  • I recently got to ride my buddies brand new canyon CFR at snowshoe bike park and test this bike out so I wanted to let you all know how it's going to ride for the average mountain bike rider. Best way that I can describe this bike is like Jekyll and Hyde because of the trail mode And the non-trail mode this bike has two completely different personalities, depending on which mode you're running at. In this video I'm going to mainly be talking about just the performance of the bike versus the individual components spec because this does have a top-tier parts spec so obviously all of these complements are gonna perform phenomenally and you're not gonna really have to upgrade anything on this bike if you do purchase it. Also, just for reference I am riding a medium in the canyon CFR. Definitely check the size chart for this one because I typically ride a large, but this is a very long bike. This medium is actually longer than my usual large that I ride.
So obviously I was at a lift accessed bike park so I didn't get to take this bike on any long climbs however, what I did was run in the pedal mode on the more mellow, terrain just to see how this bike would perform as your average every day trail bike. In the short travel mode, this bike was insanely lively, playful, and Poppy and was super easy to get in the air. It was insanely fun and just all in all a really enjoyable ride. I definitely would love to take this out on a regular trail because it carries its weight and size extremely well and honestly rides like a smaller and shorter travel bike. Honestly, if I was to purchase this bike, I would leave it in this mode unless I was riding some really technical terrain, or going to a lift accessed park because it's so much fun just riding in the shorter travel setup. I didn't get to take it on any long climbing trails but I did take it up a few paved roads and gravel Hills just to see how it did. It felt like it put you and in really comfortable climbing position. It Didn't have a lot of pedal bob, and honestly climbed really comfortably and with no fuss. I'd like to see how it performs on longer, tighter and technical climbs.
Flip it into the open mode, and the bike takes on a whole new personality . The Bike becomes very planted in composed even in the rockiest and rootiest terrain! It still feels smooth and just eats up chunky terrain with ease. This bike is definitely is a bike that inspires confidence even when you get a little over your head. This is a bike that wants to go as fast as possible through the roughest terrain, all the while doing it quiet and completely composed and smooth. It rides just like a Downhill Bike, and honestly makes steep and rocky terrain easier.
This definitely isn't a Bike that I would pick for freeride or more jump oriented Trail's because it needs a little more effort to get off the ground in the open setting. It feels really good on the landings, but it just mainly wants to stay on the ground and plow through whatever terrain you're taking it through. Also, where this bike is a long bike, it does feel more sluggish in tight corners trying to get it around, than some other bikes that I've ridden with shorter back end, but then it gains speed like crazy in the straights.
I think this bike would be suited for an aspiring racer or somebody who is just literally looking for two bikes in one to have a trail bike to use every day, and then be able to put it into that longer travel setting when you do go visit a bike park or more gnarly terrain. This is definitely one of my favorite bikes I have ever ridden, and if I had the money, I would totally buy one right now with no hesitation . How tall are you? I’m back and forth between a large and medium.

I’m 5’10. My buddies was a medium and I thought it would be too small but it was perfect. It’s got a longer cockpit than my current large Capra. I came so close to buying one of these when they were on sale and was torn between the 2 sizes as well but after much debate that’s why I didn’t get one because the medium sold out and I was afraid I’d be too stretched out on the large.

@@BoardsBikesAndHikes thank you! I’m 6’1” and I’ve heard some people my height going to a medium and I was starting to get freaked out. I have this bike in my cart and I’ve been hesitant to pull the trigger and regret I get the wrong size. I’m going with the large. Wish me luck!

@@nickdipietro5163 ahhhhh gotcha! I think at 6’1 you’ll be fine. You’re gonna love it, it’s such a beast of a bike.

I'm 6f10in too and choose the medium. I did a couple of short trips an it is short for shure. I thing i will give it 20mm more stem length (40-->60mm) and it will be perfect. I guess the Large would be to big, especially the pedals will to far back in Large. It is a very special geometrie for shure!

@@georgbarth777 dang. Ya hopefully that will give you the extra length you need. Ya it’s definitely a weird geometry compared to most. Quite different than any other bike I’ve ridden
