An extremely early build of Super Mario 64, I'm surprised this footage even still exists due to it probably being discarded by Nintendo themselves.
One thing to note is that Luigi doesn't seem to be implemented yet.

This is accurate to the history of mario 64's development originally the levels were linear and short . This was told in the mario 64 Japanese strategy guide were myamoto was asked about the games development.

I like the detail of the instruments being generic ones indicating that they didn't make a custom soundfont for the game yet
Edit: SM64 doesn't use a custom soundfont, I'm just an idiot.
It would just be called instruments, using soundfont when talking about actual games is an incorrect term.
@@A2Adam Thank you for finally saying this. I know it's a silly thing to think about, but people often throw it around the same way as calling any realtime sequencing "MIDI."
I think about this too, some people even say soundfonts of games that use real time instruments or use vsts in siivagunner comments

What's insane to me is that since 64 was supposed to used the traditional flagpole system rather than power stars if they actually went through with it all the other 3D Mario games could've potentially used a flagpole too. It's hard to imagine games such as Odyssey having a flag rather than power moons

I like how this is actually acurate to the actual development story of Mario 64. Before doing big sand box levels with multiple stars, the levels were smaller, lineal and had a flagpole at the end.

@nicknetwork118 this is the music when you lay in your bathtub filled with hot steamy water as the room is filled with steam and you almost fall asleep.
Actually 2:45 sounds more emotional than the water theme

The hub music is creepier than any of the silly ‘scary’ Mario 64 beta videos. So unsettling. Love it.
actually tho, like it was likely meant to sound fancy and royal but it just comes off as unsettling and oddly nostalgic. Its those 3 notes at 2:47 that weird me out personally
