The next OC doesn’t need to be like Ben. We have the necessary talent to be able to run a vanilla run game/play action game and beat defenses with the same thing. But I trust Tanner will have good ideas. I’m more concerned about the defensive staff we get as well as the health. Hope we can focus on defense in the draft.

If the Lions didn't prep someone to fill in after Ben left then they're idiots. This was the 3rd offseason where BJ was on the market. A loss of at least four coaches including OC, DC, DL +??? I have an 4.5 of 5 concern! In the workplace just one new manager is a disruptive event that takes several months to figure out and couple years to get comfortable with expectations. Coaching is even more disruptive as the players and coaches need to mesh well to reduce mistakes on the field. Im not confident we’re making the playoffs next season! 2026 has no cap space for keeping players coming off rookie contracts. Look at San Francisco, after Super Bowl released just the Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilkes and 4 other coaches left and they have a 6-11 record. The core players are still there. 1991 lions were 12-4 followed by 6-10 season. Dare I say we’re more likely going to have a reset mode and wouldn’t be surprised with a 7-10 record and last place in division. No team have that big of changes and expect instant success. I would not be shocked if we replaced 1-2 coaches after next season due to low production. I fear we missed the opportunity to get to the Super Bowl for a few years.
Yeah this is a better gig than becoming a HC working for a disfunctional organization with less defensive talent with an owner who makes you play games in Europe during a regular season (Jaguars).
I like Ben Johnson, but he is too unpredictable for me. Opening Drive, two straight runs with an MCL Sprained Montgomery? 3rd and 1 with NO Back, and result is forced fumble? Jamo Trick Play? Uncessary Pick Six by throwing deep on Zone coverage. Most OC's would have just run the rock with Gibbs! And occasional Goff screen passes and short hook, curl, and cross routes.
