The beill sounds OK. It seems to have an air whistle sound, which would be correct, NOT a diesel air horn. The sound of the propulsion system is completely wrong, sorta sounds like a diesel. Completely lacks the traction motor whine, and the loud high pitched screech of the cooling blowers, the reason these engines were called Jets. The blowers sounded like the hybrid of a giant electric drill and vacuum cleaner.
I am not crazy about this particular EP-5 model because I don't like the way the pilot separates from the nose of the engine when it's making a turn. It's doesn't look realistic; doesn't look authentic. And it's too toy-like. But, it's still a nice model though - it' just not for me.
I have the old Lionel one from the 50's. I like it better; it's front is beat up making look more realistic.

Actually, on these EP-5's, the "Hancock Horn" as they are called, was how they did sound. :)
Holy Crap
the ep5 has a weird sounding horn. actually, i can't tell if it's a whistle or a horn

Would not buy because it is not kid friendly. Too many things to program. For my nephews I will continue to buy Lionel Lionchief
Too loud for this train for my son
