    As a lifetime woodworker, yep, it's that easy! Something you forgot to mention as you were doing the sanding properly is to always go in the direction of the grain. Looking forward to the fiberglass repair!

      Yes, I should have mentioned that. The Fiberglass video will probably be next week, or the following.

    Great video also you can tell your viewers to soak your teak oil rags in water and don't let them stay bunched up in the Sun or they will combust and catch on fire

    Love the repair vlogs as much as the travel vlogs. For someone who has owned a boat most of my life (lake boat). I know how much work boats are.

    I'm about to pull the trigger on a Hatteras 72 and you just answered one of my questions as many of the windows in the births have this same water streak discoloration. Thanks!

    Boiled linseed oil works great as well for interior wood work.

    I would love to see a trip to Europe on this boat !
    It Would be grat to see management of range issues !

      That would be nice, but we can't hold enough fuel. We have a 5-600 mile range. One day we hope to swap out the engines for electric motors. Maybe then.

    Nice video, thanks. I am wondering how many hours a year do you spend maintaining your boat?

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure. A lot. But a lot of it is upgrades as well. The nice thing about working on the boat, is, for the most part, I find it enjoyable. Not always, but most times!

    Nice job, but what I'd like to know is what tape that was you had used to hold down the solar panels?

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3M VHB Heavy Duty Mounting Tape 4910. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007Y7EY6I/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
      RVers use it to mount solar panels to the roof of their vehicles. I figured if it can withstand going 75 miles per hour down a highway, it should be good on our boat.

    Ed , I enjoyed the video, I am surprised at the sandpaper grit , wouldn’t 220/320 give a better finish ?

      You may be right. I am not a good wood-worker. It is just the first thing I tried and it worked well.

    Great video - can you give me the specific teak oil you used? I bought the clear and didn’t get the same results, What’s the part number or name for color? It seems as though in the video it’s much darker on the rag than the clear - thank!

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not at the boat and do not remember, but I bought it at Lowes. Sanding is key!

  • @cybermatstrikes7557
    @cybermatstrikes7557 ปีที่แล้ว

    a little oxalic acid (cabots deck clean) would have improved the result before oiling.

  • @davehill1818
    @davehill1818 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video Ed! Is your teak a veneer over something else (e.g., marine plywood) or is it solid teak? I have a veneer (perhaps 1/16" thick), so sanding has to be done very carefully so as not to sand through the veneer. Thanks!

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The walls are teak veneer and the trim is solid teak. It does not take much sanding. I just do it by hand and it works well.

      Don't take it to heart Gary. This is a guy who shows up to the circus every time it is in town so he can build himself up by pretending he is better than the dwarfs because he is taller. Just another heckler in the audience without the courage to step on stage.

    This is not a repair! Always find the root cause of the leak, perhaps rebedding the porthole is a good start.

    • @tryingnottosink9107
      @tryingnottosink9107  ปีที่แล้ว

      The leaks had already been fixed before I did the teak.
