    I love the P99AS! It's comfortable to shoot with either hand (unlike my Glock that feels like being smacked with a meat tenderizer when shot left handed) and the decocker is a nice addition for concealed carry. I'm in the process of completing my expert qualifications with it. Being a James Bond fan, the fact that the P99 was 007's weapon of choice for 10 years is a nice bonus.

    Shot my P99 today. It's so freakin accurate. Will hold its own with a Beretta 92 or a Sig P2XX any day of the week. I also find the transition from DA to SA very smooth with the P99. In some ways, I think it's the ultimate evolution of the DA/SA system. Wish they'd bring the P99 system to the PDP and the Q4 SF.

    I hope Walther USA is bringing these in again. I have only found ONE dealer who gas them. As a side note Walther usa is also making another mistake by NOT offering the PPK in .32acp.

    The Walther P99 is one of the best handgun designs ever l class it with the 1911 Browning Hi Power and Glock 19 why it never caught on in the US I'll never know l have two of them and many other 9mm handguns but love P99s

    good review, this was my first handgun. It was basically stolen and ever since I've been meaning to get it back. Came across a multi gun trade and the owner had a brand new 2022 model (still apparently making a handful each year, stamping on the frame confirmed DE 2022). Did the trade primarily to get this guy back. Great shooter and great company.

    I'm a huge Walther fan. Just acquired my first P99. Love it. The paddle mag drop SB IMO the only method of mag release, it makes perfect sense and wouldn't be out there if it didn't make sense, since it's German engineering.

    Another thing to note, the double action mode is that it really is like a double action trigger. What I mean by that is you have second strike capability in case the first strike didn't manage to hit the primer hard enough in adverse conditions. As long as you aren't using cheap Walmart ammo which might just end up being a dud and won't fire no matter how hard the primer is hit, it will probably fire on the second strike like any other quality pistol with a double action trigger. One of the coolest designs on a striker fired pistol in my opinion.

    Great video Sir..
    I had a 1st gen P99 (2004 & older) loved it, wish I never got rid of it. Recently purchased the new PDP and I ended up getting rid of it for a new P99. Mostly because of the decocker feature with the Anti-stress trigger. Also the indicator to let you know there is a round chambered is much easier to see than on the PDP. The P99 is the best gun I've owned. Why Walther decided to discontinue it is the 2nd dumbest thing they've done (not giving the PK380 a captured guide rod springs assembly is #1). I can understand dropping the PPQ because of the PDP, but man I wish they'd keep the P99 going.
    If you're thinking of getting a new one, you better hurry before their gone.

    • @protectiverailroaddad7541
      @protectiverailroaddad7541 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You’re in luck, they aren’t discontinued they are just imported in very small numbers. I just got a 2021 made P99 3 weeks ago. From my understanding Walther imports the law enforcement overruns but doesn’t produce anymore for the civilian market. They are still on the German Walther website but not the Walther America website. The American market doesn’t really want da/sa pistols so Walther moved on to the PDP in USA. Only true walthers fans and collectors still want the p99.

    I always thought my P99 AS was superior to any Glock and people would roll their eyes. The irony is that if you break it down it looks almost exactly like a Glock at first glance. I told this to my local gun dealer and he dismissed me saying "Then why not just buy a Glock?" I explained the dynamics of the way the P99 functions. I love the crisp trigger pull. Glocks are mushy. And both of my P99s are utterly reliable. Never had a single malfunction after thousands of rounds.

  • @Gath8mm
    @Gath8mm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hello, this fire mechanism is a damn life saver. You have a second/ third fire strike capability! If it goes click, and your off hand is busy trying to keep someone from killing you, all that is required is to pull the trigger again. Typically if not the second, then the third will ignite the primer. If not, your carry ammo sucks. Still, it's a great way to take an element of Murphies law out of the equation.

    Fun Fact: The Smith and Wesson SW99 is the same gun. Walther had a problem importing these and collaborated with Smith and Wesson to make a US version. I believe the frames were made in Germany and slides were made in the U.S.
    I had both sidearms at one point and miss them both. The parts are 90% interchangeable between the two.

    In the movie "The Inglorious Bastards" during the awesome bar scene just before the shoot-out, the English spy soldier states in "Deutch" "I have my Veiter (Walter) pointed at your balls". So, it seems in German, it's not pronounced "Walter" with a "W" but rather in English, it sounds like "Veiter". As in Viter. BTW, I've owned my P99 since 2006. I recently bought a Canik TP9 Elite SG. It cost $200 less in today's money and has a much better "wall" on the trigger pull than the Walther P99. I still love the Walter P99, but the Canik TPS Elite SC is a better carry handgun. IMHO, of course.

    Too bad they are hard to come by and are grabbing the same money as a new PDP. They are what Canik based their first series of the TP9 pistols on and to be honest at this point in the game the Canik versions are just as accurate and reliable at less than half the price with better grip texture. Just saying.
