I had the same thought! You should strengthen them (forget about stretching, massage...), the tricky part is that it only works if you isolate the right muscle (otherwhise other muscle will do their job). It took me 3 years to find the right exercices (I solved many pains, from lower back to shoulder and hypnic headacke) I'm nearly done with it . Good luck!

I'm having Neck strength issues. Which muscles are used to bow the head forward/chin towards the sternum ? What muscle/ligament would restrict this movement ?
