Cobb Foil Liner alternative

- This is a quick video showing how I make a foil liner for my Cobb Cooker.
The circumference of the bowl is 940mm, so you need a 1 meter of foil, the stuff I have is quite thick and 300mm wide but I am sure whatever you have will work, just need to make sure you don’t block the holes in the bottom of the fuel bowl.
I’m not use to doing videos and doing this for the camera makes it look more awkward than it is when you just make one and quicker too.
Trial and error though, if you fail don’t give up, try again. Just because this method works for me doesn’t mean it will for you so if you work out a different way with a similar end result then happy days.
What a good idea to do it this way. The way I normally do it, is quicker, but this way is much better. Will be doing it like this from now on. Thank you.
Great idea and video Robbie👍
Been using my Cobb for several years and know very well how long it takes to clean the Cobb bowl, especially after a long roasting session.
Just made a liner after watching your video and it only took me 5 mins.
Using foil that cost me A$6.00 for 20 metres - so works out at just A$0.30 per liner.
Much cheaper than the Cobb liners that are currently A$5.00 each here in Australia.
Cheers😃
Thanks so much Bro this should save a lot of time of cleaning . I wil try it today
Robbie, don't worry about your abilities. You did very well in demonstrating your idea. Thx
Thanks for sharing. I made foil inserts before by just pushing a straight sheet in the bowl, but it often rips. This method is way better. The liners from Cobb don't fit a compact model and are crazy expensive, so I'm definitely going to use this. Thumbs up!
Thanks mate! Worked a treat for me. I used the heavier tin foil. It doesn’t tear so easily.
Thank you so very much, you're a lifesaver!
Just made one out of extra strong foil £1.50 for 5 mtr roll, job done, thanks for the great tip mate
Thanks Robbie, excellent idea.👍
Hi robbie just done your awesome trick, not as neat as yours or made to look easy, like your demonstration! But its covered the bowl i had a tiny tear but its covered my bowl and will save me some time cleaning! Those cobb liners aint cheap so will save me money! Top notch robbie 👌 thank you 😊
Really well done .....great job!
Great tip
Nice one Robbie… that’ll save the 20 minutes I spent scrubbing ours 💪😀👍
Brilliant idea. I've used foil before but your method is better. Washing takes a lot longer than 5 minutes .Dishwasher doesn't clean very well. Thanks. Worth the 10 minutes it takes to make the liner
Thank you for sharinng, I am going to give this a try. I have used my cobb a couple of time and I am a bit dejected by the riduculous amount of cleaning involved in using the oven.
Great video Robbie, I made one last and it worked beautifully, thanks :)
Expertly done good demo🤙🏻
I like that a lot.
Cleaning tip for the bowl. Rub it in with green soap and pour some amonia in a small cup or something. Then together put it in a closed garbage bag and leave it for the night. The next day you can clean it very easily
Or cut 4 large rectangles of foil and place them directly inside overlapping at the base. Crimp over outside edge to keep in place.
Nice one mate, thanks for sharing. I hate scrubbing mine out after a cook. Will definitely be using your trick. Thanks again. Cheers, BobbyB.
I use metho to lite my briquettes no smell and doesn't affect flavour. Just pour it in then add fire ring way cheaper than the fire starters and they stink true. Just a tip. Cheers
Well done great tip
Excellent! I'm having a hell of a time cleaning the carbon off my bowl right now. The design of the bowl doesn't make it easy to clean. I know people say to clean it after a cook but cmon...who the hell wants to do that after drinking a bunch of beers?
Geweldig 🙏🏾
Awesome!!
Great idea was goin to do this but you've showed me how.
👍👌👍👌👍👌👍👌
Im new to this Cobb. Do you use an ash pan under the coal basket?
Hiya, you don’t have to, but you could. I put some foil under the coal basket just to make cleaning easier. Just be mindful you don’t block the air holes that feed oxygen to the coals.
What a longwinded way of lining 😂
@@suemarquis4574, thanks for the comment and thank you for watching.
Very well done, but it takes way too long with your method. Before the foil inner sleeves were manufactured, I used to foil mine out as well. I should show you my method 😜
Post up a video showing is your method 😁
Show us then
Should and do, are not the same... If you say you can, do.
How long is the piece of foil you cut?
Time consuming good idea.
Has anyone tried cutting a circle in a grill mat to line the the inside instead of the foil ?
After cooking remove the mat and clean the mat to be reused again.
Measure the radius of the centre and fold into four parts then cut out the radius.
Place the mat around the fire area. Then light the fire.
Can bake potatoes or cook veggies in the moat.
That’s a good idea, I may do that as it would save time and money.
Quicker to just clean it.
That’s Debatable.
Or just put it in the dishwasher and it comes out clean…..
@@mn8otjgreat idea, if you’re only ever gonna use it at home!
Why ?????😘
but why?
Why not? It’s cheaper than the Cobb ready made liners, the few minutes it takes to make this saves time and hassle cleaning the bowl after compared to how it is usually is after a long cook with or smoking food.
Many people have asked about alternative to the liners in various groups and forums so I shared a video of how they are easy to do and many people have appreciated the video.
@@Rule-Zero after cooking in my Cobb this weekend , I have to totally agree with you.. I have to admit at first I thought, a lot of work when you can juts wash it . But after doing a roast witb water and red wine In the moat it was a mess to clean up and even after a wash looks stained... should have not been so quick to judge... for the little time the foil takes it save heaps and protects the Cobb..
@@Rule-Zero The other thing to remember is you aren’t compelling anyone to do this. You are simply demonstrating how you do it. If this is useful to people they are being shown a neat, inexpensive and effective way of using foil to line their Cobb. I have only acquired my Cobb in the last week and have used it twice. I will be using you method to line the moat. Thanks for taking the time to produce this video. I find it fascinating how some people can be so ill mannered to post snide comments. Clearly the idea that if you have nothing nice to say: then say nothing wasn’t promoted to them growing up.
4 minutes of my life gone watching that :(
5 seconds of mine reading your pathetic comment. Jog on an troll someone else.
What a waste of time and money. Its a goddamn barbeque not a turbine for a jumbo jet. Good grief, that stainless steel container can be washed in 5 min by hand or put in dishwasher. Bloody hell people get a frikking grip.
lol so true.
I get what you’re saying, but last time I used mine the bowl went in the dishwasher and it still needed 20 mins with a scouring pad to get it clean afterwards. That heat really bakes on the oils and juices. I’d considering making a foil liner, but I think I’d try to do it a bit quicker than this. Fair play to the guy though. It’s a decent job.
Not when I used mine the first time . I scrubbed , scrubbed scrubbed, Put it in the dishwasher. then soaked it over night before having to hand scrub again. I am definatly gong to try the liner.
Clearly you've never cooked anything in your cobb
@@peterbrook4270 I actually own a Cobb Pro. It's a barbecue man, get grip, good grief. I just stick moat and rack etc in dishwasher to wash off excess fat/oil.
