I think we're past the fact that her voice is angelic already, but THESE VIDEOS?! so helpful, informative and inspiring, whenever I watch them, my hands start itching to create something new. Thanks Anna, you're a blessing to this platform!
Hi Anna, congrat i am from Guadalajara Jalisco Mexico, some times i think i’ll never paint like her, but if i want paint like you, i had to try and try many times. I love your work.
Anna, you don’t know how long I’ve waited for you to paint some portrait for us. Please, I beg you, paint some more and show us you tips and tricks for it. Very, very happy. Thank you
Your generosity as an instructor fills me with profound respect and so much gratitude. 🙏 Thank you for making such rich instruction available to even the poorest among us. 💗 There are many great YT artists and instructors out there, and I appreciate them all, but you bring a unique something-something that I really treasure. Thank you for the privilege of learning from you.
Thank you so much for your kind words Nancy! It really means a lot - I feel like I make these videos in a bit of a “vacuum” for weeks (just me and my microphone and paints) and I am not sure whether a particular topic will resonate every time. Reading direct feedback is super helpful and encouraging. Thank you for taking the time! 😊🩵
I SINCERELY appreciate this, too. I 100% agree with their words. Art is my therapy, but my health & finances make professional education a distant dream. You have no idea of what this means to me ❤Thank you.
Perfect timing, I'm in the midst of painting my granddaughter, this tutorial was SO helpful, more so than many others I've viewed lately. Thank you so much for sharing!
OM🌟 ! I never even knew you painted portraits! I'm THRILLED to see this video! You're such a fantastic teacher & my main goal with watercolor is realistic portraits. To learn this from you is more than I expected. TYSM😊 I would love to see dark skin as the next topic. Also I seem to prefer artists who pain dark skin with a purple undertone or a variety of as opposed to using a variety of browns. The layers of brown pain make the subject seem lifeless. As you used multiple colors on her skin, I'd like to see the colors you choose when painting rich warm dark skintones. Like a cinnamon skintone.
Thank you so much for your feedback! I am by no means a portrait expert (my specialty is botanicals) but similar fundamental principles of light and shadow can be applied 😊and my goal with this (and every other video I make) is to break things down so that we can all get better and try different things and different subjects. Yes definitely next one I need to record is a darker skin tone with some lovely violets and greens 🩵
You are so welcome! 🩵 Sorry I’ve been silent for 3 weeks / dealing with some personal stuff I don’t feel like airing out on YT 😞 trying to think of that quote from David F Wallace “when things are difficult - just make good art” something along those lines… I am paraphrasing but you know what I mean 🩵
This is such a beautiful portrait!! I should really try portraits in watercolour, which I find really difficult compared to pastels or colour pencils - maybe the key is really a limited palette, so I will experiment with my 6 colour travel palette now. Thanks so much for the inspiration!
Thank you Helene! This was a fun one to make (and narrated) but I am going back to my favourite blooms next week 😊 Spring is almost here (I can feel it!) and I realized there are still so many flowers I haven’t tackled with you all 💕
Thank you so much for this video! It is extremely helpful! Would love to learn more about your color choices when painting the skin tones, especially as you get into the shadow areas.
I am so glad you are talking through how to shade the face and mix the colors. I was wondering how I would ever learn to draw anything. I just started a class and still haven't learn how to mix colors for a face:) Thank you for your help:)
You had me worried for a minute or two Anna, I thought you were going to leave that big dark shadow that looked like she had a giant bruise on the right side of her forehead. lol! I should have known better! As always the painting ended up beautiful in the end. What an amazingly beautiful green eyed little girl. I had green eyes as a child, they later turned brown as I got older and my blonde hair darkened to brown. Green eyes are the least common eye color, and always my favorite eye color.
So many great, inspiring and amazing videos.. love u Anna keep it up and keep working hard ...one day ur hard work will pay off...and also ur voice is sooo lovely...once again love u ❤❤❤❤
I’m going to subscribe to your Patreon for the just to see the portraiture. I’m interested in all aspects of portraits. I’d really love to see how you’d approach wrinkles, bags underneath eyes and blemishes on the skin.
Beautiful both your painting and the subject. Would love the see you paint a more mature face also how you would paint some subjects in monochrome. I always learn so much from you, watching you paint is kind of magical. Thank you.
Hi Anna! been loving all your videos! thank. u for sharing us ur wisdom! Just wondering if u know the Polina Bright brushes? and would u be able to review them for us Thank u🥰
I can’t remember the video, but you mentioned the quest for the perfect red and ended up with a lot of reds! Yeah, me too! Right now, Schmincke has THE RED to end all searches. If I’d had this historical hue when I began watercolor painting, I’d only have made one purchase of red. Not kidding. It’s their limited edition vintage cochineal red. It’s not vegan, if you know the history of the color. But I got it at Jackson’s and because it’s on sale right now, I’m about to order two more tubes (I never want to run out). At its most concentrated, it’s a deep, bright, carmine red (but without any purplish tones at its darkest), and as it’s diluted out to mainly water (you can still get a sweet pink when you’re using what amounts to dirty paint water, basically), it becomes the most perfect, pale, unassuming pink. I get nothing by sharing this info… except for knowing I tried! You’re an amazing artist! ❤
Omg tell me everything - what is the exact name and pigment number !??? I literally just started exploring Schminke (mostly granulating but some blue) and I am absolutely in love with this brand 🥰 no red Schmnke yet … please give me the name!!!! 😄 is it Ruby red?
Ok I had to re-read your message carefully because I was too excited at first. So it’s called “cochineal red”? Ok I will first check in my local store although here in Canada we never get the full range of anything... I’ll order from Jackson’s if I have to ❤️❤️❤️
Hello Anna ! I absolutely adore your content ! Thank you so much for posting those vibrant watercolors... I wanted to ask you, which size are you using for the escoda brushes? They look so handy and perfect for all those detailed paintings. Thank you so much :)
Full disclosure - I am a big fan of simplified hair approach (2 layers max and sometimes I “cheat” using super/granulating pigment to take texture without getting into the details) but I agree - this could make for a good sample exercise video and maybe a small chapter in the upcoming book ;)

You are very skilled at portraits. QUESTION: Is there a book about portrait drawing / painting you would recommend?
Beautiful! I’m wondering what blue is similar to ultramarine? I’m trying to avoid granulation on the skin. Thanks!
Phthalo Blue red Shade from any brand 😊 I only know one ultramarine that doesn’t granulate - the one I used here from Schminke
@@AnnaBucciarelli thanks so much!
How do you choose a background for a portrait? Or is it best to leave it white?
