I cannot BELIEVE people are upset with her because she’s strong and didn’t crumble from the horrible situation she was put in for 8 years! What is wrong with people?

Seriously people got time to judge other people without experiencing what this poor child went through. Like the saying goes "if you got nothing good to say don't say anything". Respect to Natasha for believing in yourself

This is an amazing story and it hurts my heart that the media and people turned on her because she wouldn't be what they wanted her to be. I do have to say about myself I sometimes feel like a ghoul because I listen to this stuff constantly. I have a huge amount of respect for her not disclosing the details and I'm so happy that she didn't have to face a trial. I wonder if he purposely killed himself to spare her from that. From the age of ten you could tell she grew up way too quick and that by then she already knew how to handle herself and other when in risky situations. Her strength to adapt, the fact that she treated her captor like a person was obviously a huge part in her survival. To hear that she bought the property and filled that dungeon in must have been so healing for her, she should be greatly admired for being able to heal herself even in the face of others shaming her for not playing the victim role. There are not many people who could have gone through what she did and came out how she did. She never lost herself, she submitted to her situation and accepted it, but she kept herself, she stayed her own person and was able to set boundaries with a person most people would be terrified of, she should be applauded for her unique ability to thrive and overcome even in the worst of situations. Thank you very much for sharing this story it shows that sympathy, resilience, self awareness, gratitude, and hope can exist in the darkest of places.

Imagine bullying someone that got kidnapped and assaulted physically, mentally, emotionally, and sexually. Does that make you feel good about yourself? Just what kind of person are you so be that way to someone that happened to?
People don't understand the things that you will do and go through in order to survive. This is a very "simple" example remember years ago I was talking to my friend about how you would eat bugs if you were trapped on an island and there was nothing else. And she was insisting that she would not but I'm like once you get to a certain point in your brain that survival instinct just kicks in. You will do things that you would think you would never do. It's so easy for people to say what they think they would do but when the situation happens they might react in the complete opposite way.
It's just like with Colleen Stan, girl in the box case, so many people were judging her for not getting help because she wasn't allowed outside after a while. She went and visited her family. Once you get in that mode of survival, you just do what you need to do. Once you are broken down that much and brainwashed that much you won't reach out for help. It's only really when you get the opportunity like Natasha did.
I honestly don't hear about a Tasha's case very often. I first heard about it years ago when I was a teenager I think and I was wondering why she didn't go out for help sooner but once you get older and you actually learn critical thinking skills you should be able to put this together. It really just angers me to no end that people treated her the way that they did after she was out. And they call her weird for mourning her captor. Yes, you do grow attachments to these people no matter how horrible they treat you. But you do that to survive and they are the person that is keeping you alive. It's why people form bonds with their parents. There are some truly awful parents out there that will treat their children terribly but their children will still love them to an extent because that's all they know and that person is essentially the one keeping them alive even though they could be actively killing them. The human brain is a complex thing and I really wish people would just think about some stuff before they would let her out of their mouth.

Thank you so much for covering this case. It’s so little talken about - other than the Fritzl Case.
The way she’s being treated is/was horrible. It’s like you said, they don’t like the way she’s presenting herself. I’ve read horrible comments, once her third book was out, like: Guess she’s out of money again 🙄 I remember all the headlines and stories, asking why she didn’t run away sooner and why she was actually sad right in the beginning, when he killed himself or why she bought that house. Making fun of her gaining weight and saying, that she actually enjoyed being kidnapped and the centre of attention.
I’ve never seen people react to a victim like this, and it’s horrible.
So I’m really greatful for your empathy. She definitely deserves it.

She sure deserved a different public support ending to her experience. If captivity and abuse for 8yeara didn't break her then the media and the judgemental weirdos weren't going to be even close to breaking her.
Thank you for letting me know she had written books. Will check out the local library.

God bless her! I think she's amazing and all those haters are just so ridiculous! Shame on them! How dare they! I think it's great that she bought that house. If I was her I think I would love the healing aspects of being in complete control of the very same place she was victimized! If I were her, oddly enough I feel like I would now love cleaning that house. Dressed, alone with music on and it all being mine and cleaning it for me! I think she's a strong survivor. And I'm so proud of her for getting through it all. She kept her promise to her younger self and came out onthe other side! Beautiful!!

It’s the town of Tinmouth, it’s population is less than 500 people (2022, may be smaller now), anyway we don’t have a high school, stores, traffic lights, a post office or police station!! But we have an elementary school (pre K-6th grade), my 6th grade graduation had 5 students in it and the school’s total number of students was 53 students. My kids went/go to the same school now and it’s a bit bigger, I think there are now around 80 students.😊🙂❤

    A few things to add:
She really does have Stockholm syndrome, she just believes in the social model rather than the medical model. She says it’s not a disorder, it’s just human emotions.
People believe she may be hiding a second kidnapper/captor. The people who saw her get kidnapped reported two men in the white van, and her captor had a good friend who helped him build the basement prison.
On one of her skiing trips, she attempted to escape by telling other skiers who she was and asking for help but they didn’t do anything.
She also tried to unalive at one point by setting a fire in her prison.

Kids born before the 90s would walk to school alone at 5 years old. It was normal. It wasn't until a bunch of children were kidnapped and murdered murdered that it had stopped. I'm not sure what the magic number of missing children it took to convince parents to change their ways, but I assume it was a big number. It's sad that it took so many young lives in order for parents to wake up.

Just for some context: I think walking to school alone is waaay more common in western Europe than in other places. I walked to and from Kindergarten at the age of 5 on my own (20 minutes walk), and so did most of the other kids. Now this was the late 90s in Switzerland, but I still see very little kids walking alone now.

No matter what she survived by having some type of relationship with him and this is being smart for a 10 year old but even though he kidnapped her and she was abused some type of love came with it because she was so young I loved my step father but he sexually abused my sisters and I from the time I was 3. Somehow she bonded with this man if it wasn't some type of love it sounds wierd to someone who hasn't been abused.

I think it’s totally wrong for media/people to say she ‘enjoyed’ being kidnapped. And I understand that majority of us (thank god!) have never been through that experience, but as normal, well adjusted people I think we find it hard to believe a lot was ‘cuddling’ and why you’d want to be in that house (it was not where she spent her formative years, it was her prison), in a way it’s seems to me, I can’t speak for others but romanticised.
She is a victim and a survivor and I totally support the fact that no one has to speak about the abuse they endured if they chose not to, but it makes me think does she see it all as abuse, especially in the sexual context or possibly just not being able to come to terms with it herself.
I just hope she finds happiness, peace and the correct help, so that she can move forward.

Sick ppl wanting to tell other ppl their narrative.... people are sick... even if she adapted to this situation, doesn't mean she chose it or even could. He took a child! There is no consent... TF? There are plenty of strong women who survive and help others who go through similar struggles....she is doing the same....

I listen more than “watch” these and I subscribed because well, yay! An Aussie! But I prefer just a tad faster speaking sorry. Watch Elenor Neale, she’s hyper. Good luck, you’re beautiful but I can’t wait for you to get to the point anymore - we don’t talk this slow or emphasise in r/l
