The next OC doesn’t need to be like Ben. We have the necessary talent to be able to run a vanilla run game/play action game and beat defenses with the same thing. But I trust Tanner will have good ideas. I’m more concerned about the defensive staff we get as well as the health. Hope we can focus on defense in the draft.

  • @RevonChaoz

We have the talent, there will be a step back and some acclimation but I expect this team to compete and still win at least 10 games. This years loss hurt more emotionally but logically last years was more brutal. Watching the player interviews post game where they look in shock while you can also hear the commanders celebrating in the background was soul-devouring.

A loss of at least four coaches including OC, DC, DL +??? I have an 4.5 of 5 concern! In the workplace just one new manager is a disruptive event that takes several months to figure out and couple years to get comfortable with expectations. Coaching is even more disruptive as the players and coaches need to mesh well to reduce mistakes on the field. Im not confident we’re making the playoffs next season! 2026 has no cap space for keeping players coming off rookie contracts. Look at San Francisco, after Super Bowl released just the Defensive Coordinator Steve Wilkes and 4 other coaches left and they have a 6-11 record. The core players are still there. 1991 lions were 12-4 followed by 6-10 season. Dare I say we’re more likely going to have a reset mode and wouldn’t be surprised with a 7-10 record and last place in division. No team have that big of changes and expect instant success. I would not be shocked if we replaced 1-2 coaches after next season due to low production. I fear we missed the opportunity to get to the Super Bowl for a few years.

I like Ben Johnson, but he is too unpredictable for me. Opening Drive, two straight runs with an MCL Sprained Montgomery? 3rd and 1 with NO Back, and result is forced fumble? Jamo Trick Play? Uncessary Pick Six by throwing deep on Zone coverage. Most OC's would have just run the rock with Gibbs! And occasional Goff screen passes and short hook, curl, and cross routes. Offensive was humming. No need to force it down the field. But Johnson was showboating for his HC Job. Belichick himself said it's a total distraction to interview in the playoff. And dont even get me started on Glenn...

6:46 is it possible for Rico to be more of an idiot when it comes to the Detroit lions? He's questioning if Brad Holmes is going to draft more 'fun players' like receivers, running backs, and tight ends instead of, presumably what he feels like they need, offensive and defensive lineman. Brad Holmes has had four drafts. In those four giraffes he has drafted two running backs, one in the first round, one in the 7th round, three wide receivers, one in the first round, one in the fourth round, one in the 7th round, and two tight ends, one in the second round, and one in the fifth round. Do you know how many offensive lineman he has drafted? 4. A first rounder, a fourth rounder, a 5th rounder, and a 6th rounder.
He has drafted seven defensive lineman by my count. A first rounder, two second rounders, 2 3rd rounders, and two six rounders.
The man just has no idea what he's talking about, and every time he opens his mouth he shows it.

I don't know that I stack that on the losses like Mike is saying at this point. We're not okay, no. But Dan and Brad have earned enough trust at this point to "wait and see" even though Mike hates that. Prevent lateral moves, but let a guy go if you can't promote him based on what you know about the guy.

The new DC will have their own d-line coach in mind,( more than likely) so that doesn't scare me... The only thing that is truly worrisome is that Ben Johnson, is gone and there's not very many OC that can replace his creativity. However let's be fair most OC haven't been given the freedom to create in a way that Dan Campbell gave to Ben Johnson . 🤔 Just food for thought.

Aaron Glenn's overrated as a DC. Although I believe he will actually have a good chance of being a great head coach. But truth be told, a horrible Lions defense 3 years in a row and they swapped out players every season, then they finally start to have an ok D for part of one season...
Does Aaron deserve credit for that? Who really made the last defense better? Was it Brad Holmes or Aaron Glenn?
    We'll see.
