My dad was on this ship until his honorable discharge in 1972 as a boatswains mate for the Captain. It's cool be able to see a glimpse of what he saw. Thank you.
Thank you for this video as I was attached to VF-142 and on the Enterprise on this cruise thru Rio and around the Horn. It brings back a lot of good memories of my past.
Hey I saw my squadron V-27 on board in 1971 I was a sophomore in high school that year , I went aboard in 1976 with V-27 serve 2 west-pac's as a plane captain it sure was an adventure like they say . Have a lot of memories 😹😹
I was on board her as we steamed down and around the tip on our way to Norfolk / Newport News in 70. Became a Shellback on the way when we crossed on the Pacific side. Early out for me early November 70. I was an SK-3 on the commissary side of it. Made two deployments to Tonkin Gulf 68 & 69. Lots of good memories except the day of the fire. Lots of bad memories there. Anchors aweigh my brothers.
I got off of her on her westpac 78 cruise at Subic before crossing the equator . Too chicken to become a shellback then. Now I wish I would of finished the cruise.
I was on Guam when that happened and remembered the refugees passing through the island. Wasn't the evacuation of Saigon around March or April of 75 or so?
Was with HC-Det 4 as rescue air crew on that around the Horn trip, as well as the following WestPac cruise. Had a couple rescues during that time. Rio was great!
Just saw this video and want to thank you. I was in VA-196 and was on the cruise from Norfolk to Alameda and then to WESTPAC. Too bad we had our Valparaiso port call cancelled. But couldn't have spent those years with a better group of guys or on a better ship. BZ
Hello, I remember when she was launched. I never thought that I would hear of her being decommissioned. I met a Sailor that served aboard her in the Chart Room. He mentioned to me that she was the fastest ship in the Navy.
It was, I was TAD for a few months on the Bridge and at that time the Chief Quarter master told me top speed was confidential. I did witness how fast it was tho during an encounter with a Russian trawler off the coast of Korea during the Pueblo fiasco. Amazingly fast.
Great video. Got to see the Big E out at sea following RIMPAC '78 and went aboard her in Pearl. I was a blue shirt/crash rescue aboard Aussie carrier HMAS Melbourne 77-79. Any more of this, i'd love a full copy if there is.
1977-1978 RM3 Communications department, communications administration division. I still got found memories of her. Good old cvn-65
Too sad your end!!!
Great movie, specially showing my city Rio in the beggining of the 70.

I remember seeing her in Bremerton years ago when she was in for an overhaul. I was always fascinating by that radar turret on top of her island.
Let History never forget... The name... Enterprise!!
