I've purchased one of the newer SF1000, with the seperate hardwired dimmer. The amount of heat it produces is completely negligible, while the convenience of having everything directly attached makes set up and expansion much simpler. Keeping in mind, in most circumstances, the grow area will have some form of air movement that should be indirectly assisting with the cooling of the drivers.
I'd be really interested in an experiment about usage of non-dedicated growlights. I own a set of LED video lights, these are optimized to have a full spectrum to achive a good colorization. The Diodes look the same, it's just a blue LED with the usual phosphoric coating. Can they be used, too? It is so difficult to assess this with LED without a spectrum analyzer, which is more expesive that the biggest growlight.
Great video pal. Very informative. Another factor that is very important is light distribution. I have a maxisun pb4000 and a spider farmer sf1000. Both are great lights. I use the sf to start smaller plants and decided to try the pb4000 to take over and finish them in the 4x4. Results thus far are comparable to my 600w hps that it replaced. My only gripe is the uneven distribution of light. It is listed as being able to cover a 4x4 area yet and it does, but there is about a 20k lux difference between plants at the edge and the ones in the middle. The result? Plants on the perimeter are doing fantastic, but the one directly in the center is light stressed as hell. I am considering purchasing another sf1000 and using the 2 sf1000 instead of the one maxisun or getting away from quantum board led and using one of the led systems that branches out for more even light distribution.
Cheers mate! I just got a SF and I grow asian vegetables inside to keep them away from all the bugs outside (dont like using chemicals on them) It's a great little affordable light.

Thanks for this great video tutorial I am currently setting up a greenhouse and I am looking into supplemental light over winter as I am concerned I will not get enough light to get good results growing tomato, cucumbers and peppers with just the sun on the greenhouse (would have put in a better spot but this was the only spot in our residential backyard) Only getting 4-5 hours of sun on the greenhouse (that is currently and I know the trajectory of the sun will change over winter so this may be even less when the sun is lower in the sky). Would one or two of these lights provide adequate supplemental lighting? The greenhouse is 4m x 2m and I will be growing the above vegetables in a dutch bucket system.
Janine Koczwara if it’s just to supplement you will probably get away with one light per meter along the length. Probably minimum 3 lights. I’d go for the 150W mars hydro just to give you that little extra output. Then run the lights however many hours before sun up you want to extend the day overlapping an hour into the light.
Janine Koczwara just my 2 cents but I would suggest using CMH (ceramic metal halide) lighting for a greenhouse situation for several reasons. Mainly and most importantly though for the fact that they can be hung up at the top of your greenhouse and not having to be hung right over the canopy of your crop. You’ll also get much better coverage with a significantly larger footprint. You can find a very good quality CMH light on Amazon for under $150 and they’re very efficient at 315 watts. Best of luck and happy growing!
Excellent light but FYI not for indoor greenhouse use. Had one set up an a small 2x2x5 greenhouse. Raised the internal temp to 105f in the first hour and half. Hated returning a product built with top of the line components, but building a forced air vent system would have defeated the purpose (high humidity) of the greenhouse. Ended up replacing with 4- 2ft t5 lights and honestly need more light. The SF 1000 is great for open air spaces, not so great for enclosed spaces.

What’s the watt draw on the “600” from the wall? The SF1000 will be more efficient than the vipar in my experience. I’ve owned vipar LEDs and haven’t been overly impressed. Sounds like your exhaust is plenty enough given the appropriate fan.
Hoocho that’s what I thought but I need to downgrade the intake to a 4” it’s causing the tent to bloat. Do you set your exhaust on a timer or is it 24/7
Hoocho I’m really trying to get the temps under control before it’s gets too hot in Los Angeles. So far it’s doable but I’m trying to hit that ideal temp of high 70s
pocketrudeboy I would keep my exhaust on 24/7 and aim to have the lights on at night in summer. Starting them when the ambient temp drops in the evening. The SF1000 will be cooler than the vipar (purely due to less watt draw), so you’ll be able to run it closer to the canopy and probably get a similar ppfd due to the reduction of distance and the inverse square law. It helps to have a fan on the canopy blowing across it and the light.

A generalised ideal operating temperature is between 40-80°C if I remember correctly. They will heat up well above that which causes a loss in efficiency and cause a diode failure. I’m not sure of the actual temperature. You’d have to factor in the diode energy input, light output, surface area of diode and passive cooling rate for the surface area of the diode.

