Thanks for an honest review Tim! It’s refreshing to hear both good and bad points out of a review, rather than just a bias on the good because the reviewer wants to receive more stuff in the future.

    Hi Tim,
    I enjoy your fencing videos.
As mentioned by others in the comments, you can reduce the quantity of ratcheting required by putting the the chain block in the 'free wheeling' position and pulling on the loose end.
The advantage of the ratchet over Haynes type strainers is the incremental adjustment when getting close to the desired tension. On short run fences on particular, I occasionally find 'one link' of the chain is the difference between not enough and too much.
    John.

I have been using this setup for about 5 months.
Yes the ratchet gets stuck but if you hold it up and let the chain untwist itself it will come through clean. On the amount of ratcheting to be done the trick is once set on the wire set the toggle to up and pull the chain to take out the slack that will reduce the ratcheting by 90%. If you read the instructions or watched a TH-cam video you might have picked that up but hey
You must also take into account the amount of muscle work required to strain the same with Haynes, young fit People like yourself and stubborn people may think it’s still easy but there is no comparison. I can use wireman all day 1 handed.
On hinge joint fence mesh, with two ratchets ( one a 3 tonne monster on the bottom but that’s just what I have ) and the wireman on the top I can easily strain 170m of 7 strand fence.
The jack gripper does get loose and could be finished a little better with a few sharp edges but it comes with an Allen key and I have given them a once over with a grinder to smooth them out. The price is expensive but less than the price of my physical exertion.
They are an excellent product and once use to the set up you will never go back to Haynes style.
As a bonus the ratchet and chain will pull a calf quickly with even pressures and has enough length to get the job done. With the scales to weigh a 42kg calf carcass you
know why the heifer is having trouble, but at least we saved the mother. ( cost recovered right there x 5)
Keeping the wireman in the bag supplied to keep them clean and untangled makes them even easier to use.
They are heavy because they have good steel and should last a lifetime with the replaceable wear parts on the gripper.
    I highly recommend this product.
    That’ll do pig

I seen these a while ago
I think it's worth a shot but wrecon the ratchet is the week point.
Plus when straining multiple wires at once the waratah tenser senser wire tensioning gauge is the way to go.
Merry Christmas Tim and thanks for another great video.

How many lbs of tension do you put on:
    1) single strand smooth wire
    2) barbed wire
    3) woven wire
You can use your units of measurement and I’ll convert.
Just stumbled on your channel tonight. Nice. Thanks for doing what you do.

Really good review, concise and extra camera work with that ground up shot of the end knot. nice! Maybe Hayes will go to that type of wire grip. Happy New Year. Really enjoy hearing about things from down under. Come over and we will show you around Tennessee!

I've reserved myself to using gripples for repairs since I didn't like the old style. I'll be purchasing these Jack The Grippers tomorrow.

The links between the Gripper and the chain look light enough, but I suppose they have been well tested and up to the job. Good video Tim.

I use a come along or the golden rod to pull barbed wire. The tension gauge would make a good addition to a come along.

    @rampanttricky17 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Certainly a lot more conveniently sized than a "standard" come along (at least in the US) and allows for more fine adjustment.

Strainrite 6m chains are the best. I added a forged hook on the other end so it could be attached to a standard grabber chain. Two 6m chains, two of the boundry strainers and two heavy duty strainrite plates. Can strain half a km of wallaby fence in a single length with that set up.

Thanks for the video Tim. How did the whole setup go regards to getting the tension right? Especially with the prefabricated 6 or 7 line you were using? Can the wire strainer handle 6 or 7 kN straining up 400m or so of prefabricated wire?
    Thanks again
