I can corroborate the storms piss off scorpions fact. I was fishing in the southern Indian forest when a storm hit at the end of the dry season. I'd spent weeks there without seeing a single scorpion, but that night they were all over the camp. I got stung, but it was about the same as a bee sting. Not pleasant, but then it wasn't yer deadly Egyptian.
It has always been my understanding that with scorpions, the general rule is bigger (and less vibrantly colored) is actually less deadly, because they can use size to hunt and thus have less potent venom, while tiny (and often bright) scorpions are just doom with lots of limbs.
The rule of thumb is: If a scorpion has large pincers, it usually has a smaller stinger and less potent venom. If a scorpion is small with smaller pincers but a large stinger, then it relies on its powerful venom to hunt and defend itself and is thus potentially more dangerous to humans.
