I just realized those aren't puppet strings but power cables, Mettaton Neo said their body's power source is why they went down in one hit and it's implied that Spamton Neo is using the same body.
Kris's response to suzie as "no" when she asks you about how you felt about the battle feels sad because of how ralsei describes kris responding as yelling
Kris's response of "yes" is even sadder because the player is forcing them to say it. Kris clearly isn't ok and never wanted to do this in the first place, but we wanted to make a deal and help a conman.
Ngl Depression hit hard when his final string was cut and he just fell dead on the floor. Even though the concept of suffering and no free will being the main crux of Tobey's games it still sucks seeing these characters fight so unnaturally hard for freedom only to get denied at the very end. While I think Spamton is a less interesting boss fight compared to Jevil (Jevil being way harder and having a way cooler character/theme) I think Spamton is superior in terms of character. You really do feel bad for this poor broken man that just wanted to be free of everything.
Poor spamton he desperately wants to live and I think that's why he wants your soul because creatures in this realm have no souls and can't pass over without one it also explains Gaster's connection the absence of a soul is required to open a gateway to this realm as shown by Kris

@Mustache Crab pretty much this, I debated giving the title a more appropriate title, but (fighting + acting) doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well. I think the current title is communicated better overall based on establishment
i think the line "do you want to be a heart on a chain your whole life" is actually really true. spamton most lilkely knew about what was happening to frisk.
I dont feel like spamton was easier than jevil, but i was definitely felt more prepared for his fight , and ralsie and suzy felt way more helpful because they can buff heal and act
i died more going up on that teacup elevator earlier in the basement (two times.) so um.. yeah probably. ..also this area and boss legitimately terrified me.
There's an alternate/genocide route where you fight spamton neo at the fountain by yourself. I'm not exactly sure but I think a nohit of that would be harder since you deal less damage per turn(since its only you) and there's no way to spare him in this fight.
look, all those bosses have a theme, jevil is the pure chaos of imagination being sealed only to get more limited for getting tired, and spamton is the feeling of being a puppet, wanting to be free only to get even more stuck, i wonder what will be the next
Wait, that wasn’t forced upon them. They changed their soul mode by themself… The heck is this kid Also, a jester in a chapter where papyrus is mentioned but not seen, a [BIG SHOT] in a chapter where Mettaton is heard but not seen… are these guys forgotten hopes and dreams? Is the next one going to be a failed comedian?
to my surprise I beat this guy on my second try (thought it would be at least 10). however, I took insane amounts of damage and used a lot of healing items. the fact you beat him without taking a single hit is the work of a master!
Even though Toby has already recycled the "ghost fight" theme before, I firmly believe spamton is part of the ghost family -napstablook -mettaton -mad dummy Etc
so I guess there's gonna be concepts shared between all secret bosses. If you pacifist them you get armor, if you beat their asses to a pulp you get a weapon and they'll all give you a shadow crystal on defeat no matter what way you take them down
Honestly, at this point Deltarune’s routes should be called “FIGHT” and “ACT” based on the way you face the secret Bosses. And any other Routes that may or may not exist should have names tied to them relating to their content.
i predicted the fact that Spamton would't survive having his wires cut, but I did not expect him to just... fall over dead. Jeez. Freaked me the hell out when I played it.
I'm fairly sure the yellow heart was also used for the mettaton ex fight so I'm happy it's back in a fight with a character that's kinda like mettaton, just insane
it pretty sad since spamton words in genocide ending tell us that his dream does not come true(pacifist does but in a exceptable way) ps*:i would say genocide route in undertale gave me a much bigger lesson also thanks toby for making such great games c:
another interesting connection to Mettaton Neo, during Metatons Neo's 'fight' when you are selecting an action it sometimes says 'the Stage Lights are Blaring' while in Spamton Neo's fight, before you take an action it sometimes will say "The stage lights are shattered" It just shows how similar, yet different they both are since Mettaton was a successful star while Spamton is a failed one
