Places we visited Detailed description:
1) Antharagange Temple
Antaragange is a mountain located in the Shathashrunga mountain range. It is located three kilometers from Kolar in the direction of Kolar Betta, the series of mountains that form the temple backdrop. Behind the temple there is route leading to the forest, the hills of Antaragange are a perfect spot for trekking, rock climbing, night navigation and other adventure activities. The mountains have many wild monkeys which grab food from the people visiting this hill.
2) Someshwara Temple
Someshwara Temple is located in the heart of the Kolar region and is one of the famous temples in this town. The temple was built by the Cholas who ruled this region in the 11th century who were then dethroned by the Chalukyas. The temple was later expanded by the Vijayanagara Empire and is a fine example of the Vijayanagara style of architecture. The carvings on the inner pillars of the temple have an international connection which depicts the importance and value of trade to the King.
3) Kolaramma Temple
The temple of Kolaramma is more than a thousand years old. It was built in the Southern Style of architecture by Cholas. Goddess Kolaramma is worshiped as Goddess Durga. The temple has a Dravida Vimana Style of architecture, and it has inscriptions from the period of 1012 A.D. There are intricate carvings and designs inside the granite stones of the temple.
4) Kotilingeshwara Temple
Kotilingeshwara Temple lies in a very small village named Kammasandra in the Kolar district. The temple is extremely famous because of the largest and the tallest Shivalinga present in Asia.The temple can be easily reached from the gold fields of Kolar. The Shivalinga is 33 mts and is the tallest in the World. It has an accompanying Basava statue which is 11 mts tall and is surrounded by a large number of Shivalingas spread across the area. The project involves an establishment of one crore shivalingas hence it is named Kotilingeshwara.
5) Choice Chat Corner Bangarpete
Choice Chat Corner is one of the oldest chaat joints in Bangarpet and touted to be the original Bangarpet pani puri place. Run by Ramakrishna, Choice Chat Corner has been around since the ’90s and is considered to be one of the oldest in the hood as well as the original spot for Bangarpet pani puri and chaats.
