It's funny. This was the lowest scoring game in NBA Finals history and yet it's probably one of the most exciting. Proof that you don't need a ton of points to produce an amazing game.
I was lucky to have seen this live. It was an amazing game, probably the best game I've ever seen in my life. Stockton, Malone, Jordan and Pippen were all unbelievable, but nobody talks much about the other guys; Jeff Hornecek, Steve Kerr, Tony Kukoch... Those guys played great ball too. I know it's been said before, but you really don't see intensity like this in games anymore.
The lefty finger roll off the fake in the post against Russell is amazing, as is the behind-the-backboard jumper and the dribble jab step, between the legs, pump-fake jumper at the top of the key. The jumper as he comes across the lane where he raises up really high is incredible. There'll never be anyone better. 34 years old here.
watching this game I"m glad the NBA changed their rules to encourage easier scoring and discourage physical interaction between combatants. All that intense defense just leads to hard feelings and a bunch of guys losing their cool due to their heightened competitiveness. This put the emphasis too much on the ecstasy of winning and agony of losing instead of where it should be, guys being able to get open perimeter shots and basically uncontested drives to the basket. Thank you David Stern
Yeah, that missed 3 at the end by Jordan was heartbreaking. It's amazing how he even almost hits the game-winners he misses lol. That reminds me of the shot that rimmed out against Indiana in the '98 ECF after Reggie hit that 3 to put the Pacers up. Just incredibly close.
Keep bringing them man! I'm reliving all of these moments. The Bulls were a great team, not fancy at all but great team defense and of course MJ and the great team player that was Scottie Pippen.
Lotta things to talk about here. Lowest scoring Finals Game ever but still 18th highest rated to this day. A thriller from start to finish and incredibly loud. This was probably MJs lowest point as a Bull in all of the 90s except for the Magic loss in 1995. He scored his Finals career low on 40% shooting, including a crucial miss in the final minute which led to an historic pass from Stockton to Malone over Jordan for a 1 point lead. The MVP Malone (Jordan’s only stolen trophy in his entire 2nd threepeat) redeems his Game 1 blunder with two made free throws to seal the game and tie the series at 2-2. In danger of going down 3-2, likely losing his only Finals, and ending the greatest streak in sports history - no 3 game losing streak in his last 626 games as a Bull - Jordan wakes up at 4am a day later with brutal food poisoning which keeps him home or on the bench until tip off. He then puts on one of the most inspiring displays of heart in sports history with the flu game, ties the series up in the final seconds of game 5 in a grueling uphill battle, and wins his 5th ring two days later. In his last dance year - game 6 - he ends his masterpiece by stealing an identical Stockton lob to Malone, scores the Bulls last 8 points, swipes the ball from Malone, and wins his 6th ring on a last second jumper.
Such an amazing finals series. That game. Stockton clean steal, stockton 3 point, the rebound, the pass to Malone. All in like 2, 3 minutes. Malone with 23-10-6. Stockton with 17-12-4. That flu game was next Jazz almost won 3 in a row. A 7 game series would have been awesome.
Mr. Entringer True, but I don't know if Utah would have been able to beat Chicago. Game 7 would have been in Chicago so that would have been to the Bulls advantage over the Jazz. Btw, I wanted Utah to beat Chicago. The Bulls already had four titles prior to that one. It would have been Utah's first.
@@jbmu02 They May have. There has never been an NBA finals where the home team won every game so who is to say that the Bulls would have won the 6th and 7th at home if Utah won Game 5.
Having a tough game, commentators pointed it out...then suddenly drilling buckets, dunking in traffic, chase down blocks, smart passes and one rattled out 3 pointer away from likely leading to a win. Low scoring game, but was like watching an athletic game of chess. Golden age of basketball.
The body contact affected his layup. That's why it was a foul. It's not just about slapping wrists but would how the defender affects the ability of the player to make the shot.
The War of attrition between two worthy Foes! At some point they were able to figure out how to cancel out the fan noise for the commentaters but that took the emotion out of the game for me. 90s were amazing!
IT WAS A 1991-1992 SPORTS MAGAZINE WITH MJ AND MALONE ON IT STARRING DOWN EACH OTHER ON THE FRONT COVER CUZ IT WAS A PREDICTED HEAD OFF IN THE 92 NBA FINALS. BULLS HAD HOME COURT ADVANTAGE BUT THE JAZZ WON THE 92 FINALS SERIES IN 6 OR 7 CANT REMEMBER
Obviously.. no double team What killer instinct is that? Did they win? Did ur jordan lead his team to win this game 4? He missed.. and then there is no full game of this game so jordan legacy wont be damage
Good god that crowd is AMAZING. I have never, ever seen a crowd that frenzied before. Sitting in the lower bowl in a crowd like that, you can't even hear yourself yelling at the top of your lungs.
The jazz were suppose to do this nba finals thing in 1992! This series and the 98 NBA finals series was suppose to be a blow out series like a sweep or 4-1. The 1998 game 3 was exactly what this series was a 52 point game blow out. Like I said the jazz were prime in 1992 and we're predicted to be in finals and even beating the bulls but Clyde the glide busted threw in 92.
U gotta love the NBC intro's, there's nothing like it, much like MJ playing..There's nothing that compares. I hope ur considering uploading game 5, even though it's on YT already i hope u post ur own. Thanks
AND of the three he missed at the buzzer vs Indiana in 1998 ECF after Miller hit the three to give the pacers the lead with less than a second to go. The Bulls should have won this game, no doubt about it.
davd1986 Shoulda woulda coulda. The fact of the matter is, they did not. Even if the foul on Jordan had not been called, that just means, take away that one free throw, and it is 77-73.
i remember this game, i thought bulls had it wrapped up when mike put em up 5 late in the 4th.. i still don't really understand how utah was able to recover from that..
that three at the end is a fadeaway three and it almost went in again!!too bad. even an off night for mj, he would always come back in the 4th quarter.
that jordan 3 went in an out to tie that game would have been miraculous. almost like the 3 that he shot in game 1 of 91 finals that went in and out and they lost.
The Mailman choked both years. Game 1 in 97 when he missed those free throws at the end. Game 5 in 97 when he refused to foul out after Ostertag put them within 1 point of the bulls which could've gave them a chance to win the game still after blowing a 16 point lead.
@2011manbeast i agree dude. However, i would say there is intensity in some games like this one nowadays...like in huge rival games. like the 2008 nba finals between the Boston and L.A. That series was awesome. Kobe being the MVP and KG being the defensive player of the year...there was a lot of passion in that series.
im glad i was 2 years old wen this was happeing and not watching basketball yet cuz ppl who didnt like the bulls it had to be annoying to see them running the 90's
That breakaway "foul" by Jordan was shown on two replays to be a clean block, and Walton/Goukas were adamant that no foul should have been called there. It's amazing the ground MJ covered there, and it shows his tenacity. How many stars today would make that play with a speedy PG already off to the races with a head start rather than sit there and bitch at the refs for a call? Maybe Lebron...
@popeyeisgood goosebumps down my back everytime I replay that fadeaway 3. how sweet it would have been had he tied the game with that 3. even though it was half way down
yea amazing jump on that shot. he was definitely slowing in general in the second 3peat but he keeps his'jump shoot' jumping ability when he was old. about the tenacity of defense, it was crazy that the bulls has two guys like that, pippen was if not better, just almost as good as mj on those coming from behind blocks, although mj's timing on block is incomparable.
MJ almost made that last three. That, and the last shot he took in Game 4 at Indiana in the 98 ECF. The ball did pretty much everything except stay down.
from the normal angle is a foul because of mj's body slamming on to stockton's. but yes indeed the block is really clean and it happened before the body contact, i dont know much about how they would call that, it is a tough one to decide.

