He took down Ali Jr with one punch and was prepared to leave it there. He only started slowly killing Ali Jr, because Ali Jr claimed he was going to kill Baki, before being killed. To Baki, who has prepared himself for death in battle against his father even before his mother died, not putting your life on the line and claiming you're going to kill someone is the ultimate insult.

Plus jr was the one pushing this fight the whole time, and even when he told Baki that he wanted to take Kozue away from him Baki made it clear that he respects her but she’s not his property so he cannot control what she does although he would be sad if she left. Baki spared Retsu because Retsu wasn't trying to kill him. Ali Jr said that he was going to kill him which changed the whole tempo of the match. Plus, Baki probably expected Ali Sr to step in which is why he didn't attack him.

What amazes me about a certain scene is where Baki makes sure that Ali jr is awake before choking him out with all his strength. Highlights the ruthlessness of the arena and difference in reality where two of aforementioned characters live in. Baki's world is filled with vicious struggle and only certain few can roam within. Where Ali lives to entertain by being a sportsman. He never stood a chance in the beginning and cumulation of events before this, entire build up just to crush Ali from a hero to zero in an instant was written very brutish, but I love it.

Kozue was good in the original series from 2001 but later in the manga and in Baki 2018 forward she just became shitty. She used to really like Baki and acted very loyal from what I remember, but then her character just slowly fell to shit and she did morally bad things like hanging with ali jr after directly antagonizing Baki.
The author got into new youth's head so brilliantly with this. Showcasing the difference in growth and achievement between old school youth, who earned their skills humbly and for genuine goals without letting it go to their head - vs the modern fake-it-till-you-make-it arrogant youth casually direspecting elders, trying steal what others have earned, and inevitably ending up getting a kick in the balls from men and patted on the head motherly by the women. He did it SO well that the reactions in the video comments are as expected - it's basically gen Z boys whining for having been made to look into a mirror vs everyone else who just saw a spoiled brat getting spanked into a man.

What amazes me about a certain scene is where Baki makes sure that Ali jr is awake before choking him out with all his strength. Highlights the ruthlessness of the arena and difference in reality where two of aforementioned characters live in. Baki's world is filled with vicious struggle and only certain few can roam within. Where Ali lives to entertain by being a sportsman. He never stood a chance in the beginning and cumulation of events before this, entire build up just to crush Ali from a hero to zero in an instant was written very brutish, but I love it.

Kozue was good in the original series from 2001 but later in the manga and in Baki 2018 forward she just became shitty. She used to really like Baki and acted very loyal from what I remember, but then her character just slowly fell to shit and she did morally bad things like hanging with ali jr after directly antagonizing Baki.
