  • This video reviews the heat exchange sub-assembly for the V3 wood gasifier. The heat exchange is an important sub-assembly that provides the pre-heating of the air intake and circulates hot gas around the pyrolysis liner of the reactor to help turn raw fuel wood into charcoal for combustion.

it is great to see someone working on gasification with such a detailed specs. Can I have a question? if you connect the heat exchanger between the reduction zone (about 1000C I suppose) directly to the pyrolysis zone (suggested 400-500) how do you manage to control pyrolysis temperature? I understand pyrolysis temperature is very important so that you dont get hard to crack tars, as it happens when you heat it higher than 600C

The temp in the combustion chamber is about 1000C, but then drops as it enters reduction zone. By the time the gas exits the reduction chamber is has cooled down in the 400-500C range. The amount of air in the system determines the temperature of the combustion chamber.

Is there a way to make this lighter weight for a marine application?

is that enoght for the heat exchange at the air intake? i would make it much lager.. but i have no clou...

When leak testing. Are you drilling a hole a putting port to pressurize? like with an M40 nitrogen tank with refrigeration ports? then remove after you know its not leaking and replace with threaded cap?

We use low pressure air for leak testing. Soap and water on the welds t look for leaks.

What will the gas out put of this unit be? What size generator will it power?

This design supports generators from about 3KW to 2KW