I think he's supposed to reference mettaton neo as he looks very similar and his name. His gun he tries to shoot kris with is also the same as mettatons. The yellow heart and some attacks were present in both their fights too. He even mentions the power of neo which the name of the track for mettaton neos fight.
i swear this chapter was hard as fuck i died more times than i could count lol but seeing u beat a really hard looking boss and making it look easy makes me jealous lmao but anyways nice job :)
4:50 I didn’t think much of the line when I fought him, but after finishing the game and watching this, all I can think about is how he _doesn’t_ want to be a heart on a chain, yet ever since the game started, we’ve taken over him
I feel like Deltarune Chapter 2 has a theme of Puppets. Think about it. Between Spamton, Berdly, The Werewires, and even Kris by the player, and the party to that extent. And I don't think that it's any coincidence that SnowGrave is in this chapter because of that.
Defeating Spamton Neo by fighting gives us the same result as Jevil with some things changed. Cryptic dialogue and lore, and either a new weapon or armor depending on how he went down. It's hard to call defeating him by fighting as 'genocide', that's more the Snowgrave way, just depends on if you want a weapon or armor for the next chapter. Personally, and this is just me, but I actually enjoyed fighting him more than doing the pacifist way, though I did everything else the pacifist way.
Wait I just noticed something. Spamton starts to speak without his weird brackets and form of speech during the intro after 30 secs, speaking in all caps and in broken sentences with gaps just like gaster and also what he says there is interesting. I already believe based on spamton and also Jevils behaviour that they are connected to gaster in some way as well due to some of their statements.
TBH the True Bonus Boss for me was the goddamned Teacup Ride Elevator when you need to go back up after turning down the electric field... Seriously, that thing killed me 10 times when i managed to do the entire chapter (went to Spamton on a Save File i made before fighting Queen) without dying, damn i even managed to pacify Spamton NEO at my first try! (not before emptying my entire inventory tho).
So, the "Power of NEO" is actually quite the thing, but is incapable of manifesting very well in real space, which is what lead to Mettaton NEO being a wuss.. Seems to be a case about the concept not being able to be brought to life, like a school project with no teammates, the plan to make an energy shield around the United States or Deltarune without extra workers.
So, the lore with this, Deltarune-universe Mettaton designed it in MSPaint (apparently represented by Swatch and the Swatchlings), but it was abandoned/deleted until it was found and used by Spamton
On a no mercy run, you usually want to be defending with Ralsei because he has the lowest ATK, and the TP gained is a better investment than the straight damage because it contributes to Rude Buster. That is, until you actually beat Spamton and he gains more ATK than Kris.
I love that his ramblings also call his attacks in a literal sense. Like when he says he's gonna have a heart attack and then attacks your heart with his. Or when he talks about being a Big Shot and then shoots big projectiles.
When i saw this part first i thought "since they're in a digital world, it is possible that somehow in some way, theres a game similar to Undertale in this universe and that's why in this specific chapter there's this part that looks like the ruins? Not only that, his design is like a poor attempt of Mettaton Neo, almost as if he recovered corrupted data and made a corpse out of it and has a lot of shared attacks" But who knows, aside of that, there's also this connection with Jevil which they both went crazy/corrupted after talking to this "Mysterious man" (some day it could be Gaster) and it seems they give you a "Shadow Crystal" (not sure if Jevil gives you one) and also the fact that Spamton has shared motifs of the Mettaton Neo theme and Ghost Battle one
If you talk to Swatch after fighting Spamton NEO, he tells you that Spamton's body was designed by a Lightner (with Swatch's help, since he's a digital art program), so it's very heavily implied this IS what would have been Mettaton's NEO body in this universe; it's just a digital drawing in the computer lab

@@nameless_0 apparently the defensive jevil item can be equipped on anyone, I put it on ralsei for ch2
if the chapter 3 character drops the pure crystal, it could be combined with the thorn ring from an aborted snowgrave run and become the twisted sword, which you can fuse for in the cafe in castle town (not yet though because the pure crystal doesn't exist)

