Anita is THE best! Toni can sang. But Babyface write songs for her to keep her voice a certain way, that low register. But there is not comparison between the two. I LOVE Toni. But I like her for being Toni. I never compared the two cause Ms Anita is NO joke. That whole Live you are watching is DA BOMB!
This whole love concert is amazing…Same Ole Love and Been So Long are other favorites from this concert. I got to see her live on her compositions tour and it was one of the best concerts I’ve been too. Fairytale, Soul Inspiration and Lonely are some of my other favs by her.

Anita sings like she's in Church feeling the Holy Spirit!!!! Toni sings to impress. Anita is not singing to impress she is singing because she is feeling the meaning and spirit of the song...like she's in Church....eyes closed.....swaying from side- to- side. Grabbing her dress. Eyes closed. Like you see most great gospel singer perform in church. That's the difference!!!

Toni Braxton and Anita Baker basically came out around the same time.....Anita was in a group called Chapter 8 and then she broke solo and came out with an album yeaaaaaars prior to this album but a lot of people did not know about her.
Toni Braxton was not inspired by Anita Baker it was MARY J BLIGE that was inspired by her.
What happened was before Toni came out with her 1st album La & Babyface had a song they had wanted to give to Anita. When Anita heard it it was Toni Braxton on the Tape singing the demo.
Anita turned it down and said to give it to the girl that is singing on the Demo tape and that' what they did and the song became a hit for Toni.
That was the situation that went on between them but as far as the inspiration, NO, for The BRAXTONS were singing like they do in church before they knew about an Anita Baker.
Anita baker was out long before Toni B, and some of the songs Toni first sang were written for Anita but she passed on them. Anita was recording albums in the late 1970s, and first solo album in 1983, before her smash Rapture album in 1986 then others and many duets in R&B and Gospel.. Toni Braxton first album wasn’t out until in 1993.
I must correct you on some things. Anita and Toni did not come out around the same time. Anita first came out in the late 70's with Chapter 8. Her first solo album was in 1983. Toni's first album was in 1993. Yes, Anita was a huge inspiration on Toni. Toni has always said that in interviews. She said Anita is her favorite artist on Braxton Family Values. In her book she talks about hearing Anita the first time with Chapter 8 and how she had to sneak the album in the house and listen to it. She has always been open about Anita being her biggest inspiration. Yes, Mary J. was influenced by Anita as well.
Toni is a sultry strong alto with a contalto tone. Anita is a mezzo soprano with a contralto tone. Toni' s more like Phyllis Hyman
Wow, you actually wondered who's going to see Anita Baker? Anita has been selling out arenas for decades. Babyface was a very successful artist, but an even bigger writer and producer. That's mostly his claim to fame. He wasn't known for selling out arenas. To this day, Anita sells out concert venues. Her recent tour was sold out even before she announced Babyface as the special guest.
