Agree with you. I picked it up 2nd hand at SoRCon. Had one test run and enjoyed it but want to play it more with others to see how it really plays. I struggled with a lot of the rulebook though, again videos helped.
Played it once and really felt different from other games in my collection... So I picked up a copy. I didn't feel the rulebook was too confusing.... Little bits felt out of place or not as clear as they could be but overall it was fine... In my humble opinion :) It fits into the lighter, glancing on the edge of medium level and as such doesn't take too long... Which is good for some nights when we don't have long. Good review tho Paul :)
We liked it. Yes, I expected Something heavier, too but it was fun to Play. What we disliked was that those paths were the only way to Score. Would be nice to at least have some Points for building the most Factories/Planes or having the most stuff in the end. Maybe we will try to House rule that. We didnt Like the "make one path Stronger so make one weaker" so we Just didnt make them weaker and left the Grey cubes on there. That worked, at least for me and my wife
I want to play it more, but I'm unsure as to how much I will play it when I already have games that I REALLY want to play. I had it with me at Baycon, but never got it out of my bag, instead preferring to play Nusfjord 4 or 5 times. I think that you were far too kind about the rulebook. I found it almost unintelligible - despite the layout and the examples. So much so we abandoned our first attempt to play the game as it seemed to be too complex. It's actually a very straightforward game, but lots of things are hidden behind confusing terminology. Those four tracks aren't shares, they are VP tracks - which in many Eurogames have also been used to represent shares (or how "invested" in something a player is). And they provide a nice dilemma - climb up early (which is cheaper), or wait to see which tracks look like they will be worth the most and climb up them? I do wonder if the game isn't a little TOO quick/short; every time I've played so far I've felt that the game could have been another 25% longer without it hurting (and how often can we say that?). I agree with your comment about the visuals being great, save in one respect - they really, really should have made the number of the steps of the VP tracks much, much more readable. It's a pity that someone didn't spot this, as the numbers should have been at least as readable as those on the "council seats" (the VP multiplier spots).
Great review! For your problem with the rules for the wheel - Edition Spielwiese produced some nice rules-videos for their games - also for Noria. Maybe that explains that issue better. th-cam.com/video/VRq4ebc9FcI/w-d-xo.html
Another great review. More folks need to support your Patreon to get you to do more stuff like this.
Nice one, enjoyed the review.
