  • 70 W. Boston Blvd. in Detroit's Historic Boston-Edison District is listed for sale for $3.25-million. Built in 1914, it is one of Detroit’s largest homes at 20,000-sq-ft. The historic mansion, once home to Kmart’s founder S.S. Kresge, features 14 bedrooms, 9 full baths, 10 fireplaces and 2 indoor fountains. It sits on a 4-acre lot, believed to be city’s largest residential lot.

    Simply beautiful, they don't make them like this anymore. I would take this over any new build.

      And shameful when there tear down the older mansions with the character that is of a by gone era for the newer STUFF ! I would never want new for my primary home !

    I sure to miss my K-marts!! Used to go to my little 'dime store' Kresge's back in the day too. I'm 73, but when I was 16 and attended the Grand Opening of the very FIRST K-mart on Ford Rd. in Garden City, Mi in 1962 - I won a $$ Money Tree with $50.00 on it - from the Sidewalk Sale. WOW.... That was a lot of money for a teenager or anyone back in 62'. That store has been razed when it SHOULD have been saved as part of Garden City and World history. It should have been the LAST store to close... since it was FIRST to open. How sad. :-) . Thankyou S. S. Kresge for you vision........and LOVE your beautiful home too. ** K-Mart was MY saving place; now I have nowhere to shop.

      Eddie Lampert had to buy Sears. A recovering retailer doesn't buy a dying one and think combining them would make both better. Did a $5B stock buyback as CEO which was criminal. Thought it was a better investment rather than invest in the stores.

    I used to live in Grosse Pointe Farms and in Birmingham and I know that area where that helps its there's a lot of nice homes on that street with famous histories. I have to say though it's so sad what certain groups of people have done to the surrounding areas

    Such amazing architecture in Detroit - the Boston Edison neighborhood has mansions that put Toronto's Rosedale to SHAME! Granted, this particular house looks awkward from the backside but, the front façade is absolutely regal and the interiors splendid. I am glad that the furniture and interior design reflect the original era of the home - the nearby Chartles T Fisher mansion has recently been refurbished by the Detroit Design Showcase and the interiors now look awful - too modern, original features (such as the foyer chandelier) removed ... the essence of a 1920's house destroyed!

    • @christinegruenberg3120
      @christinegruenberg3120 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree. Instead of restoring these mansions they butcher them up and so much white paint. What's that all about. You should never paint over beautiful woodwork no matter how dark it is. It just makes me sick to see these shows on tv and how they ruin all these old homes.

    • @LoriethaC313
      @LoriethaC313 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You mentioned the Fisher mansion, that might be the mansion that actor Hill Harper purchased and remodeled and renovated or is it another Fisher mansion in the Boston Edison area?

    • @Napp28
      @Napp28 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@LoriethaC313 I "think" you're right but not sure. The Charles T Fisher Mansion is a Tudor looking house on the West North Side of the Boston Edison district. There is another Fisher Mansion along the Detroit River which I believe is now some sort of religious base. The one by the river is Mediterranean in style. Without any exaggeration, some of the most amazing architecture in North America is in Detroit Michigan.

    • @jamesscherrer1642
      @jamesscherrer1642 ปีที่แล้ว

      IM SORRY, BUT I COULDN'T DISAGREE MORE!!! They took that old mansion and turned t into something that's all about today with a VERY respectful nod to it's roots. It's exquisitely done, tasteful beyond anything today and will EASILY carry it forward with dignity and grace. In other words, it's absolutely TIMELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • @Napp28
      @Napp28 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jamesscherrer1642 on the contrary; The Charles T Fisher Mansion has elements to the interior that only reflect modern trends (such as the various light fixtures and etc). They will be dated within 7 yrs and will look "out of place". Not only is it more aesthetically pleasing but, in the long run it is more economical to renovate such a specific styled home under the fashion in which it was constructed.
      But, that's the glory of architecture and design; What you might love, others might hate.
