I'm surprised to see so many people attached to this need of a "nothing but self righteous superman like character". This isn't character assassination to me. It's Prime coming to terms that the light isn't always what makes right. You can push and push but if it keeps getting worse then it will just destroy your spirit you will feel defeated. This leads to a broken hero who gives up. It's at this point your darkness will intervene to save you and teach you that sometimes you can't do what is right and save everyone at the same time. It's like letting a murderer go free constantly as they keep killing. Eventually a nerve will strike as your conflict with your convictions hits a fever pitch and you will then realize what needs to be done.
Optimus doesn't want to fight, doesn't want to kill, certainly not his own people, or sabotage the goal of rebuilding Cybertron. But he can't allow the enslavement of another race to serve his. He knows the Decepticons, he knows their treachery. And even with his promise of leaving at the request of Earth's governments, he needed to illustrate his point. "What if we leave... and you're wrong?" The humans found out what. And now that the Decepticons' threats have been made clear, there's only one thing left. We will kill them all. A Cybertronian is no more valuable a life than a human. Were the Autobots brutal in how they tore apart that Decepticon? Yes. Did anyone complaining about that conveniently forget about the fact that that Decepticon had literally murdered at least 14 innocent people less than a minute before? It would seem so. I don't care what planet they're from, if someone opens fire on a crowd of civilians, you officially have my permission to pull their limbs off.
Something I also want to add that this is how Michael Bay has portrayed Decepticons in his movie too. He has dehumanized them and made them ruthless killing machines. they are literally no different than Nazis; and think abt it, do we treat Nazis as humans? Most of us will say no because they did unspeakable things and we want all of them to be tried for their crimes, and I'm not trying to change that opinion. Yes Peter Cullen didn't want to say that line, but like, it goes hand in hand w/ this scene because that's what the Decepticons are: vermin to be purged. Ever since Jazz was brutally murdered by Megatron, G1 fans should've seen this is how Bay wanted to see this conflict. We're not watching silly G1 cartoons where Decepticons and Autobots are having small scuffles outside of human populations. It's not like they can each take light shots, punch each other for a bit, and go home and get healed by Ratchet. It's full blown war. Albeit even Optimus was a rampaging killer bot in the Transformers G1 Movie; right?

If you know what they did then you know that Optimus was a man pushed beyond all acceptable limits. Not only did he give them every chance but he's been fighting his heart out for all three movies, but by now the momentum was changing, we were all tired of it, and to be honest, there's a lot of real things happening in this movie, nowadays they mix in a lot of pure fiction, this shit used to be serious. There's a real reason why Optimus does all the face ripping, and it's probably for the same reason that Bee has a full faced mask.
I mean I'd say he's less of a killing machine there than this movie. In 4 he's killing KSI drones. Controlled by Megatron. He's killing without remorse because they don't have a conscience. I'd say he's a bit more heartless for killing all the protoforms and regular decepticons because their fighting for their leader, their cause and their home because Megs has promised them that they could return home if they kill Bee and the Autobots. So their fighting under the promise that they could play a part in saving their dead planet. mean if you kill a Nazi it's good for sure but there's still the underlying realization they had aspirations, goals, and we're believing the lie that they were the heroes in history. I'd say taking pride and making light of killing off your own endangered kind who were fighting to save their planet and people sounds a lot like a heartless killing machine to me.

At this point in the movie they have proven to have a senseless drive for the slaughter of humans especially when uneeded. I came here immediately after seeing the clip of Peter Cullen talking about how he was really hesitant about this line due to it being out-of-character for Prime. To be fair, it is. But considering the circumstances, it makes sense: The Autobots have been ousted from Earth and the Decepticons have started enslaving the planet. I think that the whole point of this is that Optimus acting out of character indicates towards something: Prime wants to fight for peace, but he knows that, in order to do so, he would have to wipe out the Decepticons, and fully commit himself to wiping them out. Not defending the "writing" of this scene. But I can see what they were trying to do. Personally, I feel like they could have not had him say that line and made him sound less like he is some bloodthirsty warrior, and it would have worked better. They could have focused less on "kill them all" and more on "they enslaved earth, so we gotta free it from them. We'll have to kill them, and that sucks. But they won't surrender, so that's on them."

Fact: Optimus VA (Peter Cullen) has stated that this was his least favorite line doing as Optimus.
You know what I feel like would've been interesting? Imagine making Optimus G1 Optimus in the first movie, and all the way up to this movie, Optimus' moral and overall goodest good guy traits just devolve until he becomes this Optimus, a hardened, battle ready, warrior.
Yeah. A lot of people thought Optimus became a killing machine after dying when prior to dying:
•He stabbed Bonecrusher in the face (mf showed no mercy to Bonecrusher, yet tried to talk things out with Megatron 💀)
•Executed Demolisher instead of keeping him alive and use him as way to rat out the Fallen.
•Ripped Grindor’s face apart as he begs for Prime to stop
Yeah they should of made Optimus start off peaceful, but in each movie his morals decreases to where it all builds up to here. Fans would of not hate Bayverse Optimus if they went down that route as it’s a lot more realistic and actually understandable: You can take so many to where you say “Enough is enough”.
Now I understand why Optimus said "We were once a peaceful race". Just look at the wreckers, that ain't peaceful.

I don’t think its as out of character as many think but it’s still sorta outta character. I think because since they may end the world for the 3rd time and are killing more than ever attends ti this idea of Optimus saying this. I don’t agree with the line choice I’m just saying.
I came here immediately after seeing the clip of Peter Cullen talking about how he was really hesitant about this line due to it being out-of-character for Prime.
To be fair, it is. But considering the circumstances, it makes sense: The Autobots have been ousted from Earth and the Decepticons have started enslaving the planet. I think that the whole point of this is that Optimus acting out of character indicates towards something: Prime wants to fight for peace, but he knows that, in order to do so, he would have to wipe out the Decepticons, and fully commit himself to wiping them out.
Not defending the "writing" of this scene. But I can see what they were trying to do. Personally, I feel like they could have not had him say that line and made him sound less like he is some bloodthirsty warrior, and it would have worked better. They could have focused less on "kill them all" and more on "they enslaved earth, so we gotta free it from them. We'll have to kill them, and that sucks. But they won't surrender, so that's on them."