@@MrMikeyBmore I got a kingbrite 250 (hlg knockoff from China) supposed to be the samsung diodes. It has produced very well in a 3x3
Just found your channel and i just prefer the way you come across you made my mind up iprefer the hydro
hello congratulations for the video, I have a question, I recently started to cultivate I would like to replace the hps with an LED. What advice do Mars hydro tsw 2000 or spider farmer 2000?ps. autoflowering use
I would recommend the spiderfarmer. It has better specs.
@@Hoocho thx bro 😁👍
Maxisun pb2000 exzct same price, better par 3 times the coverage
Hi, I have an 80×80×180 tent and i am thinking about buying one of those lights, is 1 TS1000 or SF1000 enough ?
Are those measurements metric? centimetres? For a 1m square tent I recommend 2 mars or 3 SF lights. So just scale that. I’d probably just keep the same amount with an 80cmx80cm as heat isn’t as much of an issue and the more light the better. To a point anyway.
@@Hoocho Thanks, yes centimeters, sorry forgot to mention. I also forgot to mention that im growing on a budget, so 2 Mars or 3 SF Leds would be quite to expensive. I wanted to know if 1 of either is enough, or do you have other suggestions for me? Does a blurple LED make more sense (like meizhi e.g) which I can switch to veg or flower ? Since the Sf and Ts are both not the strongest in the low red area. Am pretty new, so all Tips are appreciated 🤪
@@MaxMustermann-hr2tz Bro I was about to go down the same path as you. I was looking at viparspectra burples then mars hydro and spider farmer. The technology for LED grow lights moves so fast and the market is flooded with so many brands and different types of lights that it can be really overwhelming picking which is the best/efficient one for money. Try some reddit weed growing forums like microgrower/r and rollitup.com forums for LED grow lights advice.Really helpful community of hobby growers. I was about to buy a mars hydro then got pointed in the direction of kingbrites LED grow lights off alibaba. Way better, cheaper lights.
Do yourselves favors and get lights from hlg
@@pyramidion5911 I suggest Mars hydro.
This is a really good video, very informative real world information. Well done!
hey dude opinions on growcraft X6 series?
How hot gets an uncooled LED?
A generalised ideal operating temperature is between 40-80°C if I remember correctly. They will heat up well above that which causes a loss in efficiency and cause a diode failure. I’m not sure of the actual temperature. You’d have to factor in the diode energy input, light output, surface area of diode and passive cooling rate for the surface area of the diode.
@@Hoocho
I bet an LED doesn't run cooler than an HPS. It only depends on the cooling system.
How much is the one you recommended? Thank you
$216 AUD at the moment for some reason... which is really cheap... might be because of the pandemic.. don’t know. The link is in the description of the video.
@@Hoocho thank you for your reply
pink salt no worries mate!
Man jus found your vids I love the side by sides nice, man you must have 100 or more lights.what would it take to send a poor dude hell I'll be grateful for any of them. Idk I'll never be able to buy any thing like those man keep up the good work bro🙏
New subscriber, loving the videos. As mentioned with the cooling fan, you can buy very cheap brushless computer fans and marry them to a small solar panel. Both of those are on ebay for only a few dollars each. :)
Cheers mate! Yeah I just run a small fan blowing over the lights which doubles as air circulation in the grow area. It also means you can get the lights real close to the plants and circumvent the inverse square law.
i am of the belief that photosynthetic active radiation (PAR) is the most important factor in selecting a light for horticultural use
FleshWound42 absolutely, I have just invested in an apogee par meter with the latest sensor so I can do a proper review of the lights. It’s in the mail, so soon I will have a par test video.
Mars has better par
Um ... more wattage with less light isn't better in the long run. It takes more power (more $$) to get the same amount of light.
my dimmer on the sf4000 on top beside driver now
Good vid, well explained.
I enjoy my Dpyder farm 600w in my 3x3
Speed to 1.5
Thank me later :D
Or 1.75 if you like a challenge
7.25
0.5 if you`re really trying to digest it slowly or if you`ve had a drop of the hard stuff !
Thanks 👍🏻💯
Play it 0.5 and he sounds like he's been on the hooch haha.
MarsHydro own and construct Spider Farmer. You pay the same company.
Great video, explained this well for me, I am still going to go with water cooled LED, great info.
Why water cooled led, whats is the point does it worth the pennies. Is see your picture and you maybe do the same new legit things 😂 these kind of knowledge are gold.
@@gordimasta its all about heat stress, you start running multiple lights, it startrs to get hot. One water cooled rad will run 1500 watts in LED lights, with minimal heat, everything is outside the room.
@@420growers3 ok nice thanks. Im running 12 1000w hps but i never have heat stress with a good A/C. But W/C led light look like tu be a great deal for the electricity bills. No more need to cooled the rooms. Do you make some testing with a par meter? .... Sorry for all this question i am really REALLY INTEREST IN
Just found this channel after searching for spider farmer 🕸️🕷️👍🏻 I could watch you all day mate, very clear and concise.liked shared and Subscribed.
Edit - what you sipping on pal? Loop
Hoocho’s hooch 👌🏻🤙🏻
Homie is hammerd
I'm betting he could still spell hammered, though
They need more led's, it looks like there are only 10 led's.
Aweosme channel mate! Next time mention what whiskey you are getting into... mmm
Wesley Edwards it’s actually one I make myself haha!
Hoocho Can you do a vid on making whiskey please!!!
anyone else try to squish a bug on your screen but it turned out to be a buy on his table?
yo love when you unbox it lol 0:58
Ordered today :)
Do you have a loicence for that knife?
HAHA! kidding! Thanks for the informative video. Seriously considering Mars Hydro LED and tent :)
Mars has horrible customer service. Ordered a tent and light combo on 420. Never got the light, took 3 weeks to get a refund. The tent it very poor quality.
@@dennyballs20 really? I've had great experience with them. They even sent me two extra sets of yoyo ropes just for ordering lol
@@Lettusfarm i did too till things went bad. I owned 2 and sold at least 12 on my recommendation to new growers on a entry level light.
Thank you for the video. It's a massive help. Hope you don't take mind me saying, but efficacy is pronounced eff-ick-issy. Cheers again.
I was made aware after filming. Though I was too lazy to film again. There’s a note in the description.
