt almost fell for that opening ploy. Steve is a master bater.
Baiter
What?
That's some nice terrain! Why don't we get cool terrain like this on 40k games..
where is vito?
He’s been busy painting up models for 9th edition and creating articles for our website. You will still see him in videos. :)
