Fantastic list Pat. Great to know your favorite bands. I have a few suggestions for future episodes to take into consideration (in no particular order) 1. Bands and musicians I have fell out of love with (for instance for me these are groups I listened to all the time; now I can’t listen to their music including the material I was addicted to. These are Bruce Springsteen, Styx, The Doobie Brothers, Sir Paul McCartney, and U2 just to name a few, 2. The story of Horslips and tiering their albums 3. Best bands with female lead singer. Just a thought. Have a great day and keep on providing amazing episodes.
In some kind of order but not really .., Zeppelin , Priest , Sabbath , Maiden , AC/DC , Tom Petty , Pink Floyd , Purple , Accept , Saxon , Supertramp , Tygers Of Pan Tang , Rush , Iced Earth , Motorhead , ABBA , Beatles , Uriah Heep , Albert Collins , Stevie Ray Vaughn ,
Great video Pat! My top 20- The stranglers Porcupine tree Bowie Ufo King Crimson Pink floyd Talking heads Neil Young Wishbone Ash Genesis Santana Thin lizzy Rush Yes Deep purple Jimmy hendrix Black sabbath Jethro tull Rory Gallagher And you guessed it Pat LED ZEPPELIN!!!!
Nice list, Pat! Following is my own list. Clearly we agree on who our number 1 is! I have adored Deep Purple since I first heard them in 1972 or 1973. Certainly positions will change over time (and I have likely forgotten some), but I would say my top 8 or 10 has remained the same for years. The best of the best! Cheers! 1. Deep Purple 2. The Moody Blues 3. Black Sabbath 4. Elton John 5. XTC 6. Gordon Lightfoot 7. Stevie Wonder 8. The Guess Who 9. Kate Bush 10. Strawbs 11. Pink Floyd 12. Roxy Music 13. Shawn Phillips 14. CCR 15. Bad Company 16. Yes 17. Genesis 18. Jethro Tull 19. Frank Zappa 20. Santana Honorable mentions: - Supertramp - Steppenwolf - David Bowie - System of a Down - Cat Stevens - Joan Armatrading - Bob Seger - Rush - ELO - Leonard Cohen - Rage Against the Machine - Rainbow - Lana Del Rey - Elvis Costello - Joe Jackson - Depeche Mode - Tangerine Dream - Soundgarden - Rod Stewart
@ Hey Sue, I’m a Genesis, Yes & Pink Floyd man myself - not very original but that’s how it is. My wildcard would be The Sensational Alex Harvey Band followed by Be Bop Deluxe
Great list, Pat. Stellar list; all essential, imo. Wishbone Ash is a pleasant surprise. It's always great to discover down to earth artists who will chat or even have a pint with fans. Very cool. Love TDream - certainly takes you on a journey. Transportive music is therapeutic. Zappa was indeed a genius. In my top 5. Cheers, Jeff
Pat, Brilliant, brilliant that you included the great Wishbone Ash. I bought my first album in 1973, It was 'Argus' by Wishbone Ash. It is still in my top 10 albums of all time. Fantastic album. Great that you gave the excellent Horslips a mention. Here are some bands I would place in MY top 20 favourite bands :- The Beatles (of course) Camel (Andy Latimer is one fantastic guitarist) Caravan (I love the album 'In The Land Of Grey And Pink') Be-Bop Deluxe (another superb guitarist, Bill Nelson) Nightwish Supertramp
Nice vid Pat. 1. Mahavishnu Orchestra 2. ELP . Honourable mentions - Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Cream, Tribal Tech, King Crimson, and my countries greatest musical export Acca Dacca !
Great selections and for me as time passes, I keep coming back to Deep Purple and Rainbow but it is mainly Blackmore …first heard Purple in 1969 their third album…went out and got the two previous and then every release as they came out …plus the earlier material by Blackmore and Lord…but what is it about Blackmore after all these years and much of the Blackmore’s Night material is amazing …I finally realized it is his sense of composition and melody - Take care
@@CloseToTheEdge-Prog I am a person that loves rock guitar and variations...Blackmore`s recorded material from 1963 to the present is outstanding. Plus I would argue some of the tunes in Blackmore`s Night feature some of the best guitar playing and compositions of RBs long career ....
Fun selection. I think my top five would be Yes, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, ELP and Gentle Giant. Next Five would be the Beatles (in my mind the greatest rock band of all time), Radiohead, Nick Cave, Hendrix and the Doors. After that would just be a random mix. Greatful Dead, Almond Brothers, David Bowie, Cream, Led Zepplin, Richard Thompson, 21 pilots.. Single artists would be L.,Cohen (my overall favorite up to New Skin for the Old Ceremony), Tom Waites, Richard Thompson, Laurie Anderson, Neil young, Joni Mitchel, Gordon Lightfoot.... probably more but stopping here.
Good top 20 list. Led Zeppelin was a good group and a top 20 for sure but wouldn’t be in my top 5 either. Zappa, I have on a bootleg 8 track. It is catchy. He and Tangerine Dream warrant a deeper listening
