Awesome project. Something to think about regarding the physics of your crossbow: The energy stored in the springs doesn't just accelerate the arrow... But also the metal wheel rotation. If you make the wheels as light as possible, more energy will be used to accelerate the arrow and you'll get more velocity and range.
You said compound and cam. Beautiful work but I see simple pulleys without making the word compound applicable. Now you're able to build the next step which could if a truly compound may also require a leverage assist incorporated to set. Let the engineer in your heart see what anchored cords in variable radius cam pulleys might drive for wilderness survival. Something for a balanced diet. Also consider a compact tool set system of making projectiles from wilderness available materials as well as a service plan that doesn't likely require ordering more parts from distant sources. You're an inspiration. Clean simple work sets a precedent to carry the task further. Thanks for interacting. There's promise in the wind. Relax and enjoy.
Nice idea, but you ought to increase the efficiency and the speed by running the string the other way. Giving it a longer "stroke" should almost double the power.
We bought thisd for our son. The first trip he came up to hunt with me, he had a shot at a great buck and wacked him dead to rights at 50 yards. Dead on, literally.

Nicely made, but you have "wheels" not "cams". The whole point of the cams on a compound is that they interact with the linearly increasing tension in the springs such that the draw weight is more constant, possibly dropping off at the hold point (which doesn't matter for a cross bow).
What can this guy not do. He makes knives, vises, crossbows, he knows how to machine on a lathe, use cad, and weld. The most quality content on yt to be completely honest. I got a question. Do you have a degree in something if so what exactly and how do I get to where you are?
Say goodbye to finger hair with the new Miniature Spring Crossbow! Jk, I absolutely love this design. It's easily in the top 3 best ones you've made so far
Я, прекрасно понимаю человека, который своими руками это все изваял! Огромное ему спасибо! Но! Никакой практической цели, кроме развлечения детей. И это! Уже очень хорошо! Надеюсь, что он конструировал вместе со своими детьми!
Ok..But must need to provide one bullet guide hole. After some using the nylon rope will having plasticity property.so it's chance to less spring tension.
Having so many tools, machinery and resources, it sure is awesome. Edit: adding a metal rail, a longer area of acceleration and vanes to the bolts, will pretty much improve this toy
What about one with some locking mechanism that locks the arrow/bolt in place so it doesn't fall off and the mechanism releases it's locks on trigger pull
Leagle Eagle How does it add turbulence? I’m thinking the magnets would be embedded in the wood along the groove and the bolt would be mettle which would magnetize. Once it is released the magnets would not affect flight.
Leagle Eagle and magnets could be toward the back of the channel so that once the trigger releases by the time the bolt is leaving the channel it will be out of range of the magnets. I do wonder how those bolts stay steady. They’s have to be very well balanced.
I never really understood how compound bows and crossbows works, never found a good explaining video, can some kind soul recommend a video or something?
It is a fairly simple principle... but first off, what you see in the video is NOT a compound crossbow. The whole point of the compound system is, that the rotating disk is not round but increases in diameter. Larger diameter == longer lever == less force required.
@@etherealicer Oh, I see, the principle is simple indeed, but people just don't take their time to explain it better, or perhaps I'm a bit more dumb than I thought
@@shaska762 The principle is really quite simple (the execution and the precise calculation to get a good power profile is of course a lot harder). It pretty much boils down to what I said, due to a non-round "wheel", you change the length of your lever. I found this site explains the different parts quite well without being too lengthy: www.outsideonline.com/2415644/pulse-oximeter-everest-safety-gear
@@etherealicer + wheelas and cams work as a snatch block,if connected that way,and not as in video, this is just a 1:1 gear ratio, but this is not important for this little device
Not a compound. Whole point of compound is having 2 diameters on cam - one for string, one for spring. That way you can have stiffer bow limbs, since duble cam is magnifying string force. So limbs can move less, and more of stored energy is used to move string and arrow, less is used to move limbs. Also cams can modifiy force as a function of draw.
The bolt is leading with its center of mass, for one. Also, fletching is used to increase distance and precision, not prevent tumbling. Had there been feathers added, the bolts would have struck the target closer together.
I believe since this has the energy stored in springs rather than the limb of the bow, the centered pulley design of the cams is ideal. The eccentric cams only come into play on the ends of stiff bow limbs that store the energy instead to allow the leveraging advantage, as the string between the limbs shortens when the bow is drawn it also compresses the limbs together and allows the limbs to be made really stiff so their energy efficiency is higher. In a proper compound crossbow design, of which something this small can't really be reliably made, it certainly requires the eccentric cams in the design. But as FamousMovieScenes09 said before me, this mini compound crossbow is just for fun. I find the spring-pulley design at this scale quite smart and he made it really nicely. As is TH-cam's design intention, I enjoyed the video, and that's what matters.

without feathers/fin, why do the projectiles not tumble in flight?
Because its not very powerful or fast whatsoever...
