    I remember watching this series and being instilled with confidence. So I started to "build" an 03 Honda F4i I got for $600 non running. A factory fuel pump from a Ford F150 Harley Davidson(plugged right in, just had to modify the filter for pick up)later and it ran and rode great. Ebay fairings, bolt kit, tires, fluids, gaskets, covers, levers, grips...every little bit later. $1800 for a sweet looking F4i. Sold it for $3500 and bought a 2015 Kawasaki Vulcan S.

    Very similar story with mine. Paid $1,500 for an '02 954rr with 28,000 mi. from someone who thought it had too many issues to deal with. Replaced steering stem bearings, chain and sprockets, deleted the exhaust flapper and replaced the ostrich skin seat with an OEM from ebay. All-in was $1,850. Rode it for 9 months and made a straight trade for an '03 RC-51, which was a bucket-list bike for me.

    Did you try sandblasting the chrome? Maybe you said you did in a previous episode and I missed it, but Harbor Freight has some pretty cheap blasting cabinets or there's probably a shop nearby that could do it for you.
    Having it sandblasted is also perfect paint prep too so win win remove chrome and be ready for paint.

    For the money you have in it that is pretty good. Free fairings and existing good tires helped a whole lot. To go much further dechroming it would put you upside down financially but it seems a worthy project for a nice bike like that.

  • @Psykam
    @Psykam 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    DONT USE DIESEL OIL IN YOUR BIKES ANYMORE
    They recently removed the ingredients that helped maintain wet clutches in motorcycles for emissions purposes. One of the main ones is zinc if I remember correctly. USE MOTORCYCLE OIL, DONT CHEAP OUT.

    • @bad001bd
      @bad001bd 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Late, but this is complete bullshit. Motorcycle specific oil (or really any oil these days) won't have much zinc (or phosphorus) because those elements are hard on catalytic converters. Nothing in the JASO specs require a minimum of zinc, in fact, they have a limit on zinc specified.

    • @dadboddamien
      @dadboddamien 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Like Ben said... As long as it's JASO certified you're good to go in a bike

    Awesome. Had an 04 f4i I bought wrecked with title for $500 and all it would up needing was a stator cover ($90) and a headlight ($100) my brother had a friend that did fiberglass work and fixed the front cowl and I bondo'd the rest of the plastics. Rattle canned the plastics and had less than $750 in it

    Personally I would check the tire manufacture date on the sidewall. I know you said they were put on in 15-16 but if they sat in a dealer for a year or two before being put on the bike they could be 5-6+ years old. Motorcycle tires are pron to get hard as they age (especially for softer sport bike tires) and that means reduced grip. I trust you know what you're doing but tires are the last thing I'm willing to skimp on. Great job on the build, cheers!

    It's actually sad that you had to rescue that bike and restore it yourself. That's an eye-wateringly low price for bringing a bike back to life without cheaping out! Of course you got the fairings for a review, but still...if you had to buy them, you still would've gotten a running 954RR for less than $2000. Amazing! 🥳 God bless!🙏

    I've had a 2007 600RR just like your model I had to sell now I want to go back I'm in doubt 600 or 954? what are your impressions? Does the 954 really feel like the 600's feel in weight and handling with more power? I also like the F4i but since I've had RR for a while, I wanted to experience the feel of 954 it's very seductive I count on your help hug
