Lorelai's outburst didn't come out of nowhere. After months of Luke ignoring Lorelei & not including her in his life (with April) then calling off the wedding, Lorelei was upset. Plus, Luke at this point still never even introduced her to April. All he does for the first 2/3 of this episode is whine & tear down Logan who is actually trying to connect with him. Then after saying he's committed to Lorelei he can't even commit to a proper wedding or even tries to introduce her to his daughter. It's messed up.
How is this fair? When she asked for things to be right between her and Rory Luke waited. Patiently. When he asked for time with April lor give him ultimatums... How's about a little equality here?

Asking for a little time does not mean months and especially if she is supposed to become April's stepmother. Lorelai did nothing wrong here at all. She did other things wrong in lying and bad communication overall, but this is on Luke entirely.

Bad in a relationship? Sure. But that is how he is. If she can't handle it, they're not compatible. Saying "this is not how adults should act" presumes that every person is the same and is able to hanle things similarly. That's just not how life works.

From lying and not talking for MONTHS about his daughter, even though he was engaged and planned to spend the rest of his life with her, to just go and buy a house without telling her. You can simply not marry a person who doesn't communicate the most important things to you is what I am saying. There was no back and forth with Lorelai. He knew what he was in for, it just took him forever to come around and then he chickened out comletely and there is no excuse for it.

The first time she received REAL criticism she dropped out of college & dropped the career she's dreamed of for years. Being her own person would have been her working that much harder to prove his a** wrong. Dropping out just proved he was RIGHT.

The chemistry between Luke and Lorelei in the beginning was so sweet and I was definitely rooting for them. I knew the show would take their time to put them together, but they took waaay too long that by the time they did get together I was kind of over it. Also, their relationship before they got together was soooo much better then when they did. It ruined it for me.
Yea, hes the guy who got Rory in trouble and landed her in jail as per what he knows. And luke warms up to Logan, when he gets to know him this episode.
Not everyone does the "Valentine's" thing. She didn't expect anything, cause that's not how Luke is. He's a considering guy most of the time, which is more important than a gift one day out of the year.
I suppose that depends what they mean when they say it. Id say that typically quirks are oddities but not necessarily problems where as Kinks are usually viewed as something that needs to be fixed hence the phrase “some kinks to work out”. Logan saying it’s a grandma so it has some kinks, to me, means that things in the house aren’t as intended anymore because of age, they’re broken or not functioning properly like the example of the hard wood buckling, that’s something they could and probably will at some point repair. Rory say’s peculiarities which is closer to a quirk in my opinion and perfectly describes the raccoon situation it’s a funny little oddity specific to this house but not necessarily something broken. Logan definitely says kink and it’s odd phrasing but still makes sense.

And Luke being shitty here bothers me a lot but I could stand it if that weren't the whole episode (or he had some actual motivation to be such a dick) but it more or less is (the few bits of Logan and Rory playing house is not enough to save this for me) The episode where the car crashes is not solely Lorelai freaking out and being shitty to Luke, that's one scene. Also, she has motivation and it's relevant to plot. Vineyard Valentine is about Luke being shitty because the writers needed to have him be shitty
this episode is painful. I think 2 really good ones are "3x17 a tale of poes and fire", it shows a little bit of cycles ending for both Lorelai and Rory's, also lots of the town's people. Also, episode "4x14 the incredible sinking lorelais" has a different energy from most episodes that makes them feel a bit more grounded.
I can't watch the basketball scene EVER. I've watched the whole series at minimum once a year for who knows how long, and I skip it every time. It's too awkward & painful to watch
The Lorelai Luke breakup was so stupid. Luke acted completely irrational leading up with keeping Lorelai and April apart, and then asks like a dick for no reason
I always hated how Luke handled the April thing. But at the same time, he is a man of order. He likes his predictable and simple life. The April thing knocked him off his hinges and he needed time to adjust. All Luke knows is that Logan was a bad influence on Rory. She got off track as soon as she met him. He got her arrested and let her drop out of Yale. At least, that's the extent of Luke's knowledge. It's fine that he's skeptical.
I hate this episode, for me it is THE WORST of the entire show, but is the main example why i hate stupid fake holidays like valentine's day: Luke finds it absurd but is willing to go just to please her girlfriend, she was fine without that nonsense but got pressured by Rory and societal bullshit. He's uncomfortable the whole time and instead of helping her, Lorelai just teases him. And at the end he was kinda proved right, they were in that beach house with some rich insufferable kid who didn't even had permission to be there from the very beginning...