FA S "the other does not (Jordan)" try saying that to his potential game tying shot in this game, or his potential series winning shot in game 5 of 1998. But the other is true. Malone has choked and has had psychological meltdowns in both Finals. And this is coming from a Jazz fan
JBourneID That's funny. Because I have seen people say that LeBron choked when ever he missed a turnaround three. But anyways, the three pointer shot in this video was not really a turnaround. But those are not the only examples I can think of. There have been times in Jordan's career where he has choked. It just did not happen too often. His relatively quiet game in Game 5 of 1998, or his relatively quiet game here in Game 4, could be considered choking, for example.
Ah, 1997. Within a 2-week period, John Stockton had the greatest shot in NBA history (game 6 WCF at the buzzer, 5 HOFs on the court), best steal in nba history (game 4 finals on MJ), greatest pass in NBA history (game 4 finals on MJ).
It's funny. This was the lowest scoring game in NBA Finals history and yet it's probably one of the most exciting. Proof that you don't need a ton of points to produce an amazing game.
JazzyUte Right on. Just go out and play the game. Whatever happens happens.
Nah, the Nationals vs Lakers score was much lower.
this was THE SERIES of the 90s man... games 4 thru 6 all came down to the final seconds i miss 90s nba
Definitely the loudest crowd in NBA history. Saw it live and nothing has ever compared. Nothing. Ever.
WOW That Utah Crowd is loud! They could barely hear Marv Albert's voice at the end lol! great series!
Incredible how close/difficult Jordan's last 3 was. Reminded me of his 1991 Finals Game 1 miss against LA.
He was tired at the end of the game...
He almost got it to go with the defense all over him.
good point. Equally reminscent of that 3 that was in and out at the end of game 6 against Indiana in 98.
@@JT-xp3inThat was game 4 vs Indiana, the same game Reggie Miller hit his game winner.

no matter how much point MJ going to get, it seems like MJ always comes big in 4th quarter.
I'll never forget this game. When Bryon dunked at the end, I jumped up so high at my friend's house, that I punched the ceiling.

The NBA needs to go back to NBC with that them music and Marv Albert
