    Great video! I’m currently nursing a Madame Jeanette plant to maturity to get some fresh seeds to try some crossing experiments. I picked the original pepper myself while in Suriname so it’s a bit of a legacy/project thing!

    This year I'm trying to cross Cayenne x Giant Habanero White and the one I'm the most excited about is Bell Pepper x Red Savina.
    Hopefully the they will bloom at the same time so I am able to collect pollen and cross breed them.

    • @FarmerGeorge

      I'm just curious if you have an update on the Bell-Savina? If it produced a giant pod with thick walls and Savina like heat and flavor, that would be a dream come true for hot sauce makers!

    Good video! The F0 as you call it is also called the parent plant or parental generation among many botanists or even simpler... the P generation. The f1 seed as you mentioned is found within the parental generations fruit you pollinated with your pollen donor. I've made a few crosses with both Jalapeno and Poblano genetics myself. A quick google search for Greg Mendel and the words parental generation and filial generation should bring up a lot of that information. Great video by the way and thanks for sharing!

    • @ericknight69
      @ericknight69 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@chillibrotherspimentas denoting the generation or generations after the parental generation. Filial1 would be the first generation after the Parental cross P1 x P2 equals f1, f1 x f1 equals f2 and so on.

    • @FarmerGeorge

      I don’t have a TH-cam video but I use rooting solution and water - following the instructions on the bottle and that works well if the cutting has leaves and it is in a sunny spot

    Does it matter which way your cross your plants, or does it make a difference which is the "papa" plant? In other words, will WxY make a different variety than YxW, and if so, why? By this, let's say I want to cross a giant sweet bell with a small hot. Will one way give a larger hot pepper, and the other make a smaller, sweeter hot?

    • @MH-wz1rb
      @MH-wz1rb 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In theory they should be the same but if they are different species like chinensis vs annum they can be a little different because the genes don't pair up quite right, but that is a bit suspect of an explanation. Some plants may still have some heterozygous genes left as well.
      Two of the same species will generally not matter which way you go except the part where the fruit has to grow on one plant and that plant might be way more likely to drop the fruit.
      In my pairing of two different annum cultivars, one parent has dropped the cross every time and the other one has 7 of them set and about to start ripening.
