  • Pink castles, talking sofas, and objects coming to life: what sounds like fantasies from the pioneering animation of Walt Disney Animation Studios were in fact the figments of the colorful salons of Rococo Paris. Join Wolf Burchard, Associate Curator in the European Sculpture and Decorative Arts Department, for a virtual tour of The Met’s first-ever exhibition exploring the work of Walt Disney and the hand-drawn animation of Walt Disney Animation Studios. Inspiring Walt Disney: The Animation of French Decorative Arts will examine Disney’s personal fascination with European art and the use of French motifs in his films and theme parks, drawing new parallels between the studios’ magical creations and their artistic models.

Side note: Wolf Burchard could voice a Disney character and be spot on...
    Beautiful video and exhibit!

Truly amazing. I am in awe of the tower vases. Thank you so much for creating this video. I shall likely never see the Met in person so this is the closest I can come to being there. And my goodness is it inspiring!

I agree. I’ll likely never visit so this is so welcomed and enjoyed. Those tower vases!

Enjoyed this, sadly I think I shall not see this installation in person, unless it travels to museums across North America and beyond.

Wolf Burchard us such a joy to watch, I agree with the other commenter, I could see him voicing a Disney character! He needs his own show!!

Every second a sheer delight; a captivating, visual feast of intrigue, beauty, and fascination all stitched together with an auditory ballet of perfection. Or, I loved it!

Ah, very fun. Really enjoyed this program. Brilliant concept to link the world of Disney with its design sources in Europe. It benefits appreciation of both creative cultures that entertain us today and in the past.

What a pleasure in the depth of information and history of this time.
Now I know what Rococco is. And all the beautiful treasures. Thank you from Australia.

Great idea to make such preview of an exhibition, LOVE TO SEE MORE LIKE THIS AT TEH MET. SPELDID IDEA INVOQUE OUR WILL TO SEE IT! It would be also nice if you could add at the end of the video some suggestion to prepare for the exhibition ( ex, suggest to see again Beauty and the beats, read a bit of the story of Rococo, ETC ETC). The only thing i miss in all the Disney movie is food, there is almost no emphasis of nice banquet, fodo preparation, seams any importance is given on food ( for example there is in Asterix and Obelix)

Wolf Burchard came up with a compelling and daring juxtaposition for an exhibition, and his narration is really interesting. Skip the hour-long "animation of Decorative Arts in 18th century France, with various speakers, unless this is your field of interest. It's disappointingly dreary and pedantic.
