  • The film GoodFellas made cinematic history in 1990 and was nominated for six academy awards. This is the actual location where Billy Batts was severely beaten on June 11, 1970 and taken to Connecticut to be buried under a dog kennel. John Gotti swore revenge on all of them but instead murdered Tommy DeSimone.

      Revenge for "Raging Bull" too...
Because if I recall correctly, Joe Pesci beats him up in that One as well!

      Question is...
Who's gonna get back at Frank Vincent (Rest In Peace) for Nicky Santoro's brother Dominic???

The "Go home & get your shine box" scene was shot at a place on 73rd Street and Grand Ave in Maspeth, Queens, about 6 miles from Robert's Lounge, where Billy Batts allegedly made the insulting comment. The bar where they some time afterwards beat up Billy Batts (Henry Hill's bar, The Suite) was actually a good distance away from both at 111-20 Queens Blvd, Forest Hills, Queens. That's about 3-1/2 miles from the place where they filmed the scene. So the insult and the near-fatal beating did *not* happen at the same place and time as depicted in the movie. They happened at different places on different days, according to Henry Hill.
CORRECTION: the Suite was on 111-16 Queens Blvd
It is now the home of a Japanese restaurant called Shogun Hibachi.
    ____________________
    Below, from Wikipedia...
"According to the book Wiseguy, after William "Billy Batts" Bentvena was released from prison in 1970, a "welcome home" party was thrown for him at Robert's Lounge, which was owned by Burke.
Hill stated that Bentvena saw DeSimone and jokingly asked him if he still shined shoes, which DeSimone perceived as an insult. DeSimone leaned over to Hill and Burke and said, "I'm gonna kill that f--k."[6]
Two weeks later, on June 11, 1970, Bentvena was at The Suite near closing time when he was pistol-whipped by DeSimone. Hill said that before DeSimone started to beat Bentvena, DeSimone yelled, "Shine these f-ing shoes!"[6]..."

Thank you for that!! I am just editing a video that I took in Maspeth at the old Spartan Restaurant, but I couldn't pinpoint the original location on Queens Blvd. However, based on the location of Krugman's "For men only" on Queens Blvd, I included an image in the video where I guessed what I thought was the original Suite Lounge. If your information is correct then I guessed right, lol, 111-20 Queens Blvd. Thanks for that, I had a feeling that it was the castle looking building.

The Asian restaurant was the location of Henry Hill’s original ‘Suite’ lounge. They had the second of two fights-one by JFK and the other here. The restaurant where the scene was filmed was just a set for the movie. The original lounge, here, was demolished years ago. And they didn’t drive him straight to Connecticut. They went down the Van Wyck, back towards Howard Beach, when he started kicking in the trunk. 😊🔪🩸

Sadly, the cafe in the film (where Jimmy kicked the phone booth over when he found out Tommy was executed) is now some sort of industrial storage place, but still looks the same. 1 think what really upset Tommy was the fact that he spent all day blowing up balloons and decorating for Billy's party just to be insulted.

I never understood why Robert Deniro's character didn't get killed along with Joe Pesci's character, I guess just because it was Joe's fight so only he paid the price for it.

It depends on what angle you are looking at. if you're looking at it in the movie Jimmy Conway was seen as the "boss" and Tommy was expendable and was blamed for killing Batts.. If you're looking for what actually happened accounts vary (as they always do with the Mafia) but it's generally accepted that the real Tommy Desimeone was a hothead who was prone to violence which contrary to what people think, the mafia does not really approve of as they are not thought to be trustworthy to be good earners and more likely to bring the attention of the law. Tommy's brother was also suspected of being a rat and Tommy had to always fight the feeling he was also a rat. As for Jimmy Burke in real life, was a very good earner and was seen as while being a hardcore gangster who was in no way whatsoever shy of killing, he knew how to control his temper and convert it into money making.. But what the truth and the movie do show is that made man is deemed untouchable by lower ranks of the mafia and even more so by non Italian associates like Jimmy Burke regardless of how much they earn. So it is somewhat surprising that DeSimeone was murdered and Jimmy was not, possibly because the Gambinos were making too much money from Burke and saw more value in keeping him alive than deSimeone who to be honest, no one would particularly miss. You should also remember that Goodfellas is based on an account by Henry Hill, and he was never one to shy away from either embellishing his accounts or changing them entirely when it suited him.

His character Jimmy Burke was incredibly dangerous and rich from the Lufthansa heist. The Gambino's blamed Desimone for the Billy Bats hit. John Gotti was the one that pressed the button. He couldnt get to Burke who was making too much money for the Luchasse family. Bats was there to collect as he was given the Desimone crew and the Burke numbers rackets were supposed to be his. They didn't need to kill bats, just pay him his tribute like the old timers did.

The first argument between Billy Batts and Tommy DeSimone happened at Roberts Lounge owned by Jimmy Burke..Two weeks later that's when Tommy came back and put a Beatdown on Billy Batts with Jimmy Burke at Henry Hills bar called the Suite Lounge 1116 Queens Boulevard..Henry Hill was a heroin user plus cocaine and an alcoholic..He said the movie was 95% accurate I'd say more like 50% accurate..Hill got $500,000 for Good Fellows and blow it all on drugs and alcohol and gambling at the horse races..They promise him millions of dollars more which he never got...

Batts was a Made man, Jimmy was not and neither was Tommy, so Tommy had to eat the BS coming out of Batts mouth. His best move to live to an older age would have been to walk away completely
