Don't bring your phone anywhere near the Cache. They are amazing tracking devices. If you have signal, they will know exactly where you are, and if you don't have signal they still may know where it has been. If you really have to keep it on you, get one of those faraday cage bags, and make sure it works.
just by the way blackie, even if you dont mark a waypoint on your phone, your phone still tracks your every move down to the meter. (assuming you have a "smart" phone) (so youre better off to just leave the phone at home, or atleast in your car)
One downside to burying stuff, unless you're in the desert, is that it sweats inside the container. I buried some ammo in cans under a shed, checked it after a few years and it was ruined because of condensation.
As an addendum. If your worried about "Agencies" or using GPS markers leave the phone at home when doing this. It's not obvious but Google and the like track your travel data even if your not using GPS as a tool. Google will send you travel reports of how far you've traveled, where, ect (also not just google but you get the point). Granted you need service for this to work so if you're in the sticks maybe this won't apply to you but still something to consider if this is a real concern of yours.
Better to turn your phone off and wrap it in several layers of aluminum foil before you leave home so if you have an issue you still have that Option to call out. Remember that even a turned off phone is still able to record and track.

Hey Blackie! You are talking my language with this one! I used to live in a remote area and was scared of fire, so I got an oil drum with a removable top and filled it with a pair of boots, some spare undergotchies, etc. just stuff I would need if the cabin burned. Hid it on the back side of the property under a pile of old roofing and construction debris, a passerby would think it was just a dump site. Hey great video, thanks! Regards, Pink.
Another alternative for a stash container is making a wide cylinder out of PVC pipe and fittings. Just another idea for anyone out there who don’t have a metal container
Blackie, nice video. Watching this video reminds me of the last season of Breaking Bad. He hid his money in the middle of the dessert in 12 55 gal drums. Then he put the gps on a lottery ticket that he bought. Big heavy wall pvc pipes like 4 inch or 6 inch with clean outs would do well also.
Any thoughts on creating fake rocks with space for items? Another channel named S2 Underground has talked about this technique and usage as dead drops back when spycraft happened in places other than the television screen.
Great points Blackie! If things got bad enough I had to access backup BOB supplies like that the first thing I'm going to do is either ditch my cell phone or wrap it in bubble wrap and put it in a can so it will have zero signal. Those things are pretty much tracking and surveillance devices and they have to be neutralized.
@@mouseblackcat5263 That won't get it done. It may work for your helmet, but you'll need an actual faraday cage to silence the phone tracking. But fuck, the aliens will still have your anal probe tracking.
I carry my climbing tree stand in on my back and cache it the woods the entire deer season. I find a spot with dense cover that nobody is going to walk through and bury my stand with forest duff and lay dead branches on top of it. That way I can come in pre dawn, quietly remove my stand and get up in a tree quietly.
Hey Blackie great tips , I believe these topics have become very popular bc of the current climate. Alot of so-called educated talking heads are saying another conflict could take place here. Let's hope and pray it never comes , but if it does we have to be planning and on top of things if we all go dark.
Blackie, that's a great ideal!! Back in the 80's when it started that gun deal. I started cache in the woods. I put a 6" X 6' with a cap on bottom and screw on top. I cut a piece plywood with piece of Parlodel to pull everything up. Take a oily rage on bottom , than the plywood, drop what ever into to it. Dig a post hole by a fence post. Thanput Vaseline around the screw lid and put a little dut over it. I have had four in the ground. I check mine with the seasons. Never had a problem. Thanks for the video!
Great video as always! In areas where a metal detector might be used..go a little deeper on cache and place some scrap iron above cache..this won't fool someone determined to find your stuff..but might fool a rookie
These are great ideas. Times are changing, maybe it will be needed. One thought I had watching this. Stuff you have to buy, containers, tarpaper paint or flex-seal etc. Just to really hide buy with cash, leaving no paper trail. Thanks Blackie
If you use a container made of metal that you're worried will Rust. you can use a process called cathodic protection. Under the metal container in the ground use a wire attached to a metal like zinc or magnesium. They will give up there electrons easier to oxygen then iron. It becomes a sacrificial metal. The zinc or magnesium will corrode but the iron will not. If done correctly this can protect untreated unpainted metal for up to 20 years in the ground. then all you have to do is replace the cathode again when it corrodes away.
may I suggest to put a pack or 2 desiccant aka DampRid in the can to combat moisture build up in the can due to day/night temperature cycle. it's similar to a cold glass beading up with water droplets in room temp.

I like the cache idea. Another method of storage is the 5 gallon plastic bucket with a snap on lid. Dig a hole big enough to set 4 or 5 or more buckets in , line the hole with gravel as you said. Then set the buckets in the hole and cover with tar paper as described , cover with dirt and camouflage as you see fit. Having a backhoe or an excavator is handy and saves back labor as well.

I knew of an old woman who lived across the street in a small town from a bank. One day the old lay called her son to help with a septic problem. He wound up digging up $ 30,000 out back one can at a time his mom had buried over the years at night. She didn't trust banks.

