    My planting corn in 62 entailed me watching the grown ups do it. You were just a young en' back then, too. As fun to watch now, as it was back then. Thanks for the memories.

    In 1962 Dad planted with a H, and a 4 row IHC planter with steel wheels.
    We cultivated with a 4 row on the M, and a 2 row on the H. Times changed a bit.
    Thanks Pete.

    Pete, I bought an International 56 planter this spring from my old boss. Your videos have been extremely helpful and are the best information I have found about the 56 planter. I planted just a small plot of corn and for as rough of shape as my planter is in it did amazing. I am planning to go over it good this winter and get it all ready to plant next season. I would love to ask you a few questions sometime if possible as I am new to planting and the 56 planter. Thanks. -Nick

    In 1962, I planted corn with a WD and a 290 planter. I had to have the corn done before going on senour class trip to NY and Washington .

    We had a 56 planter too. Dry fert. Insectide boxes and herbicide boxes. Didn't always use herb. Boxes. Pulled with a 460. Last few years with 706D. Then we went to 800. Good planter too.

      I think the 800 is under rated as far as planters go.

    Wow I just come across this and final 450 with a 56 corn planter I can remember doing that back in the middle '70s and yes I was a kid then and we had a 4row 56 corn planter and yes planted a lot of corn then in West Central Wisconsin roughly about 150 acres with it a year sometimes more of the 200 acres but then I remember getting a used international 400 6 year old corn planter around 1980 just says the 800 planters come out and also use the 450 for that but then it was a little more weight so we end up putting the 856 tractor on it which my dad bought 856 brand new in 1968 and that was the main tractor or the biggest one on the farm until 1977 when we got a used 1456 and that was quite a brute also! And on the home Farm my brother has it both of them tractors yet and I myself when I farmed I had an international 800 corn planter 6row which I still have and I know my brother and a home Farm which my dad before him bought a 900 6row and later on updated to a 950 but now plants with a 12 row and I myself I still have my 800 6 row

    • @farmerpete
      @farmerpete  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have a lot of good memories watching a 56 plant. We have always had AC tractors but the drill was JD and the planter was a IH 56. My series 2 D15 was a nice match for it. I now plant with a White 5100 and a 185. Great combination.

    • @farmerpete

    I got the same planter,minus the gandy boxes and the markers. Have a retractable pipe and chain combo, hang the chain in the last row planted. Clamps to the front weights.

    Pete: Love the purr of that Farmall. That era engine reminds me of our family farm in the 60’s. I have a McCormick 295 planter that I still use for food plots for deer. We’re too far north to get harvestable corn for the cows but we do pretty good with small grains like oats and barley using similar legacy equipment. I had to invest in newer tractors though. Love AC in my ‘old age’😊.

    Hey Pete I have a question for you. Could you show how the marker arms work on that planter? We have a 56 too that has never had the arms on it so I put them on tonight and they were either down with both or you had to get off the tractor and pull one down and the other rises. Thanks

    • @farmerpete
      @farmerpete  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure. Does the one you installed look like mine with the little steel balls on the chain and the rubber flapper that switches arms? The older 56s had a different system, used latches that held the arms up and alternated.
