If I was San Martin I would make a miniature accurate GS homage diver (because the GS uses the spring drive). This could be done by using a high precision quartz movement. The case could be in titanium with 40mm x 12mm dimensions. That would be a best seller for SM.
I live in Africa and access to Seiko's puts the price up by nearly double, after import duty and shipping, so I tried an Ali X San Martin. Somehow they circumvent the costs and I got my first SM for $130. I have ten more now, all for under 2k. Poss best watch investment I ever made. Yes, I have had Rolex, Omega and Tudor's etc. Never again though.
The Watcher has a really good A to B comparison between the original which he owns and the newer one. Bottom line is they had to save money somehow. From memory The Watcher preferred some features of the original and some of the new. I'm pretty sure he thought the original bracelet was better but remarked it would fit the new head, so perhaps overall he prefers the newer head (except for the lack of drilled lugs) and the old bracelet? Personally I think it looks a bit bulky in the sales pics but better on wrist. I wear some pretty big divers but it just looks bulky somehow (pics) which with the oddly positioning of the Date window put me off at the old price, maybe for under £200 though....
I've bought the V1 when SM was selling off the last ones on the shelf. The big points of V2 are 1. the deep black dial and 2. the on the fly clasp. The major flaws for me are the (for such a diameter) way too small hour indices and the missing power reserve indicator: this watch has a very empty dial!
@@ShinyThings The diameter of the round indices of the GS is significantly bigger. And there's the power reserve too. My assumption is that they've used the indices which were produced for the Cronos Bathyscaphe homage to cut a corner...
@ that’s fair, just judging by how it comes across in the video, visually to me they look super similar on video. Obviously different screw set up though
Thank you for your excellent channel that I always enjoy watching and support for you my friend as it is in my opinion a professionally well established channel. As a San Martin customer and collector of said brand I strongly belief that this watch regardless of my appreciation of San Martin fell from the scale of grace for what San Martin could have done much better. Only like the on the fly adjustment clasp, the case back and lume, the rest of the watch to me is a no go..
@ The lug to lug to lug and the thickness has to be in a mouth more tapered measure. This watch looks more like a department store bulky watch that would sell for $90 U S dollars, sorry but is not what I expected of SM as they have made consistent improvements however with this one they have fallen two steps behind in their ‘ standard ‘ ..
That's actually a good thing cause service or repair is cheaper 😊 you want a better movement buy install it , they sell them on ali also And everyone is happy 😊
$240.00 USD for a Aliexpress Seiko NH35 that sells for $39.95 USD, with the same case & bracelet that's on dozens of Chinese homage watches. Sorry but no thanks!
That case and bracelet isn't on any other AliEx watches. If it were it'd be $250+ and $500+ if it were a microbrand. The fit and finish of SM, especially the newer ones is excellent
@@cedarcanoe For one thing old man, if you could say that to my face in person you would have the big mouth with no teeth. Watch what you say to a MAN!
ok now they have done it .... this will be my first san martin watch , i really like it
I pulled the trigger on my first San Martin watch last year. VERY happy customer here. About to buy my 4th one this month.
I had the 1st version with SW200 movement but only comes with the black rubber strap from San Martin. Extremely high quality 🎉

It’s a great watch , I bought the blue dial version . Love it .
I actually love the Nh35 movement
I have this GS and this appears to be a very respectable looking homage.
@jaysdad420 Lucky you! 🙂 I would love to get my hands on SBGH289 🙂. Looking on eBay UK and the best I can find is about £4k (used of course).
Hope they make a smaller one
Not sure if I can pull this off with the male end links at 55.2mm. My wrist is 6.85". Tempted but think I will pass... for now
That's the same bracelet sizing system that omega use, with the screws just being caps.
Looks great. I just wish they made it in 40mm with a red dial and blue bezel with a PT5000 and 21mm lugs

Looks nice but a shame they didn't lume the bezel numerals . Cheers
I have version one, better bracelet and movement, prefer the newer clasp tho
My first San Martin it is excellent
Thanks for another great review! The watch looks way more expensive than the actual price tag. It's on my shopping list.
@userw-f7c Thank you for watching!
I am seriously thinking about buying this beauty
Hey, I just bought that watch with the blue face using your link! Hope you get your commission, and fingers crossed I love it.
They also changed the lugs. First generation had drilled lugs if I remember right, in the new version they removed the drilled lugs.
Damn. I love drilled lugs...😢

V1 was a bit of a flop due to the high price, which really made sense. This looks like a more realistically priced option. Nice.

@giorgiodelpalatinato6718 Thanks for the feedback! I agree with your points, although the dial design I can't exactly be blamed on SM 🙂.

San Martin top top top❤
My next want have SM
Many thanks for beautiful unbiased and honest revew of beautiful watch .
@nizarmurar Thank you for watching!
Looks like the same bracelet as the SN0144 to be honest, but with the older push button micro adjust clasp rather than their newer glide lock style.
@thetattedpharmacist3215 The bracelet is also wider and has different link connection design.

It's not twice the quality when they've downgraded the movement from a pt5000 to an nh35.
Good review. Nice looking watch. I like the size.
It looks nice. A lot of Rolex homage in this Bad boy. San martin are hitting them out of the park recently. Going from strength to strength.
SM year of the Snake guilloche dial...thank me later...

The bracelet screws are also too small and the watch would be better in a thickness at 12.5 mm
Nice. But huge.
205 grams. My hand hurts already.
It's very heavy!
@TheBimmer74 GS SBGH289 is 206g
San Martin ruined me with the sn0144🥺🤣
😮
Not paying > 150$ for a NH35 anymore.

not all are the same dude, movement is just a part, sm finish their watches up to 11
Your reaction is rude and not correct at all. I guess you’re a big mouth newbee to watches.
