Just moved out of PATERSON after living their for 8 years. I've lived all over North NJ, NYC, and parts of Philly. And while they're all pretty equally bad, PATERSON has the most dope out of any city in America. I'd put my money on it.

There are some very expensive and wealthy areas in NJ too. Upper Saddle River, NJ and Alpine, NJ are some examples of nice places. Homes of millionaires. I think it's one of those states that has extremes. For example, when an area is great, it really is great and when an area is ghetto, it's really ghetto af. Both extremes existing.
To be fair, NJ is one of the wealthiest states by income. I live in Jersey City myself and I think most people's perception of NJ are either affluent suburbs and the Jersey shore.

I don't see anything wrong with 90% of these neighborhoods that some cleaning up wouldn't cure. I love the style of many of the homes and most looked in good shape. The homes in my town don't look much different but what we don't have is street litter and empty lots filled with trash. It's not where you live but how you live. How do you instill pride and caring about your surroundings... by example. Kids learn from adults... that's how it's always been done.
As a native to New Jersey I can say with complete confidence and knowledge that none of these towns are nice. I've been to all of them and spent alot of time in the gang and drug scene throughout northern and central NJ, these towns are absolutely awful. Those houses are most likely not up to code and even if they are your landlord is probably a dickhead that over charges you on your rent. And the violence is out of control. Just last month my cousin who was 17 was shot and killed in Irvington due to gang violence he wasn't even involved in. NJ is a low-key state we keep alot of the more dirty shit to ourselves. Oh and pot holes, everywhere. It's not like that everywhere though, we have some pretty nice areas with mansions and alot of farm land. But a lot of the people in the mansions and working on the farm are also packing and using some type of drug. I'm not trying to say everything and everyone is bad. There's good people everywhere, New Jerseys hoods just bring out the worst in everyone though.

Nice, me and a friend would always drive around Irvington on a Friday and get crowds of people who scream "YERRR" at us. I remember getting a garbage bag thrown at my car on Walnut Ave in Trenton. Oh yea at 24:00 that is Seth Boyden Housing in Newark, I remember getting chased out by a crowd of people with bats back in 2005 when people lived in it.