My and some of the boys back in my youth had a stash of playboys out in the woods. We used an ammo can in a hole in some rocks. To my knowledge it’s probably still there today. 🤣
I do suggest what ever anyone is deciding to use as a cache .. try it out on small scale first .. place stuff that has similar properties to what you actually want to cache in your test cache .. a dollar store screw driver is a better choice to find out your cache sweats and causes rust than that knife you was thinking would be god to cache .. 6ft of paracord instead of a 100 ft Hank .. make sure it doesn’t mildew . 3 matches in side a pill bottle taped shut instead of a whole box of strike any where .. go small and cheap with items ,, test at 1 week ,, 1 month ,, 3 months .. if stuff is good you’re on the right track ,, even a couple 22 cartridges .. way cheaper than that box of 380 you was thinking about trying to store for starters .. make sure after the test all these cheap items work as they should and have not deteriorated ..
if you're stashing guns and ammo make sure you use plenty of moisture desiccate and oxygen absorption packs! grease up the guns real good and if possible seal the ammo up with vacuum bags! old out buildings and barns are good places too!! nobody notices an old box in a corner of an old out building! i knew an old moonshiner (that's passed on otherwise!!) who buried oil drums in the back corner of a cemetary back by a fence line to do dead drops in! and i know a few who get these self storage lockers and us them!! as for waypoints nice way to send them on a wild goose chase!! have a few in the opposite direction!!
I have 2 of these , on my property and at the camp i did the same as blackie with the ammo can However i lined the holes also, with a plastic my grandaddy always called " bisqueen". Its just a heavy thick plastic sheeting.. treat the can just like blackie says... That coupled with the lining, will ensure theres no rust and moisture. You can also buy large silica gel packets and put inside the box. They gobble up moisture

Most parks usually have wooded fringes (at least where I live) Under flower beds is another option if you can do it inconspicuously. My thinking for that situation would be a number of smaller caches in maybe empty paint cans. (you can get them from big box home improvement centers) They're air tight, light weight, and easy to pack in. Pack it, put in some desiccant and cover the entire thing with flex seal. This should completely protect the contents and prevent any scent from edibles escaping. I read some prepping book long ago and far far away where the author said someone set a number of these on his line of march on the way home. He'd put some rice and beans, plastic drop cloth, waterproof matches, fishing tackle and a few shotgun shells in the cans. The idea was to provide enough supplies for one night to keep him going.with maybe a little extra. Only downside is you need a tool to open the cache.
Would there be any harm in flex sealing the inside as well in case the outside seal is compromised? I'm gathering so much useful information from this series and old ways. Thank you Blackie for your effort and knowledge.

Don't forget to put some sort of “silicon moisture“ pack, or catlitter in a perforated ziplock to suck the moisture out. Desicant pack I got a 1day stash and a 3day stash enough for 2weeks o emergency. 1day =1day walk away 3day = 3day walk away. 5gal buckets, silicon seal the lid, ductape the seam, two trashbag and then buried. I can not stress enough about the dessicant packs
Leaving the phone behind is smart. If you go to your Google "maps" then go to your account ( upper right corner) then go to "timeline" it will show exactly where you have been in the last hour, day, week... and will show how long you have been there.
Metal detector might be an issue but if you throw out some nails nuts bolts etc around it after someone digs up several nails they will probably go on to another place and not find your can
not exactly. solid big piece of metal sounds different. when prospecting, the excitement of finding something big and solid is to bring everybody together for the search. best to find a cache spot that's less likely to attract attentions. maybe join a prospecting club and learn where they like to look for finds.

Could you not put the tin in a plastic rubble sack ...
Instead of Vaseline on the seal, use some silicon grease.
Enjoyed the video and the series!
Hey Blackie,
I travel for work and have spent the last 3 weeks in Prattville AL. The humidity might be worse than what I'm used to living in NC. I'm not sure when I'll be back but do you have any camping/hiking recommendations for the area?
Thanks!
Don't forget to put some sort of “silicon moisture“ pack, or catlitter in a perforated ziplock to suck the moisture out. Desicant pack
I got a 1day stash and a 3day stash enough for 2weeks o emergency. 1day =1day walk away 3day = 3day walk away.
5gal buckets, silicon seal the lid, ductape the seam, two trashbag and then buried.
I can not stress enough about the dessicant packs
I feel what you are saying. I grew up with money in the bank.
Leaving the phone behind is smart. If you go to your Google "maps" then go to your account ( upper right corner) then go to "timeline" it will show exactly where you have been in the last hour, day, week... and will show how long you have been there.
Back I the day they was called M5 48 can
Metal detector might be an issue but if you throw out some nails nuts bolts etc around it after someone digs up several nails they will probably go on to another place and not find your can
not exactly. solid big piece of metal sounds different. when prospecting, the excitement of finding something big and solid is to bring everybody together for the search. best to find a cache spot that's less likely to attract attentions. maybe join a prospecting club and learn where they like to look for finds.