Now that I think about it, Deltarune has 7 chapters, there were 7 human souls, my theory is that each secret boss represents a heart.
Jevil: Red Heart
Spamton Neo: Yellow Heart
That could happen yes, but if its true, then we will get to see the cyan and orange souls mechanic. Would be cool ngl
Uhm no its chris representing the soul. He’s using determination to stay determined in the long fight against Jevil. And Justice to stop the insane lunatic.
Not the other way around. Cause jevil isn’t determination and Spamton definitely not justice lol.
Can't wait to get the Green heart boss fight, if that's actually the case.
SANS: BLUE HEART
@@galloviking4766 It could be undyne. Since she’s close to kris’ home. And kris left the door open so the dark world will probably be leaking outside. So we might see undyne. And maybe even sans
One thing I love about this secret boss, is the fact that it´s acknowledge by the characthers after it happens, normaly in games secret boss fights are just secrets that just happens and thats it, but it seems that with each passing chapter we are gonna get some secret lore by defeat them all.
Nobody gonna talk about how Pacifist was incredibly horrifying to watch when they landed on the grou- No? Ok

Woah, really? Sounds heavy.
But then where is Kris original soul?
..
Crazy thought? Asriel might have it.
@@horrorsans3676 Kris still has it but he has to take it out whenever he creates one of these realms we see him do this in the ending quickly putting it back in before the dark world envelopes them

I'm solidly convinced he learned this from gaster
its honestly a pet peeve of mine that people sitll label attacking the enemy as genocide when you literally just cant kill normal enemies
True, tho it’s just easier using a previously established title for that type of battling, short version, don’t think about it, it won’t affect the game or video at all.
I mean, I'm pretty sure you kinda do in Chapter 2, I slashed at enemies and saw that I was level 2
@Mustache Crab pretty much this, I debated giving the title a more appropriate title, but (fighting + acting) doesn't roll off the tongue quite as well. I think the current title is communicated better overall based on establishment

There's an alternate/genocide route where you fight spamton neo at the fountain by yourself. I'm not exactly sure but I think a nohit of that would be harder since you deal less damage per turn(since its only you) and there's no way to spare him in this fight.

UT Fandom: we have mettaton neo 2.0
Toby fox: take this puppet boi
I love how spamton is basically just mettaton's weirder cousin.
Spamton's death is genuinely heart breaking
to my surprise I beat this guy on my second try (thought it would be at least 10). however, I took insane amounts of damage and used a lot of healing items.
the fact you beat him without taking a single hit is the work of a master!
Even though Toby has already recycled the "ghost fight" theme before, I firmly believe spamton is part of the ghost family
-napstablook
-mettaton
-mad dummy
Etc
Or at least part of the "somewhat-metaphysical entity inhabiting an artificial body" family
so I guess there's gonna be concepts shared between all secret bosses. If you pacifist them you get armor, if you beat their asses to a pulp you get a weapon and they'll all give you a shadow crystal on defeat no matter what way you take them down
For a genocide route you would have to actually kill the monsters, and Kris has no way of killing anyone. But perhaps there's someone who does..? 🦌

At 3:51 you can hear part of the Dummy theme! Makes sense since Spamton is supposed to be based off a ventriloquism dummy :)
I'm fairly sure the yellow heart was also used for the mettaton ex fight so I'm happy it's back in a fight with a character that's kinda like mettaton, just insane
Sheeesh it even used a leitmotif from ghost fight, which is napstablook's battle theme who has some kind of relationship with mettaton
Spamton NEO
His soundtrack it's look like napstackblook + Mettaton NEO
I thought..
Also a little bit of jevil music
every boss soundtrack combined with jojo

