  • Solstice Convertible IS SOLD
    Join us for a peek at the sampling of DOC's personal car collection. Most likely the most underrated sporty and reasonably priced cars available today, the Pontiac Solstice offers probably everything you could want in a sports car, except a place to put your luggage or even a sandwich.

    Just bought my 2008 solstice base with 62000 miles on it! It drives a lot like my old Porsche 356 as wherever you point it, it goes! It is faster than the 356. Love this little car! I think you mean normally aspirated. I also enjoy the auto trans model, but I’m 75 and have a bad left knee sooooooo! These cars are fun to drive! Just plain fun! 😂😂

      If you had a 356....you should watch our episode with Stalltek and "Walt"

      I have a 2008 Solstice that has an automatic transmission. It's a fun car to drive and I get compliments on it from time to time. I've had it a little over four years and paid $7500. It's definitely a fun car to drive.❤😊❤

    I have the same red manual solstice GXP only black top.. It’s so much to drive… Ours has been heavily modified (turbo, intercoolers, exhaust.) but the car is amazing and surprisingly fast. With only 60k miles it gives all the positive looks. I call it the bond car. We are planning on putting in V8 motor and yes, it’s fairly easy to do.

    As a GXP Roadster owner, your comment about the wheels was the same thoughts I had when I got mine. They do look great on these cars.

    When buying a used car, it ALWAYS helps to get “the story”. I never buy a used car without getting “the story”. No story, no sale.

    The Chevy C5, C6 & C7 used hydroformed frail rails. Sols & Skys also used hydroformed frame rails technology. So while they share the same hydroformed technology, they do not share any frame parts between them.
    Bob Lutz has been quoted as saying that Kappas were designed to be 4 cylinders cars only. My personal thoughts are that chassis engineers made sure that there was enough room to install V8s into the chassis by entrepreneurial individuals.
    BTW, the platform name is called Kappa, and GM built four different division cars on it; the Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, Opel GT roadster, and Daewoo GX2. But the Pontiac design was unique to the Kappa platform, because the Sky, Opel GT, and Daewoo GX2 were all similar looking to each other. So one platform used between four different GM Divisions, all built at the former Wilmington Delaware factory.

      Search for people who did an LS swap - videos claim there are engine mount positions ready to receive an LS, like it was meant to be.
      Considering how GM stifled advertisement of this vehicle to prevent cannibalization of the Corvette and Camaro, I can see how they'd not want anything bigger than a 4 in there anyway.

    The most beautiful car ever made. This car gets more attention like an Aston Martin DB11, vantage or a Porsche Taycan as I owned a silver base coupe and always get stopped in gas station asking what car is that and I’ve removed all letters from the rear except the Pontiac badge. Very happy to own a rare Kappa! First Coupe in the UK and will love to add a convertible Solstice/Sky(Opel Gt). Thanks a lot for this awesome video I really appreciate it!!!

    I had a red convertible one just like that, but with a black roof. I absolutely loved it, but had to sell it many years ago. I still miss it to this day.

    Thanks for the honest video.
    When I first saw the Solstice I wanted one. There's a Jaguar that looks like them now - when I first saw it I thought its more a revival of the AC Cobra. Several years later I was able to buy one, essentially new (there's a story). I still have my 2008 GXP convertible, and still love it. She's garaged during the winter to preserve the top and paint. Allegedly out where I am there's an automotive upholstery shop that can redo the top (a friend had to have work done on his Skyline).
    I've done some week-long road trips in the summer. Packing takes some planning, and the top will need to be up between places, but once at a destination and unloaded at the hotel/Airbnb for a couple of days the back is free enough to drive around that area with the top down.
    There are definitely power and drivability mods that can be done, simple things like raising the rear view mirror so it doesn't block the front windshield and adding screen door springs so when the rear hatch is released it opens. I've done more than that . . . .
    Amazingly with all the bin parts, finding replacements is getting harder. If the engine ever fails, I'll probably look to convert to electric simply because of how hard it is to find parts. Must preserve the beautiful body style, though.

    The frame is not from a corvette, though it was designed with room for a V8. The frame was, though, hydroformed, just like the vet. It is also one of the few cars that didn't really change, from concept car to production car, which was very unusual for GM.

    Kind of expensive? lol. It sold for $20K. Blind spots don't exist with the roof down. The mirrors were purpose-designed for the Solstice.

    • @wr200man
      @wr200man ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Window sticker on the convertible was $29,000 and $32,000 on the coupe…in todays dollars that’s $41,354 and $45,632 respectively…I’d call that kind of pricey.
      Agreed that the blind spots are gone with the top down…but they are bad when the top is up. There is an eternal argument on the solstice forum about proper mirror positioning to eliminate the blind spot…really that could be said for any car, blind spot mirrors are such an easy fix though.

    1:55 Gee, you paid off your student loans (as I did) so you couldn't afford a new car. You had to delay your dream which makes attaining your dream even sweeter.. Good for you!

    • @Springtailsolutions
      @Springtailsolutions  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Delayed gratification is not necessarily a bad thing… I also promised myself an H1 Hummer (that I never got).
      In retrospect… It was really a bad idea. But there are many more cars that I wish I did bye

    I love the design, especially the grille. It was sold in Europe as an Opel GT, with slightly different bodywork, so the parts are still relatively easy to find. But the Pontiac looks so much better.

    a beauty from GM parts, a longish hood with short overhangs, nicely proportioned. I like the concept of a car this good made from the parts bin that looks this good.
