Enough food and water for 12 days. Only 8 hours from the nearest village. Let's build a motorbike from my car. Legends are made of these things.

I have been looking at the photo I saved after finding it online years ago. So today I decided to dig into the whole story to prove to my friends here at work that the story seems to be true. After finding the video above…. I was so happy to see the genius who built it! Its an incredible story. It made my day!
Thanks for buying it for the museum for all to see and marvel at. An amazing creator!

This finally answers my question as to how power was transferred. If you're not familiar with the 2CV, it's hard to see, though they show it.
The 2CV engine has INBOARD brake -drums-. This is vital for his plan to work. I must explain this.
Most cars: the brake drum is right behind the wheel/tire. There's a driveshaft of some sort that goes from the brake drum (which spins as you move) to the transmission. So the brake drum moves up and down with the wheel.
On a 2CV: the brake drum is mounted directly to the spinning part at the transmission, THEN there's the driveshaft, then there's the wheel.
So our man here ripped off the driveshafts and wheels on both sides, leaving just the spinning brake drums by themselves on the transaxle.
He lifted the engine off the front of the frame and moved it back and over just a bit until the spinning brake drum RUBS ON THE TIRE, transferring the motion.
The problem with this, his narrator pointed out, is that it now runs backwards. So he had to drive out the entire way with the transmission in REVERSE.
For the mechanically inclined: the transaxle is also a differential. So if he did ONLY this, the unladen brake drum would spin freely. He made a holder for the unladen brake drum to keep it in place and drive only the side rubbing on the tire.

@@powderslinger5968 I'm not so sure, this one looks far superior to the one they built. It would no doubt be incredibly difficult to drive and slow however. This guy has full throttle control, in mythbusters they really didn't so they would be completely at the mercy of the machine, they had very little control. I imagine this version is far better balanced too. I don't know, it could be BS, but I'd love to think this worked. I don't think it's impossible. Then again, I'm very skeptical because we've not actually seen this guy drive it, which REALLY makes me question it. I don't know why he hasn't shown himself riding it if he's so confident...

This has been debated for over two decades. It's still not established whether or not this event ever happened - at least in the way described by Leray. There are a lot of inconsistencies, and his version of events has changed over time as details have been challenged. Makes for a good story though, for sure.