and don't forget metallic madness from sonic cd
it pretty sad since spamton words in genocide ending tell us that his dream does not come true(pacifist does but in a exceptable way)
ps*:i would say genocide route in undertale gave me a much bigger lesson
also thanks toby for making such great games c:
another interesting connection to Mettaton Neo, during Metatons Neo's 'fight' when you are selecting an action it sometimes says 'the Stage Lights are Blaring' while in Spamton Neo's fight, before you take an action it sometimes will say "The stage lights are shattered"
It just shows how similar, yet different they both are since Mettaton was a successful star while Spamton is a failed one
I think he's supposed to reference mettaton neo as he looks very similar and his name. His gun he tries to shoot kris with is also the same as mettatons. The yellow heart and some attacks were present in both their fights too. He even mentions the power of neo which the name of the track for mettaton neos fight.
i swear this chapter was hard as fuck
i died more times than i could count lol
but seeing u beat a really hard looking boss and making it look easy makes me jealous lmao
but anyways nice job :)
well shoot im the opposite, first play through i died only like 6-7 times.
Damn i feel such pride for having no death first playthrough, except for a few knockdown (fuck you werewerewerewire)
Glad to see Mettaton is still alive.
It is surprising how we were able to possibly squeeze everything we can out in Chapter 2 in only a couple of weeks.
4:50
I didn’t think much of the line when I fought him, but after finishing the game and watching this, all I can think about is how he _doesn’t_ want to be a heart on a chain, yet ever since the game started, we’ve taken over him
I feel like Deltarune Chapter 2 has a theme of Puppets.
Jevil motif, even his theme used toby's voice samplings
On a no mercy run, you usually want to be defending with Ralsei because he has the lowest ATK, and the TP gained is a better investment than the straight damage because it contributes to Rude Buster. That is, until you actually beat Spamton and he gains more ATK than Kris.
I feel sad for him in the pacifist ending...
looking at the lore of spamton and sans I'm convinced the most coolest characters are all depressed
Spamton looks like Coraline’s Other Mother when he dies in pacifist.
"Dark, dark, yet darker"
"Big, big, bigger and better"
Paranoia.
tip: the words in the [square brackets] hint toward the attack he uses,
keep an eye for words in the [square brackets]!
I love that his ramblings also call his attacks in a literal sense. Like when he says he's gonna have a heart attack and then attacks your heart with his. Or when he talks about being a Big Shot and then shoots big projectiles.
I like how This Guy Walks Like Minecraft Steve Lol
undertale:bad time
deltarune:big shot
the part that confuses me the most is how kris manifested the justice trait out of nowhere
NOW YOUR REALLY A BIG SHOT!
when you realize the "genocide" isn't the real genocide version of this fight...
you can fight him in snowgrave route,at the fountain too, except its an only kris version so you dont got your friends
When i saw this part first i thought "since they're in a digital world, it is possible that somehow in some way, theres a game similar to Undertale in this universe and that's why in this specific chapter there's this part that looks like the ruins? Not only that, his design is like a poor attempt of Mettaton Neo, almost as if he recovered corrupted data and made a corpse out of it and has a lot of shared attacks"
But who knows, aside of that, there's also this connection with Jevil which they both went crazy/corrupted after talking to this "Mysterious man" (some day it could be Gaster) and it seems they give you a "Shadow Crystal" (not sure if Jevil gives you one) and also the fact that Spamton has shared motifs of the Mettaton Neo theme and Ghost Battle one
Spamton NEO...
I can hear The Power of NEO and Vs Mad Dummy in his theme
there’s also some World revolving in there
Of course someone's already done it. Just incredible work.
I just realized the way the spam tons are ordered they look like Asgors fork
I should’ve known that deltatune in a chapter about cybernetic stuff would’ve had a NEO form
11:30 So is this what they mean by the secret boss of each chapter revealing the antagonist for the next chapter? I've heard a lot about mike, but now it's brought up in the battle itself.
there's a lot of people wondering how a no hit run surfaced in the last 48 hours since chp 2's release:
*some people like to play touhou on lunatic difficulty and enjoy it*
Never played touhou, what is lunatic difficulty?
since the soul is supposed to be us. it turning into the yellow soul once it saw spamton looking like mettaton makes a whole lot more sense.
You forgot about the true genocide form. It's a 1v1 but you get a double tap move
This is not only impressive that not only did this come out so quickly within the initial release, but also because they didn't even use the OP Cheese method to beat him hitless
Sure you can no-hit the bossfight, but can you no-hit the goddamned hellevator before it?
12:13 *the way Kris spins 💀*
