- Just like his United States namesake, Butterbean is one of the real entertainers in Brophy's troupe and rarely goes the distance in a fight. He dispensed of his first opponent quickly, so he was matched with a volunteer from the crowd. It was obvious immediately that his opponent was a man who was obviously fiercely determined to win. Unfortunately for Butterbean, on this night, he was on the wrong side of the stoppage. You'll enjoy this one people!

And I’m proud to say that my Dad used to fight in this tent, every one calls him cowboy and Fred himself said to me that he was one of the best fighters to ever go though this tent.Sadly Dad died last year in November but he lived a happy life

"Cowboy" and his brother Col "the Butcher" would arguably be the best boxers that Fred has ever had in the tent. Cowboy 🤠 had a larrikin style and personality that caused people to love him. I had great respect for him and he will always be number 1. Sadly I didn't get any videos of him, but there are many on TH-cam to watch. I have a section dedicated to his tent fights. Cowboy and Mal Forno will now be swapping boxing yarns in heaven! RIP 2 of nature's special gentlemen 🙏 Forever loved and missed ❤️

You have to admire the gentlemanly restraint that the second opponent used when he held back at 4:50. Confidence can get you along way.
Yes, the second contestant could have knocked our Buttertub at that moment had he wanted to. It was pleasing to see the restraint.

Quality first fight, first he sucker punches the guy in the head at the start, then punches him in the balls while he is down. I get that this isn't pro fighting but I know street fighters who wouldn't do that shit. Happy to see the 2nd guy take it to him

@fartpoobox ohyeah after you touch gloves its customary to step back and square up before you start fighting and the ref is supposed to make sure that happens, he intentionally used the touching of gloves as a distraction to sucker punch the guy, he is a fucking cheater and pussy in my eyes if he can't fight fair he shouldn't be there.

It gives any average joe blow a chance to scrap it out. Fred who you see refereeing owns two or three pubs. His parents were trapeze performers in a circus. I would've loved to be there to watch this. Real entertainment where everyone has a good time and no one gets bloodied. That second guy was having a lot of fun beating on Butterbean, but Butterbean was one right punch away from putting his lights out. All other fighting I see is serious; this was some good old-fashioned fun, two hillbillies punching each other with no bad blood. Good stuff.

They used to be a pretty good exhibition years ago , but sadly have lost its glamour.
My Grandfather at the age of 16 in 1914 , boxed his way from Fremantle Western Australia to South Australia , then Broken Hill, New South wales,
Was a union delegate at one of the the major strikes in 1922 and he went to Adelaide south Australia and boxed in the Kings Stadium as well as training other boxers.
He trained my dad , in a miners cottage with a wood stove burning at dad's back.
You learnt to come forward very quickly

Well it depends on the rules. After all this doesn't look like a sanctioned WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, or any of the other organized licensed associations. So who knows if that was even a cheap shot according to their current rules. My guess it wasn't because the ref started a countdown. These tent fights have been going on since I was a boy in the 60's. They would travel the length and breadth of Australia to all the Carnivals and country fairs. Most of the time the they would have a house fighter that was an Aboriginal guy that knew how to box and would take them on one after the other. Great memories.
