When I tell alexa “ dim the bedroom light” or “kettle on” etc whilst playing youtube, it stops TH-cam complrtrly and screen doesnt go back to the video. I have to google and search everything from the beginning (go back / goback to TH-cam Also doesnt work) What canI do?
This is a very practical device in my opinion. Performance wise, it is super efficient with the mediatek chip. Alexa too works well making it worth its price
At first it sounded creepy that it tracks your movements. But this mediatek powered Amazon device is brimming with technology and is such an interesting thing for video calls.
Hello Justin, just received my Echo 10, works great, I agree a better Smart Device Home Screen would be better, have also found a negative, if the light is low in the room that you have the device such as mine is in the Familyroom, the motion does not work and a message comes on the screen “ light to low for motion” so if I am watching TV I have to turn on a brighter light to get the motion to operate. I hope they can change this in a future update. Otherwise this is a great Echo Show
Ohhhh wow I didn't even think to test in low light - I'll have to test on my end. Yea, this should be something they address asap. Maybe a lamp nearby to illuminate people close to the screen would be good.
When I'm watching Netflix and I ask the Echo Show to turn on the lights, it interrupts my viewing by changing the screen to Smart Home, so I then need to swipe back. Amy way of getting rid of this so it just does my command without the screen changing?
Great review. Regarding the smart home interface, I think the devices in a tiled layout would work best, with them expanding when you tap on them to provide more control over them. What's the refresh rate on the screen? It still looks a tad sluggish when navigating through menus.
I dont know the refresh rate, good question. I'll ask. It's a bit sluggish, but wayyyy better than its predecessor. I think an interface like you said would be great. Something that shows off the entire home or room.
at 7:15 you mention all devices getting the incoming calls. On any of them that you don't use for outgoing calls, you can turn this off under Settings- Devices- DeviceName- Communications -> Disabled

I own a Echo Show 2nd gen, it has a Zigbee Hub built in. I also own Philips Hue Bulbs and I use the Hub to control those lights. This new Echo Show 10 has a built in Zigbee Hub so the answer is yes. However, I have heard others mention that the Philips Hub allows you to do more things with your Hue products than will the Echo Show’s hub. Now perhaps with this newest Echo Show 10 the Zigbee feature set might be more robust. Who knows.
I would keep the Hub. It allows you more control and overall, the Hue app is a better app to work in to create scenes. Also you will need the bridge if you want to use Homekit as well or any Hue sync features.
Great review. The smart home dashboard needs a big update and a better way to add products instead of skills and discovery. But it seems great for a family kitchen device! And a indoor security cam!!

you tried putting it in spanish?..,,...I went to change it today for the same one because when I put it in Spanish nothing appears on the screen ..... but when I put it in English if things appear in the screen..

I had to raise it on a pedestal in my kitchen to get over the stuff on the counter and also to get the screen at a better angle for viewing the room from afar. Maybe the next one will have a camera that actually tilts. One thing I found is that you can say "Alexa, turn to the right" and it will turn. Also to the left. Handy if it's trying to follow someone else.
Thanks for the informative blog. I received my echo show 10, so far I've had more enjoyment in setting it up! One of the main reason I brought the show was to do Skype video calling. The show says skype isn't activated yet! I tried to log into my audible account and it asked me to activate voice purchasing which i didn't want to do. So it will be just a bit of tech gathering dust in the corner. Thanks again , love watching you and your blog x
Really nice cinematography in this review! This Echo Show still doesn't look like it's got 'iPad level responsiveness'. If they could update the smart home software it would definitely make it more compelling. It's not currently available in New Zealand so I won't be buying one anyway!
I hated my show 10(the one in this video). It was terrible at hearing my commands, glitchy, kept locking up and crashing. It also had really crappy screens for showing relevant information that I wanted out of a smart display. I returned it.
Fire tablets already have pretty good command center, not perfect, few issues has to be solved but it is there already, maybe something like this could be implemented on echo shows

It also spies on you (maybe not in the same capacity) but it tracks your browsing and collects that data and sells it. Not saying this is a good thing, but it has been happening to us for years. Having this device is no different than having a smart phone, except you can close off the camera on this device but you can't do that on your iphone.
The full speed of the AZ1 processor hasn't been harnessed, but the new processor is faster and it shows. The way I explained it is called honesty. Wait until you see my Echo Frames video....I'm not an "Amazon shill."

I absolutely love it!! My only criticism is the huge 2009 looking bezel that goes around the whole screen.

I actually havent tried that out - I should do a video on it. Agreed, the Echo Show should have a similar option for smart home control!
I am willing to bet they are using Fire Tablet users to iron out the kinks and test it out before they add it to Echo Shows.
